Guest guest
I am sure you will get a flood of replies on which meds work. The good news is some do work, the bad news is the response is not the same for any two people. Expect some trial and error as your doc samples to see what works. Since the the only indicator of what works will be your word, you will have to be an active participant. Get ready for the usual initial treatment with steroids to get the swelling down. You will love these as they pain goes away. you will hate them for the side effects. If there was one step I wish I would have skipped it was the steroids. Then focus on getting healthy. Many of of us have been able to keep working, keep leading 90% normal lives for many years, granted with loads of pills. Eat healthy and stay active. Just remember, not every day will be a bad day. cheers Tom
Guest guest
To go along with Tom's message, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Diagnosed about 10 years ago, had some trial/error with meds, have been on Methotrexate and Enbrel for about 5 years now. The only permanent joint damage I had before getting the meds right is a knuckle on my right ring finger which I can't straighten the whole way. Other than that, I'm leading a pretty normal life... 51, working full-time and then some (office job), have done a half-marathon each of the last 3 years, working towards a full one in the fall of 2011. I don't recover from training runs as quickly as I used to. Not sure if it's the PsA or age. Hope you get things under control quickly and get on the road to recovery! Guest guest
I appreciate the responses. Sorry it took so long to reply. I've been having computer issues. I'm not sure if I'm going to be one of the lucky ones or not. I've got it in my back, knees, left wrist, left shoulder and both of my feet. The good news is that there isn't any damage showing up on xrays with the exception of my left wrist. The bad news is that it has hit my left wrist pretty hard. My rheumatologist has put me on methotrexate to start with, and it hasn't been long enough to see if it's going to work(1 week).
Guest guest
Hello there. Do not despair! i was diagnosed over a year ago, was in agony, went onto 3mg LDN in February & am pain-free when not moving. Yes, there's stiffness in hands, knees & feet or if I knock myself or someone shakes hands vigorously etc. but I take no pain relief whereas I took morphine to sleep & Codeine throughout the day. I swim & do physio exercises every day & eat very healthily. Since I gave up bread 2 months ago my finger joints are much less swollen. Good luck mo
