Guest guest
I don't have experience with it and children, but I did run across some Finnish studies where they used it. I don't think it was with kids, but I can doublecheck for you if you'd like. I asked my doctor about putting my son on it, and he said he only uses it with amoxycillin (and my son's not on amox.). So if that's any comfort, my doctor uses it in the same way. I'll have a look at the abstracts (I printed them out) and if they are pediatric I'll post the link. Guest guest
OK, as I suspected the studies did not involve children. The name of the first article is " Comparison of oral cefixime and intravenous ceftriaxone followed by oral amoxicillin in disseminated Lyme borreliosis " published in *Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis* in 1998. I found it on: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9865985?dopt=Citation The second article is titled " Treatment of Late Lyme Borreliosis " in *J Infect* 1994 Nov 29(3)255-61. www.ncbi.nlm.nig.gov/pubmed/7884218?dopt=Citation. In the studies they used and compared several different kinds of antibiotics, but in both studies, they combined the amoxycillin with the probenecid. My two cents (which I realize you haven't asked for) is that you have to weigh the risks of taking the amox. and the probenicid vs. the risks of taking a much higher dose of amox w/o the probenicid. I suspect there are risks to both courses of action. Have you done a search for pediatric use of probenicid? If you trust your doctor, I would follow her advice. I had my 11 year old put on actigall for the short time he was on rocephin. That is also a med that is not indicated/studied with children, but I felt the risks of developing gall bladder complications without it outweighed the risk of the actigall, which is routinely used in adults on rocephin. The visiting nurse who changes my son's dressing is also a paramedic and he said the rule for paramedics in deciding if it was OK to give adult drugs to kids was: are they over 10? over 5' tall? If the answer is yes, you can treat them like an adult. Best of luck with your daughters -- On Thu, Feb 3, 2011 at 6:36 PM, Tricia Soderstrom <TriciaSod@...>wrote: > > > Thank you so much . Guest guest
Thank you so much . I agree with you! I like my doctor but I haven't been able to trust any doctor 100% especially when it comes to my children. I'm going to do some research online. I just wondered if anyone on this wonderful forum had any experience with it. You guys are so supportive and helpful!! * ´¨) ¸.• ´¸.•* ´¨)¸. •*¨) (¸.•´ (¸ ;. •´ Tricia ________________________________ From: Farhangi <lesliefarhangi@...> Sent: Thu, February 3, 2011 7:35:17 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Amoxicillin and Probenecid OK, as I suspected the studies did not involve children.
