Guest guest
Hi , Sure did enjoy, you really made me laugh! I am always falling into things, walking into corners, tripping on a bit of dust on the floor and saying really dumb things. Can I blame this on AIH? I get aches in my hands too. When I hold a warm kitty this seems to help. Take care! [ ] Hand pain Dear , Glad you enjoyed my missive, you asked about the hand pains they were caused by AIH. Some people have joint pains (arthralgia) apparently this is an indirect effect of chronic hepatits.Usually it consists of mild joint pain mostly in the morning. This is the text book version - I had this type of pain for years and not just in the morning -but it was dismissed as just 'your age' Just before I was diagnosed the pain in my hands was just awful, its still quite irritating especially if I knock a couple of finger joints or even touch against things whew! I think I got somebody elses share as well as my own. The increased Pred is calming it down a bit thank goodness. I am able to do the ironing again without too much hassle -shame I HATE IRONINGGG!!!!! I had a good day yesterday I went out to lunch with my Sister-in-law, today I go out to lunch with Father-in-law -life is one mad round of pleasure. (P.S. does any one else find that they are clumsy I trip over nothing and drop things alot just curious) Love and hugs to everyone W. Guest guest
, You sound exactly like me. My joint pain is worse in my hands. I also have it in my great toe joint on my right foot. They have increased my Prednisone from 2.5 back up to 5 and I feel much better. I too have become very clumsy. This is not something that is normal for me. I totally understand your frustration. Guest guest
Hello everyone its been a while since I wrote, but I read messages everyday. I'm having some really bad problems with pain in my hands. I wake up at night in a lot of pain. I had doctors appointment today but here in Ohio we had bad storms that knocked the power out last night and in some spots it is still out. So I have to call the doctor tomorrow a see if electric is on yet. Would anyone know anything I could do to help the pain. Hope you have a wonderful evening and God Bless. Guest guest
My doctor prescribed voltaren gel for my hands. It's a topical pain gel and it works wonderfully. I would ask the doctor for a sample of it if he has it and see if it works for you since it's expensive.. Celeste
Guest guest
One thing my physical therapist suggested for hand pain is a hot wax treatment, similar to that done in salons and spas. You can buy a hot wax machine at some drug stores and certainly at beauty supply stores. They are not terribly expensive.  Joanna Hoelscher
Guest guest
Hi, I'm having trouble with the hands and wrists again. It's not fun. I went to occupational therapy years ago for them and 2 suggestions. They had two pails, one filled with hot water (shower/bath temp) and one with cold water with ice. They gave me a squeeze ball (stress ball). I had to squeeze the ball in the hot water for 2 minutes, then cold, then hot.... for 20 minutes. It brought down the swelling and helped relieve the pain. Additionally, they used a wax paraffin dip which felt great. You can buy the manicure paraffin dip machine's for about $20-$30 in a Linen's and Things, Walmart type place. I find that heat gives me relief so if you have a heating pad or a microwave heating sack, try it out. Hope you feel better.
Guest guest
Hello ahampton! I am having a lot of problems with my hands too. I have found that running hot water in the bathroom basin and soaking my hands helps a lot.  I also take hot baths for whole body pain and that is wonderful. I know it is bad for my skin but I use lots of lotions to replace any oils washed away by the hot water.  Sharon
Guest guest
If anyone tells you to have surgery to remove inflamed tissue... DON'T DO IT!!!! We did that on my right index knuckle and now when it flares there is NO cushion so the joint hurts worse than before. I have heard that if you go to a tack store (horse equipment) you can get a horse liniment that is supposed to help but you have to be very careful of it. You can use to much and it can have bad side effects. I used to also use a paraffin dip too. The moist heat helped. You can try it out by going to a nail salon and getting a manicure which can also help since you get a hand and wrist massage with it. If it works out for you you can get the paraffin dip appliance for relatively inexpensive. I think under $40. I used to used it two or three times a week when the hand pain first started. They actually started me on it in physical therapy back when we thought it was a muscle problem. Beyond that I take 2 Aleve twice a day for an anti-inflammatory. I just started taking it twice a day and it seems to help Good luck!!! " tweetygodess " <tweetygodess@...>

They are very stiff and I tape them together to help some with pain, I'm a seamstress and its getting hard to cut and sew. Angie

Guest guest
Do you rest your head on your hands under your chin? If so you are probably pinching your ulnar nerve. It runs from your elbow through your arm down to your hands. When I put my hand under my chin for more that a couple of minutes my pinkie and a couple other fingers go numb and tingly. I have a broken screw and also boney overgrowth is taking over the plate and site of fusion. I dread going back to the doc cause there probably isn't anything to do about it.
