Guest guest
I meant to answer peoples questions earlier. A few people have worried about starting MTX and possible side effects. I was exactly the same, and put off taking it for a while. Then I have been lucky, no nausea and stomach problems, I did get some bad itching (I seem prone to this, had the same with sulfasalazine) but it went away when we lowered the MTX dose and didn't come back when we raised it back again! So anyway, don't expect side effects, just be positive. Before taking it my feet were very very painful as well as a number of fingers, making life very miserable. Sitting down for a short while and then being in so much pain when I stood up and tried to disguise my hobbling made it an easy decision to try MTX. And if it doesn't work alone, maybe you need a combination with another drug (my rheumy added Arava). It does take a few weeks to kick in, the only thing I think my rheumy did wrong was not to increase it quickly enough when it didn't have an effect on the arthritis. max
