Guest guest
Humira lowers your resistance to colds and flu. That's why they tell you not to take it if you are suffering with a cold or the flu. It is worth a call to your Doctor to ask him or her. Walt
Guest guest
PA does compromise your immune system. That being said, if he is generally in good health and doesn't get in her face I would think it would be OK. I haven't had a problem unless I am already run down. However, this is something you should talk to your Dr. about for future reference. I do know that when I do get sick it tends to linger and I get it worse than the rest of the family with the compromised immune system. Children are smart. If you tell them that grandpa can't play today but promises to make it up next week, they take it in stride and go with the flow. Happy 4th and good luck. Guest guest
As much as you want to see the relatives-especially cute grandkids, I think it is prudent to err on the side of caution and steer clear until she is well and her home has had a lysol wipe-down for any lingering virus before you visit their house again. Better yet-- have the grandkids over to your house for a movie night and sleepover once they are better. All will be forgiven! The Humira? and any immune suppressant? can knock your resistance down a few pegs.? A cold could? easily turn into pneumonia for instance... - ? Guest guest
I try to stay away from people with colds or other illnesses. If she hasn't had any fever for at least 24 hours, I would probably risk it for a granddaughter! " S. Zorzi " <szorzi_1999@...> > She he avoid being around anyone with colds? Guest guest
Thank you all so much for your replies. Our little grand daughter did come over last night. Her mommy told her not to hug on DadDad today because she has a cold. Our little grand daughter is in remission herself from Leukemia. She knows how important it is not to spread germs because she was the one that was taking the medicine that could put her at risk of getting colds from other people. She was so precious. She kept washing her little hands and getting clean tissues every few minutes. (Bless her little heart) It was hard for my DH not to play with her like he usually does. The good news is..our daughter understands the risks. She was watching to make sure all stayed safe. Thanks again..I hope you all had a nice 4th. We certainly did. Guest guest
As long as your partner is careful and everyone involved practices good hygiene it shouldn't be a problem to have your grandchild over. I am on Humira and work as an infant teacher at a daycare. I asked my doctor if being on Humira would make me switch jobs and he said absolutely not. There are a lot of us on Humira who are around children all day long. I can't call off work every time one of my babies has a cold (otherwise I'd never be there). As long as you are careful and wash your hands it is perfectly safe. Hope this helps!
Guest guest
Thanks, , for your practical advice. We all react differently and I know some on this list have struggled mightily with infections but there are others of us who haven't had a " bug " since we developed this disease. I'm one of the lucky ones who hasn't. My doctor says, PA or not, I have a healthy immune system. Joanna Hoelscher

I can't remember the last time I had a cold or the flu or any other virus, even though my immune system is suppressed, as indicated by a low white cell count. I have never had a flu shot, don't wash my hands fanatically and ride public transportation when I can (lots of airborne viruses there). If it wasn't for PA, RA, Osteo, and psoriasis, I'd be very healthy ... Regards, BeingIrish ************** Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Guest guest
I'm with you on all of those (except the RA - not that one yet, anyway!). Joanna Hoelscher
