Hello -

I was on Rifampin for about two months......it did nothing for me.....it either

will work or it will not........and you will know....so I had to switch to

Tindamax and that helps me so much.  I assume the reason he is having you start

with half a dose is because of the herx.....everyone reacts different with

herx's.......I feel for you with all the meds and having to take them at

different times......it all gets tiring but writing it all down on paper so you

know when to take what helps.

good luck and hope you find healing yourself!!  It is so hard when mom is so

ill

also!!  But then also helps us in a way because when our children tell us what

they are feeling we don't ignore or think they are lying........breaks my heart

that I assume so many kids might be sick with this and doctors and parents are

blowing them off thinking they just do not want to go to school or what not.

Hang in there!!  Diane (WI)

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if I could ask if anyone has experience with Rifampin. I know

this is a group to discuss our children but many of us Moms are also dealing

with Lyme. My doctor wants to switch me to Rifampin half dose for a month and

increase to full dose after the 1st month. Wondering what to expect and how in

the world am I going to fit in my supplements when I have to take this 2 hrs

after dinner plus Minocycline at Breakfast and Dinner.

i have been on rifampin for about 6 months and i did not herx from it but i

am a lot better overall. i did not respond well to tindamax, it increased my

migraines. i joined the group californialyme and it has been an

invaluable source of info and support if you would like it for yourself.

Hi,

My son has ben on rifampin for over a year now(age 9)

He was taking it like you metioned, two hours after a meal or an hour before,

than his doctor said to just give it to him with his breakfast in the morning

and at bedtime.

He hasn't had any problems, except some occasional watery diarrhea with it.

Take care

Judy

Hi,

My daughter could not tolerate it. I had to take her off after less than a week.

My son (12) was also on it for more than a yr w/ no problems.  The only problem

that occured was when we stopped it too soon (10mths).  He sprialed down

horribly and it took several months for him to come back up.  He's now off it

is

it taking Cipro for the Bart.

The first time my daughter took rifampin she got very fatigued, so they

put her on something else. The second time she got extremely nausous

within 5-10 min. of taking it, and had some other dramatic effect, which

escapes me now. It seems it was some kind of pain in her chest or arm,

but I could be mistaken. It was enough to scare us and have us call the

doctor immediately and they took her off it and decided to not try it again.

I know many who have used this drug with great success and am sorry it

did not help my daughter.
