Guest guest
Colin - Just one thought - I think that after chemo it is more important to stay well hydrated than to worry about swelling, especially since you say that the swelling gets worse if you drink less - Another thought would be exercise - you could reduce the tendency for pooling if you do a bit of walking, if you feel up to it - Also, massage....... I would doubt that you have suffered kidney damage - my guess would be one of the stupid side effects of chemo, which will eventually resolve itself. I hope so..... Guest guest
Colin - I would check with a good nephrologist (kidney doc). A part of my CLL is kidney involvement. Before I was diagnosed I had ankles the size of my knees which lasix didn't help. Pat **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Guest guest
I have the same issues. My GP has put me on a diuretic. They seem to think the disease has affected my heart! I would go to my GP for this one if I were you.
Guest guest
Are your kidneys functioning properly? Is it fluid or inflammation? Guest guest
When I was first diagnosed I had two major sets of symptoms: apparent achilles tendonitis with a very swollen foot that just wasn't going down after rest and steroids - by mouth and one injection (into the achilles bursa area - YOWZA that was a painful injection!). I also had a lot of pain and stiffness with my neck. Plus overall pain and stiffness - it was taking me 10 minutes just to get out of bed in the morning (carefully roll to one side, s-l-o-w-l-y push up to a half sitting position, pause for a few seconds, s-l-o-w-l-y turn and carefully edge legs off the bed . . . etc.) Anyway, yes, my right foot and ankle in particular were so swollen I couldn't even get my shoes on. Even now, I can't wear any shoes with a back (not great in Western NY winters!) I assume you're on medication of some kind, but this is something that needs to be brought to your doctor's attention as your medication obviously isn't doing much for the inflammation in your feet and ankles. I feel for you - it's no fun, and yes, putting your feet up doesn't do much to help. Staying off your feet may help a little, but it's not always practical! Guest guest
try to get some elastic support stockings hose and put them on ifrst thing in the morning before your legs get too swollen .. these will help your circulation , prevent blood clots and j help with the swelling . they are a little expensive but some insurances will pay for them if your doctor gives you a written prescription . they will make you more comfortable . they are a little difficult to put on and take a bit of learning but you can do it.. i f your legs are too swollen then get ace bandages wraps and ask yor doctor or nurse to teach you how to wrap them properly . its easy to learn and worth the effort' make sure that you take them off every night and put on again in the morning . They are easy to wash and hang to dry when necessary . These are a good thing, cathy from ma .
