Guest guest
Do you take meds to lower your Cholestrol after having Heart Bypass surgery they put me on them and I never in my life had high Cholestrol. I am right now on a diff. med because it's causing me joint and muscle pain. I just read an new letter from Mercola.com about the danger of taking Statin drugs. My new med is doing the same thing to me my back and hips hurt and when I stop taking them meds the pain starts going away. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/07/20/the-truth-about-st\ atin-drugs-revealed.aspx I see my Dr. this morning and I am asking him to take me off this med I read more info that says this drug is bad for your health and does not save your heart. I have had joint and muscle pain from low levels of Testosterone also. Your doing shots every 10 days this might be why dose our pain start when your 5 days after your shot and get better with your do your shot. I do my shots of Test C every 3 days this keeps me more leveled and holds down my Estradiol levels. And I do my HCG shots the day before my Test C shot. Your levels same good can you post your last labs with the ranges and units. What are or how much are you taking to lower your Estradiol. If your not using Arimidex you might need this if your that high. Your Total T can look good with high Estradiol but your Free T will become low it binds it up so it dose not work and this can be why your having pain it might be an old injury and it's not getting supported by your bound up Testosterone. Guest guest
With my Heart Problem I was getting heartburn and reflux. My Dr. treated this for about a yr. nothing was helping so I asked him to check my heart we did a stress test and shot die in me and Xrayed my heart and arteries going to it. Nothing showed up but a dark area in the bottom of my heart the looked like a defect in the Xray. My Dr. used this to get an approval for a 24 bit scan on my heart and it was this that showed the blockage. I you feel there is something wrong with your heart keep at them. If I did not keep at my Dr. I might not be here now. Guest guest
I would be concerned with your high estradiol and possibly low Free T3. I believe both are implicated in heart disease. As Phil mentioned, you can lower the estradiol just by taking smaller doses more often. He does his every 3 days, my hubby does 30 mg every 5 days. The fact that your cholesterol is still high indicates your Free T3 is probably low, since there's an inverse relationship of that to cholesterol. I would insist on a Free T3, Free T4, reverse T3, morning cortisol, and ferritin when you get your labs. Here's a link on low thyroid, can't find one on the estradiol, though I know I've read it somewhere. http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/107/5/708 Low-T3 Syndrome A Strong Prognostic Predictor of Death in Patients With Heart Disease Giorgio Iervasi, MD; Alessandro Pingitore, MD, PhD; Patrizia Landi, BSc; Mauro Raciti, BSc; Ripoli, PhD; Scarlattini, BSc; L'Abbate, MD; Luigi Donato, MD From C.N.R. Clinical Physiology Institute and Scuola Superiore di Studi Univeritari S. (A.L.A.), Pisa, Italy. Correspondence to Giorgio Iervasi, MD, C.N.R. Clinical Physiology Institute, Via G. Moruzzi, 1, 56124, Pisa, Italy. E-mail iervasi@... Background— Clinical and experimental data have suggested a potential negative impact of low-T3 state on the prognosis of cardiac diseases. The aim of the present prospective study was to assess the role of thyroid hormones in the prognosis of patient population with heart disease. Methods and Results— A total of 573 consecutive cardiac patients underwent thyroid function profile evaluation. They were divided in two subgroups: group I, 173 patients with low T3, ie, with free T3 (fT3) <3.1 pmol/L, and group II, 400 patients with normal fT3 (>=3.1 pmol/L). We considered cumulative and cardiac death events. During the 1-year follow-up, there were 25 cumulative deaths in group I and 12 in group II (14.4% versus 3%, P<0.0001); cardiac deaths were 13 in group I and 6 in group II (7.5% versus 1.5%, P=0.0006). According to the model, fT3 was the most important predictor of cumulative death (hazard ratio 3.582, P<0.0001), followed by dyslipidemia (HR 2.955, P=0.023), age (HR 1.051, P<0.005), and left ventricular ejection fraction (HR 1.037, P=0.006). At the logistic multivariate analysis, fT3 was the highest independent predictor of death (HR 0.395, P=0.003). A prevalence of low fT3 levels was found in patients with NYHA class III-IV illness compared with patients with NYHA class I-II ({chi}2 5.65, P=0.019). Conclusions— Low-T3 syndrome is a strong predictor of death in cardiac patients and might be directly implicated in the poor prognosis of cardiac patients. Guest guest
