Guest guest
Hi and Welcome, Yes we have men here from the UK your levels are very low but in range it will be hard finding a Dr. with out some help that will treat you by how you feel not your dam labs. And yes your levels are that of an old man over 90. Guest guest
Thank you Phil Are there any research studies done that show what a 30 year old's Testosterone levels should be? If i can take proper published papers from a research journal then this might help the GP refer me, however, asking an endo to consider giving me T is another matter. Hmm it's no good i don't feel so good is it if my levels are so low Thanks Chris > > > From: <chrisjtaylor46@...> > > Subject: New here with results, looking for advice (in the UK) > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 4:04 AM > > Hello > > > > I am new here, I am wondering if I could get some advice > > please on my results and to see if they indicate low > > testosterone levels worthy of being treated? > > > > I am male 31, 5 ft 11, about 260lbs (overweight). > > These results were taken last week at about 9.40am. > > > > Serum Testosterone: 10.7 mmol/L range 7.6 - > > 31.4 > > Serum TSH (thyroid) 0.57 miu/L range 0.3 > > - 4.2 > > Serum FSH level 2.5 iu/L > > male range: 1.5-12.4 iu/L > > Serum LH level 2.2 iu/L > > range 1.7 - 8.6 > > Serum SHBG 18 > > nmol/l range 15-64 > > > > Also I had a test last year and the results were about 9.2 > > mmol/L. Guest guest
Hi again Sorry another question please I have been in contact with an endo who says he calculates my free T as being borderline low, and he says this could be caused by being overweight too. Is this a chicken and egg thing though - i mean, is it that i could have had low T and then that caused the weight to pile on and then this suppressed T even further? I have been on low dose hydrocortisone for just over a year - 5-10 mg a day. At the time of my first test when the results showed up as being 9.2 mmol/l i was on more like 20mg of hydrocortisone, if not 30mg. So going from 20 to 10 (say) has hardly had any difference on my T levels (9.2 to 10.7) . As these are still physiological doses of hydrocortisone, am i right in thinking that it wouldn't suppress T much? The hydrocortisone was to help me function with adrenal fatigue and that is much better now. I have had a varicocele since age 15, i read this could lower T levels too? My problems with fatigue and depression became much worse at age 30 after a period of stress and several colds on the trot. i wonder if borderline low T levels at the time then just got lower with stress and caused all kinds of problems? Thanks Chris > > > From: <chrisjtaylor46@...> > > Subject: New here with results, looking for advice (in the UK) > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 4:04 AM > > Hello > > > > I am new here, I am wondering if I could get some advice > > please on my results and to see if they indicate low > > testosterone levels worthy of being treated? Guest guest
did your Dr. test your LH and FSH levels with Estradiol if your Estradiol is good say 78 and your LH and FSH are low this means your Secondary your Pituitary is not telling your testis to make Testosterone. HC up to 40 mgs a day for Adrenal Problems is very safe and the dose has nothing to do with your Testosterone being low if anything it would help them come up. Men with Adrenal Fatigue end up with low Testosterone. Guest guest
Thanks Phil I have been in touch with the man who runs Androids and he has been very helpful but I am still trying to get past my GP to refer me to an endocrinologist, but i need to find one who is up on Testosterone and knows what he is doing rather than just dismissing me. 'over here', you can get referred on the NHS for no charge, but it's finding someone good, and then they may be bound by stricter guidelines which are probably there to save money. i have found someone who practises 'privately' and he sounds like he knows his stuff (he wrote a book and has been doing this for 30 odd years) and i spoke to him today, and he said he would treat by symptoms if necessary. however, it'd cost me the equivalent of a $1000 to see him initially, and i don't have that kind of money right now, plus i'd need to spend about $600 every 3-6 months just for the checkups, plus the actual cost of the meds every month. so it's not really an option at the moment it is hard knowing what's going on as they don't fully test everything, in my late teens and early 20s i went on amitryptiline and that made me impotent for about 18 months even when i came off it, and it took me a long time to recover, i wonder if that did something to my pituitary. i had chronic fatigue last year and couldn't work, they tested me for all kinds of infectious diseases and i asked about testosterone, they reluctantly tested and it was 9.2 (UK) and they lied and said this was normal. and they just brushed it off and said " well you still need to shave don't you? " . and the consultant wrote in the notes that i was trying to explain my symptoms by getting a low testosterone test instead of it being say