Guest guest
Yes if your suffering from Adrenals that are over worked Working out is not going to help them. I am sorry to have to tell you this but your dam sick you need to rest your body get on some HC get your Adrenals supported on HC then go back into exercising slow not to over stress your Adrenals in this link it's full of info and a FAQ's about Adrenals. Don't mess around with this like I did it can kill you. I over did it leveled on HC going to the gym one morning and then working outside after I ended up in the ER they seen I was on HC and gave me a big shot of Medrol saved my life. It's called Adrenal Crisis you feel weak and get shaky feel like you need to lay down and get sick to your stomach. In this link some of the links don't work but still it's full of good info. If you start on HC read in the FAQ's how to start on it you just don't go on the full dose you need to work your ways up on it. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=12 & t=256 http://www.cushings-help.com/911.htm Co-Moderator Phil > From: jim <virtuosa150@...> > Subject: Cortisol & weightlifting > > Date: Sunday, June 27, 2010, 6:48 AM > The results of my 4x saliva tests are > back. Guest guest
Jim, salt won't replace the hormone missing from low cortisol situations. You need to rest from the training--it stresses adrenals further...if you are beginning HC replacement, you get the cortisol replaced thus relieving adrenals of the burden of doing so, your adrenals can heal and you can go back to the routine... I know it's hard...but more important to keep your health..then work slowly back to the routine as you can...EL > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. Guest guest
Phil, As always thank you for the time you devote to maintaining this forum, and I hope all is well with your health. Good links you provided. Some of the info I've read in the past but need to read again, other things will need further consideration. Yes, I quess I started lifting weights too quickly, before my adrenals were properly supported. It's bitter medicine to swallow but I guess I have to accept it at this point. I'm not at the point of " adrenal crisis " as you refer. I do get very shakey at times and can't handle stress of late, but I don't believe I'm anywhere near going to the ER. Although, my wife is ready to have me committed for mental reasons. Again Phil, thanks for your time. Guest guest
El, Thanks for you response. Salt seems to relieve the symptoms somewhat, if not for a somewhat short period. I've felt my adrenals have needed supporting from the start. I guess it's confirmed now. Up until about 3 weeks ago, I felt I was doing ok and feeling ok as well. Not anywhere near 100% mind you, but ok. I when on low dose iodoral supplementation 3 weeks ago and responded poorly. Since then, I've been suffering. I have never experienced symptoms as the type I'm currently experiencing. I'm a basket case at times. That iodoral is not good if a persons system is fragile. Anyway, I've pretty much thrown the towel in on the lifting until I can get my system supported. El, Thanks for your input. Take care. Jim > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. Guest guest
Jim Adrenal Crisis or getting shaky with stress if your on med Cortef HC you can stress dose to over come feeling like this and ending up in the ER. Just take 5mgs extra of HC every 30 min's up to 4x's then if your not better go to the ER. Most of the time just the one extra pill will do the job. If you find you needing to do this a lot then talk to your Dr. about going up on the dose. I start at 20 mgs/ day now I do 30 mgs and I don't find the need to stress dose the last time I needed to do this was a few months ago when my Son In Law had a stroke. He is fine now. Guest guest
Jim, I tried Iodine myself and it does stress the adrenals---and the symptoms of bromine detox are harder to handle even with all the recommended supporting nutrients Many men need at least 30mg HC to begin..as Phil suggested, keeping the meds with you at all times you can take a stress dose when required..many on hydrocortisone therapy for any length of time may consider a medical alert bracelet...if you are found unconscious or unable to speak for yourself, it can be invaluable to caregivers in assisting you medically (car wreck etc) with IM HC...EL > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. Guest guest
