Guest guest
My details of the SI joint fusion. First it was done in Missoula, Montana by Dr. Beck (now his colleague, Dr. Mack, does them as well). Dr. Beck basically invented the surgery out of necessity. He had several patients with chronic SI joint pain and the old surgery was apparently more brutal than the disease. Anyway, he put a threaded mesh cage in the middle of each SI joint. The cage is about the size of my index finger, and it is placed vertically in the joint. Anyway, there is a bone growth stimulator paste that they pack inside the mesh cages and then basically just pound them into the middle of the joint. Over time, the bone growth paste makes the bone start to grow through the mesh cage which then permanently fuses the joint. In the meantime while bone is waiting to grow, the metal holds the joint solid. Anyway, I woke up in the recovery room in less pain then I went to sleep in. It has been an absolute miracle for me. I was the second one done. They did a study on the first 5 of us and everyone overwhelmingly stated it was a miracle. Anyway, my surgeon took pictures of my back and has since presented it at conferences. Rae
