Guest guest
Phil, Do you have a link to any info about the positive effect of HC at bedtime? I've been searching but haven't been able to find anything. It seems that my sleep is getting worse as my HC dose is ramped up. My last dose yesterday was at 4:00pm. I'm going to try some at bedtime tonight. I do wake in sweats but I took my glucose last night. It was 97, so hypoglycemia is out. I don't think my E2 is elevated. Take it easy, Jim > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The results of > > my 4x > > > > saliva tests > > > > > > are back. > > > > > > > > My doctor > > > > > > > > > > tells me all levels > > are > > > > flatline low > > > > > > throughout > > > > > > > > the day. > > > > > > > > > > This explains how > > I've been > > > > feeling. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I've been > > lifting > > > > weights for a > > > > > > few months > > > > > > > > now. Guest guest
I from time to time have to do the same thing last time I just took less in the morning and added it to my bedtime. I only do this when I have problems with lower sugar levels that wake me up. The last time I only needed to do this for 3 weeks then all was good again. Guest guest
Jim if your E2 is high it will do this do you take anything to keep it down is so try a little more around 8pm by bedtime it should be working. In this link at the bottom it talks about sleep problems. Also Thyroid can do this to you it can change adding HC still you need to do your temps to see what is going on. http://livingnetwork.co.za/hormones/adrenal-fatigue/ Co-Moderator Phil > From: jim <virtuosa150@...> > Subject: Re: Cortisol & weightlifting > > Date: Monday, July 5, 2010, 8:38 AM > Phil, > Do you have a link to any info about the positive effect of > HC at bedtime? Would this be done in the " Rich Text Editor " mode? Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Before I started HC, typically in the PM I'd be very tired and ready for bed. Now I feel somewhat " up " and not ready for bed. On the NTH forum I found a possible explaination. The person with the insomnia problem was ramping up the HC. It was stated that the persons adrenal were not supported enough in the AM, but their adrenals had caught up in the PM, causing the insomnia. Today I'm trying: 7.5mg 5:00am 5mg 9:00am 5mg 1:00pm nothing more after 1:00pm Then I'm going to try 2mg Melatonin at bedtime with maybe some ZMA. Any thoughts on this scheme? You might add 2.5 mg at 5 p.m. I would not recommend melatonin because it lowers cortisol, and when you supplement HC during the day, you can go low overnight, and either high or low cortisol will cause insomnia. If you're just wide awake at bedtime, your cortisol is probably high. If you feel like you're vibrating, you're low, and you could try a small bedtime dose. I think that possibly HC doesn't leave my system in 4 hours as many others claim it does. Before starting HC 1 week ago, I would typically feel tired in the PM, ready for sleep. I would be able to fall asleep, although I would wake up about 2.5 hours later. Now I feel awake in the PM, leading me to believe that possibly the cortisol is too high. Today I'll be stopping the HC at 1:00pm with melatonin at bedtime. What's the worse that could happen, another sleepless night? Thanks for your reply. Guest guest
> Yesterday I dosed 2.5mg HC at 4:00pm and 2.5mg 10:00pm. I felt wide awake. This is because you didn't take enough as your first morning dose to suppress yourself for the rest of the day. Also, a bedtime dose needs to be taken when you're in bed, ready to hit the pillow. If 10 p.m. was not your actual bedtime, it would keep you awake. > I think that possibly HC doesn't leave my system in 4 hours as many others claim it does. I disagree. I think your dosing just needs fine-tuning. > Now I feel awake in the PM, leading me to believe that possibly the cortisol is too high. It could be, since you didn't suppress yourself with a high enough dose. >Today I'll be stopping the HC at 1:00pm with melatonin at bedtime. What's the worse that could happen, another sleepless night? You may feel shaky or anxious way before then, in which case do take the 5 p.m. dose. Also, 2 mg of melatonin can be way too much. Many do better with .5 mg or less. Sweet dreams! Barb
Guest guest
Yes try this but what is going on here is your not supported yet you need to work your way up to 20mgs a day hold this for 30 days takeing your temps. What might be going on here is your body is make it's own Cortisol at a higher amount later in the day. As you get supported this will stop as you get up to 20 mgs try 10mgs morning 5mgs noon then 5 mgs dinner but wait until your temps avg. is not going up or down more then 2ths day to day. So for now try this. I was able to fall asleep, but woke up and restless throughout the night. This morning I was shakey. So Barb was right. I should add some HC as a early PM dose. This morning at 5:00am I took 10mg HC. I just took an additional 5mg at 9:00. I'm going to try 5mg at 12:00 and 2.5mg at 5:00pm. If I feel too awake before I go to bed, I'm going to a sublingual melatonin and 1mg sustained release melatonin.
Guest guest
Jim, so that you don't become discouraged, know that it takes a lot of trial and error to get HC dosing right. I know about this because I went through it trying to get hubby's dose right. The higher you start your first dose, the more you suppress your own cortisol levels for the day. Because you already bumped up to 10 today, you will have to continue supplementing through the day, and may even need a bedtime dose. The lowest dose you can get away with is probably best. Guest guest
> Thanks Barb. It's a bit challenging finding what works but it will be well worth it in the end. What total dose for the day is your husband on? Does he sleep well, or dose he need sleep aids? The only reason we put him on HC was so that he could add thyroid meds. Your thyroid HAS been tested, right? Anyway, he got up to 40 mg HC, trying to tolerate the recommended 3 grains that other groups push. Both were too much. Once he lowered to 2 grains, he didn't need as much HC and currently does not take any on a daily basis, but occasionally stress doses if he gets shaky from a stressful day. He generally sleeps well now with no aids, but when ramping up the HC, there were many sleepless nights. I think his best dose was something like 7.5, 5, 5, 2.5 (which you almost did yesterday!) Guest guest
Jim I still take a low dose of Xanax .25 mgs Dr. whats me to stay on this to keep me from having a Panic Attack in the middle of the night I also take some melatonin 3 mgs at bedtime been on this for yrs. Yes they say it lowers your Cortisol levels but this is what we are doing lowing the output of Cortisol from the over worked Adrenals. So when we take HC Cortef to support the Adrenals we are slowing down it's out put of cortisol. Melatonin will not lower your HC meds that I know of. I take at bedtime ZMA this helps with feeling restless, I also take Iodoral (12.5 mg),TMG 750mgs this is for my Heart but some of it turns into SamE and helps one sleep and I take a l-Arginine and l-Orthinine 750 mg, Twinlab. I sleep good what you now need to do is keep with this dosing give it 30 days it should get better by the day. So far today I've taken a total of 15mg cortef. Am I feeling shakey because of too much HC? I've been shaky all morning. I was planning to take 5mg soon but I don't know why I'm feeling this way presently. > >

Guest guest
I guess going from 1:00pm yesterday to 5:ooam today without HC was a bad idea. > > > > > > > > This morning at 5:00am I took 10mg HC. Guest guest
Yes if you read this from the book " Safe Uses of Cortisol " you will see you can take this and be safe on it. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/safe-uses/ Co-Moderator Phil > From: jim <virtuosa150@...> > Subject: Re: Cortisol & weightlifting > > Date: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 1:26 PM > I guess going from 1:00pm yesterday > to 5:ooam today without HC was a bad idea. > > > > > > > > > > > > > This morning at 5:00am I took 10mg HC.