depression. i did not feel good when i found out the result was so low and they'd written that in the notes. what seems to complicate matters more is taht i have alwasy since adolescence had alot of body hair (all over) and that does not seem to have diminisehd. it is not thick but it is pretty much all over (much to my annoyance!). i say this complicates matters more because i'd read that if men are low in T they lose body hair but mine seemed about the same. Could excess body hair indicate high dht levels? Thanks Phil I appreciate your help Chris > > > > > > > From: <chrisjtaylor46@> > > > > Subject: New here with results, > > looking for advice (in the UK) > > > > > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 4:04 AM > > > > Hello > > > > > > > > I am new here, I am wondering if I could get some > > advice > > > > please on my results and to see if they indicate > > low > > > > testosterone levels worthy of being treated? > > > > > > > > I am male 31, 5 ft 11, about 260lbs > > (overweight). > > > > These results were taken last week at about > > 9.40am. > > > > > > > > Serum Testosterone: 10.7 mmol/L range 7.6 - > > > > 31.4 > > > > Serum TSH (thyroid) 0.57 miu/L range 0.3 > > > > - 4.2 > > > > Serum FSH level 2.5 iu/L > > > > male range: 1.5-12.4 iu/L > > > > Serum LH level 2.2 iu/L > > > > range 1.7 - 8.6 > > > > Serum SHBG 18 > > > > nmol/l range 15-64 > > > > > > > > Also I had a test last year and the results were > > about 9.2 > > > > mmol/L. Guest guest
Hi Phil No the dr didn't test the estradiol, i don't know why, but she didn't. she just tested the things i posted here. it's almost like they don't want to test so they don't find anything wrong and can then say it's all in my mind. but even i can see that those results are low. i was so annoyed when i found out a couple of weeks ago that my T levels were low last year, i had suspected this all along and they lied to me. thank you for reassuring me about the HC and Testosterone - that is a relief that i have not made myself like this as it were. i developed sleep apnea last year (severe case) and i have read this can be from low Testosterone too as well as high testosterone. i have noticed my hair is starting to thin now, which bothers me a lot! as well as being too fat, i don't know if this is also a symptom of estrogen dominance. it's hard knowing what to do exactly since the drs aren't really willing to help right now - i am having to really push and justify everything i ask for. they retested in testostereone just to shut me up, but i'm going to play my trump card ! that is the email from an endo who i contacted who said he would see me on the NHS saying my free T is on the low side, the GP would look bad if she said she won't refer me after the dr has said this. but even if i do see the endo, it depends if he is willing to trial Testosterone and test all the other things and if he knows how to dose it right etc. could the excess body hair be a sign of too much DHT/estrogen problems or could it just be a genetic pattern? I just need to work out a plan of action now. ideally i'd cut out my GP from the equation and see the Dr in london, but i don't think i can afford that right now. otherwise i have to push for the right tests and see another endo. however i don't want to wait too long, i do not want all my hair to go! i have thought about buying some finasteride online but i didn't want to do that without baseline tests and knowing what i'm doing and ideally some kind of medical input. Thanks for your support Chris > > > > > > > From: <chrisjtaylor46@> > > > > Subject: New here with results, > > looking for advice (in the UK) > > > > > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 4:04 AM > > > > Hello > > > > > > > > I am new here, I am wondering if I could get some > > advice > > > > please on my results and to see if they indicate > > low > > > > testosterone levels worthy of being treated? Guest guest
you need to keep at it until you see a better Dr. I know what your saying about the cost times are very hard let alone being sick. I had on hair on my chest when I went on TRT now I have hair all over my upper body and I hate it once every 3 months I use my clippers on it and cut it all down. I don't shave it this it hell when you do that. I did have very high DHT levels on Gels and feel this is when the hair started to grow. I am sure someone here from the UK will jump in here and give you some names of Dr.'s to see and get you going. Guest guest
I feel the hair in your case is genetic pattern don't get on finasteride men end up with bad ED problems on this and low Testostrone. http://www.propeciasideeffects.com/ Free T is only 1 to 2% of your Total T so if your Free is low with your total low you have nothing. Guest guest
