Guest guest
my daughter tested positive for erlichia. It basically is similar to LYme in the symptoms -- just makes them worse. Yuck. I will try to find a link though. Natasha From: le Handy <kndplus2@...> Subject: [ ] 9yr. old son dx of erlichia " Lyme Treatment " <Lyme Treatment > Date: Wednesday, January 6, 2010, 11:26 AM  hi all, my son just turned 9 and has had lots of symptoms the last 3 or so years. he tested for lyme and coinfections with igenex and just got the results that he is positive for erlichia and highly suspicous for lyme. anyone else have children that tested for erlichia? i don't know anything about it and find little on the internet. thanks, danielle

Guest guest
Oh boy, did she ever. She tested positive for Lyme, Erlichia, Bartonella and Babesia. Royal flush! That's all they tested her for -- for all we know she has mycoplasma and bubonic plague, lol. She is in treatment with a great LLMD now. We love him. He has been targeting the Bart symptoms because they were the most problematic, and in the last month has blasted the Lyme. It has made her hurt a lot, but her brain seems to be functioning better (she was diagnosed with ADHD, auditory processing disorder and bipolar before we got the Lyme dx). Her doctor says that the Lyme will hit the joints on its way out -- that is a good sign that it is mobilizing out of her brain. Ack! He also said kids who are still growing have a great chance of completely outgrowing all this stuff. As far as erlichia info, I don't know a lot. I DO know there are two forms, monocytic and granulocytic. My daughter has the former. I also know that left untreated it *can* (but doesn't always) kill because it attacks the spleen. It can also be really mild. Here is a little synopsis I found somewhere: Ehrlichiosis is a bacterial infection that invades and infects the white blood cells. There are two types of Ehrlichiosis: Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME) and Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE). Symptoms include malaise, fever, sweating, nausea, dry cough, headache, anemia, muscle aches and pain. First line treatment is most often Doxycycline, Minocycline and/or Rifampin. but Cipro, Levaquin, Biaxin and Azithromycin have shown in some cases to be effective. My daughter (who is 11 1/2 by the way) was on Doxy before and it was too hard on her body and not esp effective, and also on Levaquin which is not appropriate for kids. That was when we switched doctors. She is now on Rifampin and Azithromycin and we see progress. Erlichia is one that people often don't talk about. It does seem to have less on the internet about it, but hopefully this information will help a bit. Sorry for your son's trouble but glad of the diagnoses and beginning of treatment. People DO get better if treated!
