Guest guest
Hi Kim -- For those of us who are not nearby (California, in my case) what can we do? This outrageous behavior just never seems to end! Can't the State AG do something about this as part of the antitrust issue he was dealing with> Governor? I mean, obviously the state medical board can keep doing this indefinitely until they either run him would of business or kill Dr. , either outcome obscene. Let us know how to help from afar. Meanwhile, would a letter writing campaign to the Governor, who is the head of the CT Executive Branch, be helpful? Attend rally to support Dr. R. . 2. Attend CT medical board hearing WHEN: RALLY- Tuesday, February 16 at 11:00 AM HEARING- Following the Rally which is currently scheduled for 1:30 PM the same day* WHERE: RALLY- Outside the CT Department of Public Health, 410 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT HEARING: Connecticut Department of Public Health, 410 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT (Room to be announced) Note: The outdoor RALLY will be held at 11:00 AM, even if the DPH cancels or reschedules the hearing. The Connecticut Medical Examining Board hearing is currently scheduled for 1:30 PM on February 16, 2010, the same day as the RALLY. The DPH might change the hearing date/time BUT THE RALLY WILL STILL HAPPEN. We will all meet at 11:00 AM at the DPH Building for the rally. If the hearing goes as on scheduled, we will proceed to the hearing after the rally. History As you know, Dr. has already faced medical board charges and had sanctions and a fine levied against him. The actions of the Connecticut Department of Public Health against him have continued for almost 5 years. New Charges Dr. had a second set of charges lodged against him, and now the hearing to recommend additional sanctions will be held in front of the entire Medical Examining Board. The Board will be voting on the recommendations of the current three-member panel that has been hearing the second set of charges. Attorneys for Dr. and for the CT Department of Public Health will present their oral arguments regarding these recommendations. New Sanctions The panel is NOT recommending that Dr. ' license be revoked. They are, however, recommending other sanctions which are of tremendous concern: · A second $10,000 fine (the $10,000 fine levied in the first case has been " suspended, " pending the outcome of the appeal); · Four years of supervised probation; · Supervision conducted by a monitor hired at Dr. ' expense. The current monitor, put in place as a result of the previous charges against Dr. , is responsible for having now made more than 5 new complaints against him. Action to take We need a strong show of support for the man who has cared for so many of our children, when other pediatricians have been unable or unwilling to provide proper diagnosis and treatment for them. Dr. requests that you please try to attend the upcoming hearing, and bring as many people with you as you can! Consequences if Dr. loses ability to treat · Further jeopardize all Lyme literate physicians' ability to treat by casting a chill on treatment climate. · Prevent patients of all ages from receiving appropriate diagnosis and treatment. · Negatively impact the future of so many children who depend on Dr. for appropriate care. The Lyme community needs to take a united stand to preserve the rights of doctors to treat and patients to be treated. Come and be counted! Guest guest
I agree. I tried to email a complaint to the CT medical board to " leave Dr. alone " and there really isn't a good email to use. Maybe their Senators or Governor would be better to contact. Guest guest
Suzanne and Natasha, Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately many pleas to leave Dr. J alone seem to have fallen on deaf ears as far as those in the powerful, decision-making positions. It seems incomprehensible that any of this could be happening but the reality is that it is. Rather than focus on that which we cannot control, we need to focus our efforts on that which we can. Whether it's about Dr. J or some other issue Lyme - related, we in this unfortunate community need to continue to raise awareness, advocate for ourselves, and be stronger and more unified than the opposition. We may do this by writing letters, making phone calls to gov't officials, strengthening relationships with those in key positions, and by refusing to be bullied and harassed by naysayers. Wherever you are in the country, you may unite with other fellow Lymies and take action. My dream for the not-to-distant future is that by doing so, we will out number the opposition and the truth about all of this will prevail. This will only happen with action. As parents of sick children we are capable of so much collectively. We just need to organize and get moving. Here in RI we are doing just that. Our tiny little state is hyper-endemic with Lyme and OTBI's but we're not taking it lying down. Thanks to some brave and persistent folks before us, RI has some of the best legislation in the country and we're making efforts to build upon this great feat. CALDA has some great resources in case anyone is interested in such work. In the meantime we keep plugging along and specifically with regard to Dr. J, we continue to support him in any way we can. He has a wonderful family and LOVES to talk about his grandson. This must be how he keeps his head on straight. Also, it helps when all of us remind him of what he means to us and our children. Again, just another something that we CAN do. Be well and know that wherever you are, you are close in friendship to your counterparts in RI!
