Hi !

Glad to hear that you finally got some answers about

your hip! Dr Lalit Puri is doing my replacement 6/28

at Northwestern. Which surgeon are you going to see?

My rheumy has said that an occasional drink (1 or so a

month or less) wouldn't hurt, but since I am on the

top dose of oral Methotrexate (25 mg) I choose to

abstain completely. It's no hardship for me, as A) I

don't really care for the taste of most alcoholic

beverages anyway, B) I have a cousin who ended up with

end-stage liver and kidney failure from excessive

drinking. He was on dialysis for quite some time, but

finally, after having been sober for several years,

received a cadaver kidney and liver transplant. He is

doing well physically now, but his life (social,

emotional, everyday living, you name it) has just been

so ruined by all the medical bills and stuff. I just

never wanted to take the risk of ending up like that.

(I have enough medical bills as it is now.) C) my dh

can't drink AT ALL because his seizure medications, in

combination with alcohol are dangerous. They can cause

Antabuse-type reactions, and not only that, if his

mental status is altered due to drinking, how would I

ever know if it were that or a seizure or drug

reaction? So since he can't drink, I don't. (Which

actually means, I haven't had a drink AT ALL in 8

years, not just 4, LOL.) But like I said, the rheumy

said it would be OK; it's just my choice not to.

Take care and good luck with the ortho appointment!
