Conceded - but the western world has an overload of copper - in our water pipes, in our cooking utensils and even copper bracelets that are so popular. The important thing here is that copper is *antagonistic* to zinc - and a vast proportion of the western world has a *deficiency* in zinc. It is the most common nutritional deficiency along with magnesium. We need to increase zinc in our diets as it is vital to good immune function. Guest guest
A friend once told me that the way to be organized is to make a list up every morning of what you need to do that day. The number one item on the list should always be - eat chocolate. That way, no matter what happens, you will always get at least ONE thing done and won't feel like you are not accomplishing anything! :-) -----Original Message----- From: jnoelsagacious [mailto:jnoelsagacious@...] Cindi Chocolate isn't a vice is the base of a very important food group for mental health. Guest guest
Just a word on chocolate. It is full of trans fatty acids and saturated fats. It interferes with the Essential Fatty Acids metabolism. These support the prostaglandins ( at least 300 of them) and directly the immune system..the cytokines and the leukotrienes. the Omegas also make the red blood cells soft and pliable so they do not clump -stroke risk! Because they increase the flexibilty of the cells, they can get into the little capillairies where oxygen exchange takes place i.e. in the brain and kungs. Chocolate would reverse this. If I have chocolate it is on RARE occasions! If you want to improve your mental health pay attention to the balance of Omega 3 to Omeag 6. Therein lies the secret. Best regards, RE: Chocolate A friend once told me that the way to be organized is to make a list up every morning of what you need to do that day. Guest guest
Hmm, I don't really get the chocolate connection. Every time I eat chocolate I feel like I really need a good dose of calendula and burdock root tea. I have no idea why but it feels like I'm polluting my body. Speaking if polluting, I began to have eczema at 6 months, developed asthma and now I struggle with depression (which runs in my fam), a low metabolism, I've often thought they're connected. Any other sources (books, websites, etc. )anyone can think of for cleaning up and strengthening these weaknesses? You have eczema and it gets suppressed with drugs (usually steroid creams). The body has already found the least threatening way to decentralize the disturbance in the eczema (often fro vaccines). So it finds another way to decentralize (dissipate) and that is asthma. That gets suppressed with drugs and then you develop worse symptoms and tdhat is depression! This is a VERY common chain. The only way to reverse this in my opinion and my experience is to seek quality homeopathic treatment to go back through those layers of disturbance. Guest guest
<PRE>Thanks I have found some for a few candy bars but I would like to limit myself to an occasional piece of great chocolate---like Godiva or Ghiardeli. I love the good stuff. Maybe a truffle once in a while. I probably will still do it but I would feel much better if I could list it on my food sheet with exchanges Peace Pat
Guest guest
> <PRE>Hi i am really interested in the choco bars too. I am using the diabetic > exchange diet and I can't find an exchange for chocolate on it. I My bag of mini-bars says 8 pieces = 1 serving = 1 bread and 2 fat exchanges. Most foods that are specifically aimed at diabetics will have the exchange rate right on it. A few years back, before the onslaught of Atkins, most foods out there had exchange rates - now they push carb content. > wonder---does your food movers have a way of counting chocolate? It's mentioned in Limited Extras (30 calories or less) 12 chocolate chips 1 kiss fat free hot chocolate from a mix 1 tablespoon light chocolate syrup. The exchange book (a must-have for anyone on any exchange program) I have, Exchanges for All Occasions, lists 1 cup of chocolate milk as 2 other carbs & 1 fat, sugar-free hot cocoa mix as 1/2 other carb, sugar-free pudding (all flavors) as 2 other carb and 1 fat, made with skim milk as just 1 other carb, but no mention of any chocolate candy at all. I just tried looking in Mastercook for the exchange for milk chocolate, and 4 ounces of milk chocolate would be 1 fat and 1/2 other carb - looks too low to me, especially with one Hershey Bar having 230 calories and 25 grams of carbs! Guest guest
