Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I am new to this group. Looking for information. My son was a very healthy 26 year old until 1 1/2 months ago. Started with severe knee pain and swelling and stiffness in both knees. Went to urgent care and was told he has bursitis and to take Ibuprofen and it should be better in a couple of weeks. It did not get better so went to Orthopedic specialist because he then developed swollen toe that looks like a sausage and painful, also developed rash and lost all of the taste buds on his tongue and started developed muscle weekness in both legs. MRI on knees said quadracept tendonitis both legs, Torn miniscus both knees, Bakers cist in one knee. Toe MRI said inflammation and possible infection. Xrays were negative for any bone abnormalities. Initial blood work WBC 11.1, RBC 4.3, RBC sed rate 47, C reactive protein 5.8, Rheumatoid factor 24. lyme-negative, ANA-negative. The Orthopedic doctor then referred him to a rheumatologist but since he started developing other symptoms we got him into a general internist because we thought it was an infection. Now he is losing his toe nails and looks like he may start losing one of his fingernails and has started to have eye involvement with scabbing around both eyelids. Regular doctor did more blood tests and put him on an antibiotic to see if an infection was causing all of his symptoms. Then said to come back in a month if he wasn't better. He is now in severe pain so on went to ER Friday night and doctors said they think he has some type of arthritis and their guess is psoriatic arthritis since it fits all of his symptoms. My son has an initial appointment with a rheumatologist this week. We are hoping for answers. He can barely walk and is only making it through the day because of strong pain meds and Ibuprofen for the pain. Has anyone else had or has seen an initial onset of symptoms like this without having any previous history of being ill or of having psoriasis or arthritis? Is this common to have such a sudden and severe onset of the disease? I am just a very worried mom and trying to find out as much information as possible in order to help my son.
