Guest guest
Debbie, First, welcome to the group. Thanks so much for your post. I also would rather not take MTX but can't really function too well without it. I also did some searching and found mixed results as to the actual increased risk of cancer with MTX. It seems to be the chicken/egg deal sometimes. It is a real concern to me as my father had lymphoma. On the Enbrel issue. I took it for a little over a year and it worked wonders for me. It was like I didn't even have PsA. Unfortunately, I experienced progressive numbness on one side of my body with some other not too pleasant neuro side effects. I had an MRI of the brain done and two lesions similar to MS lesions were found. This was my first MRI so we don't know if they were there prior to use of Enbrel. I did not have any more neuro symptoms after stopping the Enbrel. Needless to say I will never be taking a biologic again. I am allergic to sulfa drugs and the rest I have tried have not been effective. Hence, I am left with the MTX alternative. I am going to investigate the low dose antibiotic therapy as I would like to have some sort of backup plan if I need get off the MTX. Have you done any research on the antibiotic therapy? McPherson is the MD that originally promoted it. Again, welcome. God bless, Patty
