Guest guest
Was he tested for any coinfections? And was he tested by a lab that specializes in Tick Born Illnesses? I have learned that is very important to avoid false negatives. Most ER's will not understand that. I'm surprised that the hospital could not have called a Neuro on call to see him. My daughter went through something similar but they could not find any bacteria either. She definitely had Meningitis as her pain and swelling traveled through her body and from one joint to another. They never found out what was wrong but after 5 days on an IV in the hospital she recovered on her own. It was strange. Keep ruling things out, sometimes it's the only way to figure it out and good luck. Suzanne On Sep 20, 2010, at 10:31 AM, Kathy Emrick wrote: > My son,17 was diagnosed on Aug. 26. He started with pain in his jaw, stiffness in his neck, fever and a rash behind his knee. The blood test was negative but the rash disappeared about 4 days after starting doxycycl 100mg. After a week of taking this he was sick to his stomach so the dr. switched him to amox. for 2 more weeks. Last Tuesday while still on meds he started with the same symptoms all over again. We went to the ER that night as the neck pain was getting worse. They did a spinal tap and ruled out Lyme meningitis. By Thursday afternoon he started with a headache that is worse when he sits or stands and as of today it has not gotten any better. The dr. wants him to see a neuro and I am having a hard time getting him in anytime soon. I am new to this group and would love to know if people have had similar situations as I am thinking this is all still the Lyme disease. Guest guest
PA is a nightmare for finding docs' I live south west of Scranton. If you're familiar with Knoebels or Bloomsburg that's where we are. We go to Dr. Horowitz in Hyde Park NY. Both my daughter and I were very sick and they helped us tremendously. I just posted a very helpful link under " Western Blot. " you might find it very informative. One important thing to remember is that the diagnosis for Lyme is clinical. The blood tests are only supposed to be used to confirm but never rule out Lyme. The doctor's I've spoken with all say that a six week course of doxy is needed immediately after the initial bite. My daughter's doctors gave her Doryx instead of Doxy because she has a history of severe acid reflux. She was able to tolerate that without any problems. Good Luck to you!
