Guest guest
My boys are on a combo of oral Omnicef which is a cephalosporin, like Rocephin, and minocycline. They tolerate them much better than Zithromax (which their tummies couldn't handle). --Sue On 2/8/2011 9:07 PM, Farhangi wrote: > > Does anyone know anything about the pros and cons? Guest guest
My kids are also on oral zythro and ceftin. My son has been on them for almost a year now, and has made amazing progress. My daughter has been on the combo for about a month now (she was on zythro alone for several months) and already I see a difference. They both started out on zythro alone and worked up slowly to their current Meds and doses. They both responded to the zythro but it wasnt untill they added the ceftin that things really picked up. Their llmd says that the two drugs work together and increase each others strength and potency. Initially I had a lot of concerns about my sons ability to tolerate the oral and asked about the iv option but for us the oral has worked wonders. Both my kids had Nausea and pain before starting Meds, so it was hard to know when they were having stomach issues if it was medicine or lyme related. It took a little tweaking but now neither of them have stomach complaints, which is huge because that was a major problem for my son. Guest guest
Thanks for this. How did you tweak it so they could tolerate the oral zithromax? My worry is that doing internet research turns up things that say oral zithromax is not effective -- notably Dr. Burrascano's protocol! This is one of the many things I hate about Lyme -- all the conflicting medical advice out there. Guest guest
My kids both take zantac on a regular basis our LLmd says that not only will it prevent digestive problems the meds might cause it also has been documented to boost the immune system and is often given to premies in the hospital for just this reason. Using the liquid instead of the over the counter pill form makes it easier for their tummies to digest and also coats the esophagus. They also take a Nystatin mouth swish and I have noticed for them this has been very helpful. Probiotics we are religious about and we push Kefir too. Simple things like breaking the zythro in half gives the stomach a little less work to do and playing around with the time of day and spacing of all the meds/herbs/vitamins through out the week has also helped. I am reluctant to post this because I know that all LLMDs take great risks for our sake and I know that ours is so booked thay are not currently accepting new patients but our WONDERFUL LLMD worked with DR. B closley for years and helped in developing the guidleines so many of us cling to. While I think that he would agree that zythro alone is neither Lyme specific or strong enough alone combined with other meds like ceftin, minincyn, mepron etc. it is quite useful especially for getting at those coinfections. Hope this was helps a bit. Blessings to you and your family. > > > > > > > My kids are also on oral zythro and ceftin. Guest guest
Thank you! Yes, this was extremely helpful. My LLMD also helped develop the ILADS guidelines, so I do trust him, but since it is my child I, ahem, trust but verify :-) Thanks for the tips to make the zithromax more tolerable, I'll use them. (And, yes, my son is on other antibiotics too). Guest guest
Hi , Are your kids being treated for Lyme on that regiment or co-infections? thanks! michelle ________________________________ From: Pavone <pavone1@...> Sent: Wed, February 9, 2011 5:57:16 AM Subject: Re: [ ] oral vs. IV zithromax  My kids are also on oral zythro and ceftin. Guest guest
, it sounds like you are really on top of things. Praying that you see great results from your childs new protocols. Since Lyme " Trust " has taken on a whole new meaning for me as far as Doctors are concerned. I forgot to mention diet in my last post and that has made a real difference also. We were advised to give up all " cow products " due to there inflammatory nature and except for Kefir and the occassional cheat our family has made this change and seen a difference. Of coarse sugar and white flour are also excluded from their diets but here too we make exceptions. The Nystatin helps keep all that in check. Hi , My kids are being treated for both Lyme and coinfections. Although my sons blood tests were more informative( he tested positive for 3) we believe my daughter also has at least 2 coinfections she is dealing with. ,
