Guest guest
Oh my! ROTFL!!! Until I saw Marta's posting I was thinking what you meant by " strain of spirochete " was that it was somehow strained, causing the pericarditis. Like there was some sort of stress on the bugger. Talk about lymebrain! Thanks for your help. Do you happen to know if they know what strain it is, or anything else about this? If they see patterns to what it responds to, or if there are certain geographic locations where this is more predominant? Love, Cheryl ) <<Hi Cheryl, Since there are about 300 strains of bacteria that can cause lyme, he said it is the particular strain that causes pericarditis, not all strains cause that. Guest guest
Hi Chery, He didn't specify which strain, I really think they don't know. Sounded to me like, not everybody gets pericarditis so it must be caused by something other than one strain. You are so funny, I couldn't think of a way to explain it ROFL too connie

Guest guest
Tia, All I can say is that pericarditis is quite painful and disconcerting, to say the least. I've experienced it many times. To date my physicians have just let it run its course with continued use of anti-inflamatories, as you are already taking. I don't reccommend narcotics for the condition. Guest guest
Dear Ray, Exactly what are the symptoms of pericarditis? I'm trying to determine if some of my chest area pain is from that... Debra!
Guest guest
I'm not Ray, but I'll tell you what my symptoms were. Don't take it as gospel, b/c this is my first experience with it! I had a few days of low-grade fever. I noticed that I was having those " extra " heartbeats, especially when I was tired. Then, I noticed when I was lying down at night that I felt a tremendous pressure on my chest. This progressed to having the feeling of having a steel band around the left side of my chest, with pain when I breathed in, under the arm, radiating to my shoulder, and even midline. Eating was horrible, because even a small amount of food would increase the pressury feeling. I found myself leaning forward while in a sitting position, and standing to relieve the feeling. It got to the point where I was somewhat miserable all day long, not just lying down. I actually feel signigicantly better after just a few days on Indocin. I only feel icky now when I'm tired. I found out after I was diagnosed that a classic sign of pericarditis is that leaning forward relieves the symptoms somewhat. Have you asked your doctor about your symptoms??? > Dear Ray, > > Exactly what are the symptoms of pericarditis? Guest guest
Hi, Ray, Thanks for the additional information about pericarditis. After the last email about this topic, I've been doing a bit of my own research and found several of the links you sent. Part of my interest in this topic is that I recently discussed with my rheumatologist a rapid heart beat that lasts under 5 seconds and occurs 1 or 2 times a week. He had no explanation and I planned on following up with my internist. Has anyone experienced anything like this, and, if so, did you find an explanation? Thanks - Pat
Guest guest
Your message has been edited. Please read the file entitled " Cleaning " Instructions found at /files/ for more information. Lyme Aid Owner ========== Carolyn, Yes, my pericarditis was definitely caused by the Lyme. Before I got sick fom the Lyme the biggest health problem I had to worry about was " colds " once in a while in the winter. It's good you are going to get it checked out. Pericarditis can be caused by an infection, which is why I asked if you were currently in antibiotics. I never ran a fever. You might want to discuss with your doctor. wrote: There are 25 messages in this issue. Topics in this digest:
Guest guest
Thanks , your reply is much appreciated, especially with everything you've got going on. It really is the most uncomfortable feeling isn't it. I was so scared before I found out what it was. It's still scary now but at least it does go off eventually before it rears up again. I feel in my heart of hears that I need a big whack of IV steroids to knock it on the head but I know that's out of the question. My RD really wants me down to 7.5mg of pred but I can't drop any lower than 10mg at the moment and he'll have to bear with me on that one. He worries about the long term consequences of being on steroids because I'm so young but, at the end of the day, my priority is daily functioning and I'll deal with 30 years time in 30 years time! I'm in too much pain for ifs and buts! I take a daily stomach pill which is fairly effective. I think I'm going to sound the GP out again and see if she'll take the risk with me and some anti-inflammatories. I know the pericarditis hasn't got a hope of clearing with nothing to fight it.I've been reading about it on the net and know it can become a chronic problem. I really don't want that on top of everything else! You take care won't you. Thank you again for your lovely reply. I'll keep posting with how things are going. Even though I haven't posted in a while, I do get so much from this group so thanks to all. Best wishes Kate (UK)

Guest guest
Gosh Kate, It's as if your talking to me this day. I don't know yet if mine is the pericarditis or the heart, before any of my friends be upset, I have been having chest pain since the night before last and was in for an echocardiogram yesterday so they know I am having pain and documented it on the test. Anyway, I have been on a 6 day steroid pack and it is the last day so I know what your feeling and I don't like it either. I don't know what the answers are but I know when my ulcer acts up and I find it hard to take my Naproxin, I have prescription prevacid that works very well for me. I hope your new meds kick in soon and you don't have to have the pain long. I know it's not comfortable and I'm going to stay home today and rest. Good to see you, ----- Original Message ----- From: katy_weeks1979 I've been having chest pain for a few months now and have just been told by the cardiologist that it is being caused by pericardial inflammation. The doc said that the treatment for this is steroids and anti- inflammatory medications. However, I'm currently down to 10mg of prednisolone having had a lot of pressure put on me by the RD because of the dreadful side effects. Docs won't put me onto anti-inflammatory tablets because I have a history of stomach ulcers. Has anyone got any thoughts on what might help? Recent Activity a.. 2New Photos Visit Your Group Yahoo! Guest guest
Arla, I have not had pericarditis but it is inflammation and psoriasis is a disease of inflammation. I have had numbness in different parts of my body when my PsA was not well controlled. I always attributed it to swelling putting pressure on the nerves. Just my theory. Hope you are better soon. Guest guest
Hi Arla, I have heard of the heart and lungs being affected by PsA, I haven't heard of anyone specific having it but it is a symptom. I no I have trouble with my lungs and am on inhalers and my doc thinks its all connected. It is very scary I no. If you haven't already I would see a rheumy and even a Cardiologist so they can monitor you. Lori in AZ
Guest guest
I don't know for sure that this is related but I'm betting that it is. Psa is caused from an over active immune system causing excessive inflammation and I know that Psa can cause damage to internal organs over time. You might want to read the following under symptoms http://arthritis.webmd.com/psoriatic-arthritis/psoriatic-arthritis-symptoms As for the leg numbness, I don't necessarily get numbness but I constantly have muscle pain in the upper right thigh and hip which gets worse with the more walking I do. It had gotten so bad that last month I went to my orthopedic for x-rays to be sure that it hadn't gotten to the point that it needed replaced like my left one had last year Celeste
Guest guest
Arla, Before I was diagnosed with PSA, I also experienced such bad chest pain that I went to the emergency and at that time they said I had a virus that attacked the muscles around my heart. Now I wonder if it was not associated with the PSA. I also have had numbness throughout my experience with PSA in different areas of my body. I thought it was associated due to the inflammation and swelling. That you for sharing your experience. -Kathy
