Guest guest
Currently, my daughter is receiving her antibiotics via a child psychiatrist here in Canada -- which is good because there are zero costs involved for her meds or her appointments, thanks to Canadian medical. However, the downside is that we don't have an LLMD on her case -- the child psych is willing to consult, if we can find someone. We're more or less following one of the protocols suggested by our previous US LLND (who worked with Dr. J. in CT and follows his treatment plans) and that were also supported by a retired Canadian Lyme specialist, who has given the child psych some help. My daughter is on Ceftin twice a day (2 teaspoons of the suspension or 250 mg per dose) and on Amoxicillin capsules 250 mg twice a day. (She's also pulsing tinidazole but I know she is getting adequate dosing there -- doing two weeks on, one week off and managing quite well with that). When she was seeing her US LLND, her amoxi was 400 mg twice a day, so nearly double the dose. We have plenty of extra amoxi and during her 'rest' week off of the tini I added a third capsule of the amoxi -- which would bring her total dosage closer to what her LLND had her on just as an experiment, and it was a great week for her with some marked decreases in some of her cognitive symptoms. Which leads me to wonder if her current Amoxi dose, while probably stopping things from progressing, isn't really killing enough of the Bb or penetrating the blood brain barrier adequately. (My daughter's remaining issues are neurolyme related at this point.) She weighs about 48 pounds and is almost 8 years old -- am curious what typical dosing is happening for other kiddos, with oral amoxi. I do think that we are licking her relapse quite well (she was off all abx for six months, then things began to rear up again) but thinking that we might want to push a bit harder with the amoxi -- she's responding quite well overall, but still has some symptoms that are sticking with her. We're also heading off for a month of travel and it would be great to have her feeling as good as possible during that time.
