Well, I am in the process of getting pre-approval for Humira now. Since it

blocks the same thing maybe it won't be to bad of a change. In a perfect world

we would get the medical treatments we need no matter the cost. I have been

meaning to ask, after I have Remicade my hips and thighs ache. I've tried

sitting in different positions and so on. This last one was almost unbearable,

had to double pain meds and use a heating pad. Maybe it is a good thing it was

my last one. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Eileen

Oh Eileen! I am nervous for you! So sorry you are losing your

grant! Have you tried a grant with one of the other biologic

providers? I am in the process of getting approval and help with

the copay for Enbrel. I hope that I can get the help, otherwise I

will have to stay on the MTX alone. I have three young grandsons

and have to be around them alot and they are always sick...so

Remicade is not a choice my doctor wants to make...yet. If I get to

where I cannot function at all and can't get help with the Enbrel I

may have to try the Remicade.

Eileen:  medicare (and your medicare supplement) will cover the biologics but

you're right - there is a hefty cost.  Enbrel costs me about $400 for the first

month or two of the year - depending on what other drugs I have to get during

that period.  Then I hit the donut hole and for about two months I have to pay

the full $1400 each month.  But then, it goes down to $70/month for the rest of

the year. I was initially told that Remicade was cheaper because it typically

was administered in a hospital setting, though now I understand some doctors

offices are doing it.  I have tried to get an answer from Angen as to why they

will not provide assistance to Medicare patients and they told me Medicare

wouldn't allow it.  But when I called the Medicare office in D.C., they said

they had no such rule.  So, I don't know what the real story is; all I know is

that if you have Medicare you're not eligible for mfg assistance - at least from

Amgen.
