My rheumy told me to take folic acid every day including the day I take the MTX.

It seems there is a bit of professional difference on this subject amongst the

rheumy's, however the paperwork that came with the folic acid clearly states

that it is used to prevent anemia caused by certain drug therapies (i.e.:

chemotherapy drugs and some others). MTX can effect the production of red blood

cells by inhibiting the bodies production of folic acid that is why we take it.

You can not overdose on folic acid so nothing really to worry about.

Patty: I don't know the answer (and didn't ask - unlike me, actually) but my

rheumy also told me to skip the folic acid on the day I took my MTX.

I was told that the folic acid may interfere with the MTX, so that I should not

take it on the day of MTX administration, but to take it every other day.

I've heard that, too. My rheumatologist says to take it every day, so I do.

I have been on that stuff (MTX)for 16 years this week, started it 04/18/94, when

I was 34 years old. It was a real turning point in my life.