Phil & Barb, So far, I am not a Heart Patient. Only for the past one year my HDL is low by 5 points and LDL is high by 5 points. Other than that no issues so far. Before that I had perfect bloodlevels of cholestrol. I became Hypothyroid since April 2008 and started taking Synthroid. And since Nov 2008 I became Low T and started Test gels etc and since early 2009 (about an year) I started Test Cyp injections, HCG and also DIM. This pain is something very new and am observing last couple of weeks. Before that in April 2008 I went for a heart check up when I had palpitations (that were caused by Hypothyroid) and even all my test were very normal and it went away after I started my Thyroid meds. I am an active person so far and also am only 38 now. Also, my T3, T4, RT3 all are in range as of my last test. My TSH was a little high so I was put on a higher dose but after that I did not check anything yet. Any how I will get it checked and will keep you posted. Thank you all. Guest guest
Joe I hope you figure this out I know how it gets with having pain. I can't go 4 months without something giving me pain. Now I am getting it from a Chol. med thank God my Dr. took me off it this morning. But now trying to lower my Test C shots to see how I do with HGH added did me in so now I am set back a few more weeks it never ends. Joe, Synthroid is a T4 med, which means your body must convert it to the active T3, and some people don't convert well. That is why you measure FREE T3, in addition to total T3, and FREE T4, along with total T4, and rT3. Low T3 can cause heart problems, and in range is not necessarily good if it's at the bottom of the range. You want mid-range or higher on Free T3. And you want mid-range or lower on rT3. Guest guest
Phil and Barb: Thank you. I went to our GP this evening and got checked out. My BP was 110/74 on the right arm and 102/69 in the left arm. They got my ECG and the vent rate was 56 bpm. PR interval was 132. They said normal but reffered me to a cardiologist to have a thorough check up and I have an appointment is on Thursday morning. Barb: I dont worry about my Thyroid levels because my harmone doc is an excellent specialist and only does Harmones. Nothing else. And in harmones he only does Thyroid and for me he does Test and HCG etc. But thank you for the info. I will check my levels again. I also have a blood work next week and I will be doing a ton of tests. Total Thyroid Panel, Cardiac Enzymes, Lipids, Testosterone, Estroidal and others. I will ask my doc to add Ferritin and others. I will check my last (4 - 5 months back) labs and will post them on where I stand on my T3 and RT3. Guest guest
Phil & Barb, I visited my Cardiologist today. He did an Exersice Stress Test and also an Echo cardiogram. Both look normal. He mentioned that the pain is not associated with heart as both the tests are very normal. But he asked me to try some gas relieving meds. I will take some Omeprazole and will see how it works. Thank you for all your responses and support. Barb: I checked my past three labs from March 10, Dec 09, Sep 09. My free T3 is 1.4 Ref: 0.8 - 1.8 ng/dl. But my Estrodiol is very bad and I am working on it. Thanks Joe > > >Also, my T3, T4, RT3 all are in range as of my last test. Guest guest
Joe, glad to hear you checked out ok. But we still don't know if you're low thyroid (not converting) cause that's a Free T4 value, not Free T3. Although it's a very good FT4 value! Guest guest
I am on Synthroid 100mcg(Generic from India but works wonderful and costs less than my copay $5 for 100 tabs.) I am on Test Cyp every 10days 80 - 100mg and also am on HCG two times before my T shot, take DIM etc. (My Estroidol was high last time) Following your ....or ....allthingsmale Test Cyp protocol. My free T4 is 1.4 Ref: 0.8 - 1.8 ng/dl.My FT3 is 351 Ref: 230 - 420 pg/dl, My TSH is 1.24 Ref: 0.4 - 4.5 mIU/L. My Testosterone is in 700 -800s. You think an Echo and a heavy excersice stress test should be good enough ? All, Phil & Barb, do you think I should get my cardiac enzymes tested ? Guest guest
