Thank you for your replies!

I feel better knowing my son is not the only child on so much medication. Not

that I wish this on anyone, It just seems like so much!

Hi Judy,

My 11 year old daughter is on rifampin and zithromax. Dr. J wants her to start

Tindamax 2 days/week (twice daily), like your son. We will start soon, I have

the prescription filled, but she just started an herbal protocol and I wanted

her body to adjust (?) before adding yet another med.

You have to be very careful about alcohol ingestion, even a small amount in otc

cold remedies or herbal tinctures for example can cause a bad reaction. Other

than that, from what I've read, it seems relatively well tolerated.

I'll keep you posted when she starts.

Hi,

Is anyone's child here on three meds for lyme?My son is on Zithromax, Rifampin

and now the doctor just prescribed Tindamax.I'm really concerned because he is

also on two other meds for his ocd and tics.He said to just give him the

tindamax on weekends only.

Any input?

Hi Everyone,

My 9 yr old son has been on tindamax for 2 months now(weekends only) on top of

the zithromax and rifampin, which he has been on for 15 months. He is telling me

that everyday he feels like he is in a dream that he cannot wake up from (

brainfog?) He cannot remember anything anyone says to him. It is taking him

literally 4 hours to do three homework assignments and his emotions are that of

a 2 year old. His ocd and separation aniety  is horrendous. Any thoughts  on

this???

I don't know if I should put him back on the antipsychotics because his ocd " bad

thoughts "  is just constant.

thanks

My daughter is currently on tinidazole(tindamax) two weeks on, one week off and

it is working quite differently for her right now (clearing up cognitive issues

and her 'good' weeks are when she goes back on it). However, when she first

started it, she could barely cope with a few days of it at a time -- got

incredibly brain foggy and seemed to be going into quite a severe relapse. Also

-- every few weeks when she was on it, she would have some bizarre 'new' symptom

-- for a while she got quite paranoid, another round it was OCD sorts of

obsessive thoughts, another time it was something that seemed a bit like

Tourette's (repeated growling and words). My theory is that the tini breaks up

cyst forms in specific brain areas and caused some of those reactions. It was

quite a gradual process, but eventually she could tolerate it for longer and

after going off treatment for about six months, when she went back on it in the

summer it was like a miracle drug. Interestingly, my daughter was also on the

zithro/rifampin combo when she began Tini and that's when she seemed to be

relapsing -- our Lyme doc then switched her to meds that more specifically

target the Lyme (rather than Bart) and on amoxi and ceftin she was a new kid

almost immediately.

Hello, my children have not taken Tindamax but our LLMD has recommended Bolouke

for a cyst buster. Perhaps that could be an alternative for your children. My

daughter has been on Zythro for several months and has struggled with it making

her feel " irritable and easily frustrated. "  We recently increased her dose and

added ceftin and she has been even more irritable and moody. Dr. says that the

combinations increase the potency and strengths of each med.

Hi Judy,

My daughter who is now 10 was on Tindamax as well. We had to take her off

because her ocd became intolerable and she said she just felt like she was going

crazy. She would run through the house screaming and holding her head and

saying she thought she was going to die. It was a horrific experience. We also

could not get through ANY school work and everything was the biggest deal.

After going off the Tindamax she began to feel more normal and now she is doing

very well but at some point we'll need to address the cyst buster issue and I'm

not sure what we'll do.

Did your dd have ocd symptoms before the tindamax?

I don't know what to do with my son. It's like he is in a constant state of

HI ,

My son's lyme doctor prescribed the tindamax to break up the cysts (as you

mentioned)What I'm confused about though, is when my son went for an MRI, no

cysts showed up on his brain. I'm really confused. wouldn't they have shown up?

Judy, yes she did have OCD symptoms before the Tindamax. But when she went on

it the ocd and panic attacks were so intense. She said she literally felt like

she was going crazy. She cried and begged me to take her off the medicine. I

had never experienced anything like that and I was afraid. I didn't give her

anymore and on that Monday called her doctor first thing. We agreed to take her

off. Trust your instincts. You know your child! I would never let any doctor

put my daughter back on that med. They'll just have to find an alternative.

Good luck to you!

Judy, I may be wrong but I believe your lyme dr was probably talking about the

spirochettes in their cyst form.  An MRI wouldn't show these cysts.

best wishes,

We're waiting for a repeat MRI, but the cyst forms are very tiny -- would be

like trying to see Bb bacteria in blood, as they are another bacterial form, so

unlikely to show on an MRI. What the MRI will show is scarring and lesions -- if

they are present, but they won't show anything at the more microscopic level.

And yes, we are very lucky that my girl is doing as well as she is, especially

with going undiagnosed for a year and getting to the level of disability that

was present before treatment began.

My son is the same-- just left w/ psych issues, mainly anxiety in certain school

situation-- his perception of a new, " hard " teacher send him into a tailspin.

Like a phobia.  I've been having to basically home school him in 8th grade

science all year because he just couldn't make it into the class after being in

there for a week.

HI Judy,

I really don't know much about the scans since my sons and I have not had any. I

know others who have had them though. What I understand is that it can show

lesions. I'm not positive but I think that might be some damage, but I'm pretty

sure that the lesions can improve. And, I don't think there have to be lesions

if you have lyme. Probably like everything else, it can be individual.

I'm looking back at my notes from when my son (12) took Tindamax. Five days

after starting he developed a small bullseye rash on his inner thigh. I

couldn't believe it! I took a photo and my dr confirmed it. She said the rash

can emerge anytime during treatment. I was so excited to see it...This was our

first confirmation of lyme since his WB was negative although tested + for Bart.

He was on it for 6 wks and everything else was fine.

In looking back at when I took Tindamax, lots of stuff got stirred-up; heart

palps, anxiety, achy, strange feelings, fatigue, balance, tingling, feeling hot,

rapid heartbeat, etc, but pressure cleared in my head. I think Tindamax is a

hard-hitter. It looks like I took it for 4 mths and during those months I had a

lot of symptoms.

Do you think your son is herxing? Is it psych issues that have gotten worse?

For me, personally and as a mom, those are the WORST to deal with. Not from

Tindamax but my son and I have had the " I think I'm going crazy feeling. " Are

you trying all the detox stuff? Is your dr aware of his reaction?

I'm so sorry.

Hi Elaine,

Thank you for sharing. I don't know what the detox treatment is. My son's psych

symptoms are awful. He says he feels like his head and ears are all plugged up

and in a constant state of panic saying he can't tell if he is awake or in a

dream, ans askingif he is going to die.(he only takes the tindamax on weekends)

The doctor said he wants him to take this, regardless of his symptoms. We tried

flagyl and he had the same effect.

He started xanax yesterday and it is doing nothing.

Hugs

I couldn't

believe it! I took a photo and my dr confirmed it. She said the rash can emerge

anytime during treatment. I was so excited to see it...This was our first

confirmation of lyme since his WB was negative although tested + for Bart. He

was on it for 6 wks and everything else was fine.
