Guest guest
The good news is my daughter has been feeling lousy with allergies/sinus problems for 2 weeks & is not flat on her back!!! For the first time in years, she's dragging along like anyone else. Many of her symptoms have improved or resolved. I've recently mentioned other issues- PCOS, cholesterol, low wbc - so she still isn't totally well. There has been no dramatic recovery, but over time she has gradually gotten much better. After missing 3 years of school she is thinking of returning this summer or fall. We are working on a plan now. Initially, her LLMD told us he thought she would need 2-3 years of treatment, a outside chance of 4-5 years. She is right on track -about 2.5 years into abx treatment. I know about treating until symptoms have been resolved for a couple months, but my question is how well is well? I am thrilled (still cautious about setbacks) that she is becoming more functional, but she still has quite a few symptoms. They just aren't as extreme or disabling as before, but there are still quite a few. I am grateful for this much recovery. Is it realistic to hope for much more? The lyme triggered her narcolepsy, which is a life-long condition, so we don't expect that to disappear. It has become more treatable as the lyme got better. When if ever is it safe to stop treatment? How well do the kids who recover recover? Sue
Guest guest
Thanks Jeanette, It is encouraging to hear about your daughter. My daughter also used to be a great student, played piano, drums & sang as well as sports. Now I'll be thrilled if she can just make it to school on a regular basis & do ok. Your story is hopeful- great to hear about recovery, but confirming that not everything resolves. These groups are so helpful, but also discouraging, realizing how many people just keep struggling.