I was told my Heartburn was not a heart problem so I kept taking meds for this when it did not get better I asked for more testing on my Heart. I started getting so bad when I got up to go to the bathroom I could not catch my breath. A stress test showed nothing and I feel they are not good tests to show one has a blockage or Heart problem. It was a 24 bit scan that showed I had blockage and it was in the 2 main arteries that fed my heart they were 99% blocked and the 3rd. one feeding my heart was under developeded from birth. I was a walking dead man. If you feel there is something wrong keep at them. Guest guest
Joe, I'm in agreement with Phil here. DH had chest pain in the same area you're describing, upper left by the shoulder. He had a nuclear stress test, imaging, the standard stuff a cardiologist does, and everything came back fine. So I go and read a bunch of cardiology books and like Phil said, they don't always show everything. The cardiac enzymes are only present for about 48 hours after a true heart attack when the heart muscle is breaking down. If you no longer have pain, and it's past that time frame, it won't show anything. I lean toward the theory that estradiol and testosterone work oppositely in the body. Testosterone will dilate your arteries, and estradiol will constrict them. That said, if you have a small clot in the shoulder area, and your estradiol is high enough to cause constriction, then your blood would have a hard time getting past that small area, and that could cause pain. Open it up just a little by bringing the estradiol down, and the clot will just be a bump the blood goes around. In any case, I put DH on nattozyme, an OTC supplement that is supposed to slowly break down clots, he lowered his TC dose and started DIM, and I believe his estradiol is down cause he no longer has hot flashes and his chest and belly have gone down. Your FT3 looks pretty good, the final test is symptoms. Heels not cracked, have full eyebrows (not thin, especially towards the outside), hands/feet not cold? If you have any hypo symptoms I would get rT3 tested. Guest guest
Phil & Barb and others, Thank you for your support. I am watching if the pain will go away. I started taking DIM again to see if it helps. I have ordered Arimidex which is supposed to be here soon. I know that my Estroidal levels were very high. And DIM is not helping much. I kind of neglected it as everything seems alright (like energy levels, mood, wood etc) but .......my E2 is high. Other things are : Did you get an Echo Cardiogram ? My doctor says Echo is about 75% accurate and with the sympotoms they will analyse the rest. I do not have any shortness of breadth now. My BP is very normal. Ranges between 109/69 -- 120/74. I am 38 yrs old. ( I do not have Hypertension and I am also not diabatic). I am Hypothyroid but I am not overweight) My Cholestrol levels 4 months back are : Total cholestrol 183 (Range 125 - 200 mg/dl), Triglycerides - 71, (Range - < 150 mg/dl), LDL - 135 (range - < 130mg/dl), HDL - 34 (Range >= 40mg/dl). Even on a stress test my BP did not go up beyond 128/78 at high speeds. I was told by someone today that the chances of having a block are thin as there is no BP, nor shortness of breath and as the tests did not show anything EKG, Echo, Stress test.... considering all these things I was told my chances of having a block is very thin. What do you think ??? Do you think I may get better after my E2 levels are down ? I am still going to get further testing if required but for now I am just waiting based on what my doctor said. Guest guest
ED it is hard to say if E2 coming down will fix this I had so many things go wrong with high E2 levels I forgot most of them. How high are your Testosterone levels. I ask this because when I went on Growth Hormone my Dr. told me later we could lower my dose of Testosterone and we did it took 3 months but as time went by my levels did come down but now they are to low and I am having a lot of joint and muscle pain. I have a old injuries that hurt with my levels get low. Guest guest