Thanks Phil So what other tests should i ask the GP for? Estradiol, DHT and prolactin or anything else? I tried taking thyroid last year, it didn't seem to help really, i hope that wouldn't affect T levels either? I never suppressed my tsh lower than 0.35 and my levels weren't ever hyper that i know of. i hope someone can provide the name of a good endo soon. i have mailed about 4 drs, 1 of whom gave me the names of two other drs who didn't reply, and one of whom said he would look at me at least. if all else fails i shall have to live on baked beans forever more and go see the dr in london! The excess hair isn't good is it, you have my sympathies. when i was younger and had enough energy to care (and money) i used to have waxings etc, ow, very painful - awkward when at school and stuff, and even now, feel very self conscious, just no energy to do anything about it. thanks chris > > > > > > > > > > > From: <chrisjtaylor46@> > > > > > > Subject: New here with > > results, > > > > looking for advice (in the UK) > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 4:04 AM > > > > > > Hello > > > > > > > > > > > > I am new here, I am wondering if I > > could get some > > > > advice > > > > > > please on my results and to see if they > > indicate > > > > low > > > > > > testosterone levels worthy of being > > treated? > > > > > > > > > > > > I am male 31, 5 ft 11, about 260lbs > > > > (overweight). > > > > > > These results were taken last week at > > about > > > > 9.40am. > > > > > > > > > > > > Serum Testosterone: 10.7 mmol/L > > range 7.6 - > > > > > > 31.4 > > > > > > Serum TSH (thyroid) 0.57 miu/L > > range 0.3 > > > > > > - 4.2 > > > > > > Serum FSH level 2.5 iu/L > > > > > > male range: 1.5-12.4 iu/L > > > > > > Serum LH level 2.2 iu/L > > > > > > range 1.7 - 8.6 > > > > > > Serum SHBG 18 > > > > > > nmol/l range 15-64 > > > > > > > > > > > > Also I had a test last year and the > > results were > > > > about 9.2 > > > > > > mmol/L. Guest guest
Ok i won't do that then. Guest guest
Man I have a list that your Dr.'s would think your nuts wanting them. Just do Total T, Free T, Estradiol, LH, FSH, DHT, prolactin and Ferritin or Iron levels. Guest guest
Thanks Barb - very interesting - and somewhat reassuring as my mothers side don't lose their hair as much Phil - do you know of anything good or bad about Regaine? Would it work maybe to stop my hair loss in its tracks? Ok so I won't take propecia due to side effects but wonder if Regaine might help. I have found another shampoo which supposedly clears dht from the scalp and is clinically proven supposedly improve hair growth (not Regaine another product which isn't sold over the counter at a pharmacy) thanks Chris > > http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/05/27/health/webmd/main698315.shtml > > Usually (but not always), you'll pattern after your mother's father. > > Barb

Guest guest
Hi Is it possible for hormone problems to be cyclical in nature? My problems seem sometimes to come in cycles, eg, having no 'interest' say for weeks, then going the other way as it were with over interest. Perhaps this is an anomoly but it seems like this sometimes happens. I have just got over a cold and wonder if this has really taxed my adrenals. I wonder if i've not been on enough adrenal support and my endogenous thyroid that's produced is just pooling in my blood as it can't get into the cells and giving me these symptoms which feel like the ones i used to have when i took t3 and may be related to hyper thyroid in the blood? has anyone got any thoughts on this please? could it be more adrenal causing this problem right now? i have just thought to try taking extra hc to see if this helps. thanks chris
Guest guest
When your sick with a cold your body will use up your HC meds faster then your dose. You need to be able to tell when this happens with a cold so you can stress dose. One guy got a cold and started feeling very shaky and weak even at tims sick to his stomach. He read up on this and took extra HC 5 mgs every 30 min's until this passed up to an extra 20 mgs if this dose not work you need to go to the ER. Here is a some link about this do read the FAQ's about Adreanls. The other thing that can do this is your Estradiol it's in everything food drinking out of Plastic bottles cooking in Plastic even buy food in Plastic. So from day to day Estradiol is never the same level when it gets high you lose your sex life. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=12 & t=256 Also read the best parts from the book " Safe Uses of Cortisol " The Dr. talks about stopping influenza by stress dosing. Guest guest
Thanks Phil I feel that the cold has hit me for six and immediately before that i had 2 teeth out and was on anti biotics. perhaps the variation in drive etc is part of this. it seems q extreme that's all, gone from one end of the spectrum to the other these last few days. also i was on codeine for the teeth so i wonder if that has disturbed everythign. i'll let everything settle down a bit i think, and take a bit more hc. i should have really upped the hc doses at first signs of a cold but i forgot too for some reason thanks Chris > > > From: <chrisjtaylor46@...> > > Subject: Re: New here with results, looking for advice (in the UK) > > > > Date: Thursday, June 3, 2010, 9:50 AM > > Hi > > > > Is it possible for hormone problems to be cyclical in > > nature?