Very good post and it's true I ended up in the ER on 20 mgs of HC over doing going to the gym and then working out side. It came on me so fast I had no time to even stress dose. If it were not for the list of my meds that I keep on me I might not be here. http://www.cushings-help.com/911.htm In this link is a link to a FAQ's about Adrenals in it is all then info one needs to know about being on HC and stress doseing. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=12 & t=256 Co-Moderator Phil > From: mbmom123 <lathe30248@...> > Subject: Re: Cortisol & weightlifting > > Date: Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 5:51 AM > Jim, I tried Iodine myself and it > does stress the adrenals---and the symptoms of bromine detox > are harder to handle even with all the recommended > supporting nutrients > > Many men need at least 30mg HC to begin..as Phil suggested, > keeping the meds with you at all times you can take a stress > dose when required..many on hydrocortisone therapy for any > length of time may consider a medical alert bracelet...if > you are found unconscious or unable to speak for yourself, > it can be invaluable to caregivers in assisting you > medically (car wreck etc) with IM HC...EL > > > > > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. > My doctor tells me all levels are flatline low throughout > the day. Guest guest
So I finally got some cortef from my doc. This morning was my first dose of 5 mg. I'm feeling a little wired even though its been 7 hours since taking it. has anyone experienced this when they started on HC? He suggested I take another 5mg at 4:00. I don't want it to effect my sleep. Would it be good to take 2.5mg at 4:00 or possibly take it at 2:00. I think this stuff is what my body will need but I'm going to cut the dose back to 2.5mg tommorrow morning and see how I feel. > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. Guest guest
Jim don't take anymore to start one needs to go up very slow on this or it can cause a Thyroid Dump men with low levels of Cortisol there Thyroid hormones build up on the blood and you need Cortisol the carry this out of your blood into your cells so going slow on starting on HC this will happen slow if you go to fast it will dump all your Thyroid into your cells and make you hyper with some people they end up in the ER thinking they are having a heart attack. So don't do any more today in the morning only do 2.5 mgs and follow these links and Cut and Paste on starting. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/how-to-treat ==================================================== Day 1 – 3: 2.5 mg first thing in the AM (2.5 mg total) Day 4 – 6: 2.5 mg first thing, 2.5 mg in four hours (5 mg total) Day 7 – 9: 2.5 mg first thing; 2.5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours (7 1/2 mg total) Day 10 – 12: 5 mg first thing; 2.5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours (10 mg total) Day 13 – 16: 5 mg first thing; 5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg bedÂÂtime (15 mg total) Day 17 – 20: 10 mg first thing; 5 mg in four hours; 2.5 mg in four hours; BedÂÂtime 2.5 mg (20 mg total) =================================================== And read this link and the links in it some don't work anymore but the ones that do are full of info and do read the FAQ's I helped to this. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=12 & t=256 Co-Moderator Phil > From: jim <virtuosa150@...> > Subject: Re: Cortisol & weightlifting > > Date: Wednesday, June 30, 2010, 12:59 PM > So I finally got some cortef from my > doc. Guest guest
Phil have you considered niacin? Was used for years to control lipids but no profit in it.Thus statins were created.Flush free or you will experience a burning sensation on your skin shortly after taking it.A baby aspirin taken a hour before helps eliminate that sensation. For diabetics it has been shown to raise blood sugar though.I take it daily although I'm not overly concerned with my lipids. > > > > > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. > > My doctor > > > > tells me all levels are flatline low throughout > > the day. > > > > This explains how I've been feeling. > > > > > > > > > > I've been lifting weights for a few months > > now. Guest guest
My lipids or Chol. has never in my life been high Yrs. ago I did have gum infections one after the other this could have caused the blockage or my low Growth Hormone levels. They put all bypass surgery people on statins. And for every good thing you read about them there is something bad so who do you believe. Better safe then sorry but if they keep giving me problems I am not going to take them it's nuts. To have a heart Dr. tell how important it is get exercise then put you on statins the put you in pain every the FDA has a warning about joint and muscle pain how it can become permanent. Guest guest
Phil, about 1/2 hour after I posted this message, I could feel myself starting to crash. I decided to try 2.5mg. It worked after about 75 minutes. This will be a learning experience but i think doses of 2.5mg will work for me, at least early on. Again Phil, thanks for the link. Guest guest