Yes, an EKG was done. His pain was mostly on exertion but is now gone. I credit a year of natto, lowering TC, stopping nettle root, and adding DIM. Your BP is on the low side, enough to investigate cortisol levels. Do you ever get dizzy standing up? Several sources say the best heart attack predictor is triglycerides/HDL, not cholesterol. Should be less than 4 for best health and yours is around 2, so very good. I personally feel pain is your body trying to tell you something and should be investigated. So maybe it's not your heart. Do you smoke? Could be something in your lungs. You can get an anatomy book out and look to see what's in the area of your pain. The obvious things are heart, lungs, cracked ribs, for example. I scrolled down to your initial post where it says you dose TC every 10 days. You might seriously consider less more often. Phil does every 3 days, DH does every 5 days. You might try 40 every 5 days, exactly half what you're doing now. That alone will bring your estradiol down. Guest guest
Phil & Barb, Thank you. Phil: My Testosterone was 750 the last time and again I am due testing everything. May be this week. Barb, my HDL was 34 (Range >= 40 mg/dl) which is a little low and I am taking Niacin to improve it. Also, my triglycerides were 71 (Range < 150 Mg/dl)My Chol/HDLC Ratio is 5.4 (Range <= 5.0 (calc)). This is high a little bit. Also, I dont smoke and I was never a smoker.I also dont drink alchohol. Also, I dont have any dizzy spells etc but I will get my adrenals checked next time. My cousin in law is a doctor and I discussed it with him and he said the areas that I am having pain are pointing to heart but nothing else is showing anything wrong like BP, EKG, stress test, Echo, symptoms like vomiting/diaerreha, shortness of breath and pain is not severe or long enough etc. He asked me to take a couple more of the omeprazole tablets and see if the pain subsides (if it is because of gas). If not, go back to the cardiologist for extensive testing. Thank you, Joe > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello Phil and all, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am 38yrs old, diagnoised with Low T about two > > > > > years ago (2008) and on Test Cyp every 10days 80 - 100mg and > > > > > also am on HCG two times before my T shot, take DIM etc. (My > > > > > Estroidol was high last time) Following your ....or > > > > > ...allthingsmale Test Cyp protocol. > > > > > > > Also, on Synthroid 88mcg everyday. > > > > > > > I have high Cholestrol ... slightly high LDL and > > > > > slightly low LDL (as of Feb 10) and needs to check again > > > > > next week. > > > > > > > Recently I am experiencing some pain in my left > > > > > shoulder, leftside back in ribs etc (sometimes pointed pain > > > > > etc). > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Two years ago I had irregular heart beat and went > > > > > to the cardiologist and he got me tested with exercise > > > > > stress test, and some scannings (one is like an xray machine > > > > > small enough for my chest with dye and another is like an > > > > > ultra sound ..... and everything turned out to be normal > > > > > except I just got Hypothyroid and that's the reason I have > > > > > irregular heartbeats. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Now I am experiencing pain in the left shoulder > > > > > and other symptoms. Guest guest
I answered this Friday night and just got a notice it didn't go through. Many posts on many sites have not gone through. But I think it's important enough to address so here goes again. The heels on the bottom of your feet should be smooth. When you're hypothyroid, they are very cracked and dry, and you can sometimes peel layers off. When I was most hypo, I could peel chunks of skin off and it didn't even bleed, because the skin underneath was dead too. This is not normal and indicates you don't have enough thyroid in you. Get Free T3, Free T4, reverse T3 checked. Barb > > Could you elaborate on " heels not cracked " statement and what your referring to or implying, please. > > > From: Barb > Your FT3 looks pretty good, the final test is symptoms. Heels not cracked, have full eyebrows (not thin, especially towards the outside), hands/feet not cold? If you have any hypo symptoms I would get rT3 tested. Guest guest
Even with my Thyroid leveled good I still have this problem. I did get some relief from it when I was on 4 grains of Armour still I needed to take it off with my pet egg. Now that I am off Armour just doing synthroid it's real bad I need to take if off with my pet egg every month. Guest guest
Phil, I know you've got multiple things going on being hypopituitary, and I certainly don't want to be argumentative, but your last thyroid labs showed a very high rT3, and a below mid-range FT3. I guess it boils down to the question of what exactly is a " good " level of thyroid? Glad you're feeling better enough to go to the gym today.
