Guest guest
HI Natasha, My son was diagnosed with ADHD,OCD, Tourettes, Bipolar, and PDD-NOS prior to his lyme diagnosis .. My son shows no signs of tourettes anymore. He does have ocd , adhd, bipolar and pdd-nos symptoms, although I do not believe he has any of those diagnosis's.  I agree with your theory!!!! Questions: 1. Was your child diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder, Autism, Asperger's ... If so, which one(s)? 2. How was your child diagnosed with Lyme? 3. Did the autism spectrum symptoms subside with treatment? 4. How long was treatment before symptoms subsided? I have a child who was diagnosed bipolar, ADHD, and auditory processing disorder over the years. She turned out to have Lyme and coinfections and after 1 year of treatment she is almost completely off her Ritalin patches. I have a theory that the rise in autism in our country may correlate to the rise in (undiagnosed) Lyme... NAtasha

Guest guest
Natasha, Check out the L.I.A. Foundation at www.lymeinducedautism.com for lots of info on this topic. Both of my children were diagnosed with multiple psych and neurological conditions. My little one became completely autistic-like in a matter of weeks following his tick bite. He also was very much involved in terms of anxiety/OCD, psychosis, and movement disorder symptoms. His personality changed dramatically and he became violent. We got him treatment quickly and the majority of these dissipated over the following few months, though the anxiety stuck and continues to the present (this was 2 1/2 years ago). My oldest was dx with ADHD, non-verbal learning disability, anxiety, tic disorder and had Central Auditory Processing and Sensory Integration Disorders. He's been treated for 2 years now (misdiagnosed for 8) and has NONE of these any longer. Last year was his 1st year in Middle School and he received straight A's all 4 quarters and moved into honors classes. For both of my sons, the Bartonella was viewed by their LLMD as the origin of the neuropsych sx, but research shows that Lyme can also be the culprit. I work in a large school district and see this often with kids. It breaks my heart that this is happening over and over again. Some parents go ahead with my advice to assess for lyme and OTBI's but many don't. They go to their children's pediatricians and are usually told that this is impossible. The children continue to suffer. Families suffer needlessly. Marriages break apart from all the stress. This is a stealth illness on so many levels. It's absolutely shameful that this is happening in the United States! Who could ever imagine? Anyway, keep researching and spreading the word. At some point the truth will be exposed. Guest guest
Natasha, If your doctor is willing to hear the info, Dr. Bransfield did a wonderful presentation on the Lyme/Autism connection at last year's ILADS conference. It's on disk in powerpoint format. I can help you get it if you want it. Quite fabulous. All research-based. Guest guest
My son has been diagnosed with a tic disorder. He meets the criteria for Tourette's now, but we haven't been back to the neuro to get that " official " diagnosis. I figured out it was Lyme before then. He has some mild behavioral issues as well (emotional lability, attention issues, etc.), but nothing officially diagnosed. My son was diagnosed with Lyme after I found info online about Lyme causing motor tics, took him to a new doc and requested testing through IGeneX. He had a history of tick bites 6 months prior to the motor tics starting. We have seen minimal improvement so far, but I'm still hopeful. He's been in treatment about 5 months. Guest guest
My son started to display an eye tick half way through his fifth grade school year. It developed into a head toss as well, Ped. said it was just a tick, like the mildest form of tourettes perhaps brought on by stress. That summer he started complaining of frequent stomache pains and fatigue by November he also had blurry vision, leg pains and weakness, headaches. Ped treated him for a sinus infection with a Z-pack and it all went downhill from there. His eye tick increased till one night it was constant. Once we finally figured out he had Lyme Disease months later and started treatment the eye/head tick was the first symptom to go and hasn't returned despite all of the stressful circumstances he has seen through out his long recovery.