Great Jim what you need to do is try to not workout unit your on the full dose of HC to start it would be 5mgs 4x's a day or every 4 hrs. Going up on the dose a little at a time works best is keeps you from having a Thyroid Dump and lets your body adjust to the dose with out shocking it. One way to tell how your Adrenals are doing is to take your temps after your up 3hrs then every 3 hrs 3x's a day add them up div. by 3 this is your avg. If after your doing 20mgs a day and your temps avg. stops going up or down 2ths your adreanls are supported then start back working out if after your workout or working about the house you don't recover fast add a little more HC this is called stress dosing to get over this feeling. Then the next time you workout cut back on until you find your recoving good. If you find you can't find this point you might need more HC talk to your Dr. about going up to 25 mgs a day. When your do your labs take your morning dose of HC then do a morning fasting cortisol blood test as long as you have a level your not on to much HC. I am on 30 mgs a day my blood labs come in at between 6 to 14 this tells my Dr. I am not shutting down my Adreanls. Taking HC your trying to slow them down so they can heal. Later in 6 months to a yr. you can try coming off the HC slow like the way you went on it. After your off it for 2 weeks do a 4x's in a day saliva test again see how things look. If you find you don't feel good coming off HC for this test your not healed yet. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Phil. I took 2.5mg this morning. I felt a bit jittery from this as well, but not too bad. I followed up about 4 hrs later with 2.5mg. I feel ok. Will be doing this again soon then that's all for the day. I guess the jittery feeling will go away once my system gets used to the HC being there. One thing I've found about my system is, starting off on very small doses of meds and working my way up is the way to go. > > > > > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests are back. > > My doctor > > > > tells me all levels are flatline low throughout > > the day. > > > > This explains how I've been feeling. > > > > > > > > > > I've been lifting weights for a few months > > now. Guest guest
Yes going low and up on the dose over days slow works the best next time you up the dose take 4 hrs later in time when your doing the full dose if you still feel like this in the morning do more then. I was doing 10 mgs when I got up then 5 mgs at lunch and dinner. Try to take this with food it's OK to do the morning dose with some milk. This is what I did I still wake up at 5 am so I took my 10 mgs and went back to bed when I got up at 8 am I felt dam good. Guest guest
I'm thoroughly convinced that cortef is what I will need until my adrenals come back to some degree of normal functioning. Thi some amazing stuff. I took 5mg this morning. I did go against Dr. Phil G's advice, I lift some weights this morning. I felt somewhat jittery afterwards. I took another 2.5mg about 2 hours after the first dose. This didn't do a whole lot. I took an additional 2.5mg about 1 hr later. Bingo. This got me right back into things. My head was much clearer and wasn't shakey at all.I even experienced a pleasant feeling. My last dose was about 8 hours ago and I still don't feel bad, although I did mention to my wife that I could feel myself being slightly off a few hours ago.I probably should have taken 2.5mg at 4:00pm. The trick will be finding the minimum amount needed at the particular times through out the day and when and how much to stress dose. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests > > are back. > > > > My doctor > > > > > > tells me all levels are flatline low > > throughout > > > > the day. > > > > > > This explains how I've been feeling. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I've been lifting weights for a > > few months > > > > now. Guest guest
Jim, NTH adrenals *used* to recommend a slow uptake to the full dose of HC over 7 days or so-- and now does not...the reason is that when you don't have *enough* for your body, you will then experience the adrenalin jitters..so, you don't want to *stress* dose for a gym workout, when you should be taking a regular dose every 4 hours or so to keep your rhythm as close to what *normal* would be.. ---what is the total daily dose you are to take? Mine was 20 (I am now weaning off after two years of healing)..and I dosed it thusly: 7.5mg (upon arising for me 5a), 5mg 11A, 5mg 2P, and 2.5mg at bedime.. (7.5/5/5/2.5) you can experiment with your personal schedule and whole daily dose, you want to dose as it naturally occurs in your body...or as close as possible..more in am, tapering thru out the day...about every 4 or so hours..I would not suggest every 8 hours, your body (if it could) would not produce it naturally that way... Guest guest