Mic, Chocolate and sugar cravings can be helped alot by chromium and vanadium...Have you looked into those? The link about mold that I posted earlier also addresses allergies, etc., especially the hormone issue, because I have had years of PMS/PMDD which get worse without exercise and good habits. See, part of my problem is overcoming a self-defeating/hurtful will towards myself. I know what I need to do, I do it, I begin to get well and get better, I sabotage myself because I have not yet found why something I've done in my life things I should be well and happy like I was years earlier.. Anyway, here is a link with information on both, relating to insulin levels, which really cause the cravings. I hope it helps. http://www.cspinet.org/nah/05_01/ > Yes, but also consider hormones. Guest guest
Yup, I agree. Craving chocolate has got to be a mineral deficiency. I understand that magnesium could be the culprit. Guest guest
> It might have been better to savor a small portion of chocolate rather than > waste it by mixing it in yogurt. I know me and I would have binged and ate the whole thing if I started out eating just a little bit of it. It was much easier for me to mix it in with the yogurt where it wasn't as good so I wouldn't binge on it. What about fudgesicles? The WW brand > used to be delicious. Sue got me hooked on the Fifty/50 brand chocolate. > The dark chocolate bars are sugar free. Again.. this is not something I had on my plan, and therefore it is not in my freezer. I was planning on the yogurt and was trying to make it a little more tolerable. I wouldn't have eaten it otherwise. I've seen the fifty/50 brand, but I've never looked at the calories in them, or how they would fit into my plan. I just try to avoid chocolate candy all together. I was so proud of myself the ohter night when I went to the store all by myself and I passed up the chocolate by the register. It took alot of will power to do that! > grocery store. Guest guest
Sorry, I'm in california... It's kind of an exotic health food store, meaning that most of their foods are without preservatives and fake flavorings and they buy a fair amount of foods from other countries. Guest guest
No solutions, just sympathy. I have the same problem with dark chocolate chips. I mix them with raisins, pumpkin seeds and walnut to keep myself from eating the whole bag, but reduction has been my only strategy so far. I believe it's an emotional addiction for me, not a physical one, except maybe the caffiene. But I've beaten caffiene in the past quite easily (with the help of aspirin for a few days). As a breastfeeding mama, I would argue that all foods have emotional attachments and it starts at birth. In fact, food is your primary perception of expression of love when you are a newborn. So I think that to cure this addiction, we are going to have to look at our emotional rather than physical bodies. (Assuming, of course, that we are already eating well and exercising appropriately.) I've just started looking at www.imunics.org as a sprititual/emotional addition to my physical efforts to improve my health and life. Yes, I know that foods and exercise can create different emotional responses all on their own - look at drugs. I think we need to look carefully at the reverse effect of spirit and emotion on our physical being as well. My first attempts at immunics (also called the yoga of immunity) absolutlely nailed a stomach virus right in it's tracks. The rest of my family was puking, and I, being the Mom, was cleaning up the whole mess. I killed the viruses that I could feel invading my body with sheer mental power, although I give my good diet and careful hygene credit for putting my physical body in a position to cooperate with my mind in this effort. Warning: immunics looks and sounds really goofy but for some odd reason, it works. Alright, I'm ranting on a tangent here. If you find anything that works for the chocolate addiction, please share it. I let you know if I make any progress with my emotional approach. -Robin > What's the deal with chocolate?? A lot of the products used to replace it are avoids.>> Many people have had success creating their own non-avoid chocolate by melting unsweetened chocolate and adding vegetable glycerin as a sweetener which is ok for all O's. Good luck! Dianne in L.A. fellow chocoholic and O nonnie
Guest guest
Robin, good advice, assuming I'm wanting to beat the " chocolate addiction " . On the contrary, I do want to indulge once in a while, symptoms be damned. LOL. I mean, live is short and we can't just get too obsessed with having to do everything right. Dr. D. even admitted to being only 80-95% compliant. You can do that, if you don't have serious health concerns, of course. Here I am speaking for myself. For everyone else , especially, if you're just starting out, it's better to go the whole enchilada till you feel better. FWIW Emmi, (one of the oldtimers on BTD) Re: chocolate No solutions, just sympathy.
