Guest guest
Gentlemen, I have all the indications from labs for secondary adrenal insufficiency. I need to approach my doctor for treatment. Is this something my Primary Care Physician can do or is there someone else who I should see? I have had kidney doctors, pain management doctors, Psychiatrists, and neourologists. All have seen the labs and understand the symptoms. Only the kidney doctor has said to step up the pace with getting treated. As he is the only doctor who has prioritized getting treated over his own speciality. I have taken lots of time off from work over the last 5 months trying to get to the bottom of what has been giving me a severe beatdown. My concern is I have immediate need for treatment and I do not have several months to go through the status quo treatment plan with doctors. I would have never found my way without this Group in overcoming severe hypogonadism; and have lots of apprehension and somewhat anxiety as I approach this. My gut tells me you guys are going to have to save me again. I would really appreciate insight as to which medicines have worked best. Particulary how you arrived at a dosage and how you personally understood what was working for you. Would those of you are being treated please tell me what to look for and keep an eye out for. Please use laymans terms. My cognitive skills are declining steadily. Thanks guys. This I hope is my last Steeple fence for many years to come. This is urgent because this battle is showing me loosing tremendously. Highten my understanding, perspective and confidence.
Guest guest
Hi , I am Secondary by your saying you have " secondary adrenal insufficiency " to me it means your Pituitary does not send the ACTH message that tells your Adrenals to make cortisol so you are suffering from Adrenal Insufficiency right. I had a very hard time getting my Dr. to treat this so I went on my own with his permission I got some Isocort it is sheep glands 8 pills = 20 mgs of Corisol. http://www.vitaminmd.com/inc/searchresults?s=Isocort & ss=Isocort & n=62971 One needs to start on this low and work up to 2 pills 4x's a day or every 4 hrs. Or get your Dr. to start you one Cortef HC 5mgs 4x's a day. With both of them you need to start low and work your way up on the dose. Read this link about this problem. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ And from this link it tells you how to treat it and how to start on Isocort or HC meds. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/how-to-treat/ Here is a cut and paste on starting it and each pill of Isocort is = to 2.5 mgs of HC. ============================ Day 1 – 3: 2.5 mg first thing in the AM (2.5 mg total) Day 4 – 6: 2.5 mg first thing, 2.5 mg in four hours (5 mg total) Day 7 – 9: 2.5 mg first thing; 2.5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours (7 1/2 mg total) Day 10 – 12: 5 mg first thing; 2.5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours (10 mg total) Day 13 – 16: 5 mg first thing; 5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg bedÂtime (15 mg total) Day 17 – 20: 10 mg first thing; 5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours; BedÂtime 2.5 mg (20 mg total) ---------------------------------------------------- In this link is a FAQ's about everything you need to know about this problem. Some of the links don't work but still it's full of good info. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=12 & t=256 When my Dr. seen how much better I felt on Isocort he put me on Cortef I startes with 20 mgs 5mgs 4x's a day ended up needing 30 mgs a day. Also I have low Aldosterone/Renin activity and adding 1/2 tsp full of Sea Salt first thing in the morning made me feel better. You need to test this later after your Adrenals are supported on Isocort or HC. http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/aldosterone/test.html If you need more info just ask. I spoke to my docs about it and no-one wants to try cortef. Ironically, my psychiatrist who treat my sleep issues was indignant at the medical community at their treatment of AI. " After all, they'll give you prednisone for almost anything! " Anyway - I digress. Right now I'm using a combination of Ginseng and Ashwagandha (herbs). They seem to be helping. If I feel as though I need to take it further, I will be following Phil's advice by purchasing some Isocort after first taking the saliva test. Unless you can find a doc that is really cutting-edge, that's the way to go. Best of luck, Dave > > Gentlemen, > > I have all the indications from labs for secondary adrenal insufficiency. Guest guest
Dave and , This is the group that is helping me with my adrenal insufficiency. Mine was caused by poor hypothyroid management and possible autoimmune (antibody test inconclusive). NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/?yguid=104711494 Dave- You need to be off all adrenal adaptogens including Ashwagandha for two weeks before saliva testing. Hope this helps, Jennie > > Hi , > > Right now I'm using a combination of Ginseng and Ashwagandha (herbs). They seem to be helping. Guest guest
Dave, As a guy with poor adrenal function, I would suggest you do a 4x saliva test to see where you are. My profile was low all day, so HC supplentation is a no brainer. Phil here is the man! Listen to what he says. I just started cortef today. Although my initial dose was too high this morning, Phil turned me on to a protocol from STTM that I'm very optimistic will work well. From what I've read, Isocort works well if a person adrenals aren't real bad. All those adaptogen herbs didn't do squat for me. That's just my system though. There is HC from alldaychemist.com. I don't know about the quality though. Take care. > > > > Gentlemen, > > > > I have all the indications from labs for secondary adrenal insufficiency. Guest guest
Dave,   Truly amazing how the doctors can play the field with the general administering of prescriptions and get shady when specifics are requested.  ________________________________ From: Dave <dcbaden@...> Sent: Wed, June 30, 2010 5:54:13 PM Subject: Re: Treatment for Low Cortisol- questions and concerns CORTEF???? -Urgent  Hi , Though I haven't yet done the saliva tests, all symptoms show that I have adrenal insufficiency as well. Guest guest
is great at that forum she helped me a lot then when I learned a lot about AI I ended up helping her with the forum when she was at STTM. At the forum I have for Men's Only Thyroid the owner will not let us talk about AI it was talking about AI that the owner of STTM had to shut down the forums. There are some people from RightThyroidHelp doing an AI forum I would love to help out with but I just don't have the time. http://hypopit.org/forum/index.php There is some good stuff here I should join there forum but I know if I do it will take up most of my day.