Jim it's not good to do this until your supported on the HC. It can take a good 30 days when your doing the full dose 20 mgs / day 5 mgs 4x's a day or if you feel low in the morning do 10 mgs then 5 at noon and dinner. One way to tell your supported is to take your temps starting 3 hrs after you get out of bed then every 3 hrs 3x's a day. Add them up div. by 3 this is your avg. if your temp avg. goes up or down more then 2ths. your not on it long enough or you need more the 20 mgs a day. It's not good to stress dose to do things this is for an emergency like when you get stress due to back news or upset about something or your getting sick like the flue. I don't stress dose to work out I do my HC dose to help me over come my workout. I wake up at 5am I take meds at this time Thyroid, HC, Shots of T or HCG and go back to bed. When I wake at 8am I feel better. I eat at about 9am and take 5mgs more then I go to the gym or exercise or cut the grass about 11am when I am done I eat lunch about 1pm and I take 10mgs more this helps me recover but it's not a stress dose then at 6pm I eat and take 5 mgs for a total of 30 mgs a day. Most people don't need the max dose of 40 mgs a day. The ones that do find it gets killed in there stomach. Note: Don't stress dose to exercise every time you work out if you feel you need to do this your over doing it. In this link it shows you how to track your temps avg. you can even print out a chart to chart this. http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph Co-Moderator Phil > From: jim <virtuosa150@...> > Subject: Re: Cortisol & weightlifting > > Date: Saturday, July 3, 2010, 9:26 PM > I'm thoroughly convinced that cortef > is what I will need until my adrenals come back to some > degree of normal functioning. Guest guest
EL, thanks for your reply and recommendations. Yesterday I took a total of 10mg cortef. I've only been taking it for 5 days. I won't stress dose anymore but just work my way up to 20mg. I don't feel jittery today at all having taken 5mg (6:00 am) and 5mg (10:00am). I feel a little tired because my sleep is very bad. I don't believe this is because of low glucose since my morning glucose tests are usually in the 90's. Today I'm going to take 2.5mg at around 1:00pm and 2.5 at 4:00pm. I curious to see if I'll sleep any better. My doctor recommended taking 5mg upon rising and 5mg at 4:00pm. I asked if the last dose would cause sleep disturbance. He said no, possibly it my help my sleep. We'll see. Take care and have a good 4th. Guest guest
Phil, I won't try to stress dose to lift weights anymore. Since my cortisol is very low in the morning, probably working up to 10mg at that time may be good. I will have to pass this by my doc. when I talk to him. I will start to take my temp. in a few days. I'm also going to try a low dose of HC at 4:00pm today to see if it will help my sleep any. Take care Phil and have a good 4th. Guest guest
Great men with sleep problems taking Cortef helps them going on HC can lower ones sugar for people with higher levels this works good. If you wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat it's your sugar going down try eating some cheese or nuts before bedtime. Also you can take a low dose like 2.5 at bedtime for some it helps them sleep others it keeps them up you need to try it but give it a few days. Guest guest
Jim you have a wonderful long weekend as well. Look forward to hearing how the dosing works for you ...I took a bedtime dose for a while, then when my daytime cortisol rebounded, the night time worked itself out and I was able to sleep..EL > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests > > > > > are back. > > > > > > > My doctor > > > > > > > > > tells me all levels are flatline low > > > > > throughout > > > > > > > the day. > > > > > > > > > This explains how I've been feeling. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I've been lifting weights for a > > > > > few months > > > > > > > now. Guest guest
EL, Yesterday I dosed: 5mg 5:00am 5mg 9:00am 2.5mg 1:00pm 2.5mg 4:00pm My sleep since starting the cortef has really been bad. The 3 hours that I may have had before started is all but gone. Now I don't really fall asleep, rather just tose all night. It seems that possibly my sleep is getting worse as my dose is ramped up. Possibly my system is seeing support during the day, but nothing during the night. I'm going to try 2.5mg at bedtime tonight. What do I have to loose? During the day I no longer shake, so that's a good thing. I now it's not hypoglymenia since I took my glucose at 2:00am. It was 97. I see in your reply that you were taking some a bedtime. Phil stated in one of his replies that a bedtime dose helps some folks. Take care, Jim > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The results of my 4x saliva tests > > > > > > are back. > > > > > > > > My doctor > > > > > > > > > > tells me all levels are flatline low > > > > > > throughout > > > > > > > > the day. > > > > > > > > > > This explains how I've been feeling. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I've been lifting weights for a > > > > > > few months > > > > > > > > now.
