Guest guest
Hi and Welcome, If your Hypopituitary I am you need all your hormones checked. I need to treat my Thyroid, Cortisol, Growth Hormones, Aldosterone, Renin and Iron levels. Your lucky your Dr. got this right it took me 23 yrs to figure this out. I am on Testosterone Cypionate shots I do 70 mgs every 3 days and I do HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) shots 250 IU's the day before my Test C shots. You being Secondary need to look into doing this with your gel every 3 days. Doing this will keep your Testis working and keep your more leveled HCG acts like the LH message you don't get from your pituitary that tells your testis to make more T. Also I am on Cortef HC (Hydrocortisone) my Pituitary does not tell my Adrenals to make enough Cortisol so I do 30 mgs total a day doing 10mgs at 5am, 5mgs at 9am, 10 mgs at 1pm and 5 mgs at 6pm. I am on Florinef my body dumps my sodium because of my low Aldosterone and Renin levels. And I need to add 1/2 tsp of Sea Salt to my water 3x's a day. I was on Armour Thyroid meds if you need to treat this try ERFA Thyroid it's like the old Armour. http://www.universaldrugstore.com/medications/Thyroid/60mg Because of my Thyroid not being told to work right by my Pituitary my stomach dose not take out the Iron I need from my food so my Ferritin levels were below the normal range. So I need to take Iron pills for life. I am just getting over Heart Bypass Surgery Dr.'s tell my it's from having low hormones the main one Growth Hormone so now I am on this. I am not trying to upset you just a heads up as to what can go wrong. Did your Dr. order an MRI on your pituitary to rule out a tumor. I don't have this mine is from a Head Injury. It's rage to be cancer but needs to be checked out. If your Dr. put you on a starting dose of Androgel 5 grams you need to redo your labs in 2 weeks to be sure it works or your Testosterone levels can fall even lower. Going on TRT of any kind your brain sees this and stops sending the messages to your Testis to make more Testosterone. In your case I can't see you going lower then 116 but your need to be on enough Androgel to get your Total T levels up into the upper 1/3 of your labs range for a young man. Now for your libido you need to check your Estradiol levels men on TRT can end up with higher levels and this kills your sex life. Also Estradiol in men is made from Testostereone and if your levels are very low so can your Estradiol this low levels kill you sex life also. So if you don't get night time and morning wood or have ED you need to check this and if your high get this down to about 20 pg/ml. I use Arimidex to keep mine down we cut the 1mg pill into 1/4 parts and most only need 1/4 .25 mgs every 2 to 3 days. When you test this post them if your very high over 50 you need more then .25 mgs. If you still test low for Testosterone you might need 10 grams of gel. My Thyroid problem makes my skin to thick so gels don't get through my skin you need to keep checking this until your more leveled. Here is a link to a forum that is closed but full of good info about Hypopituitary problems and full of good links and testing. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewforum.php?f=12 If and when you have time you need to read my story and the heart update. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=5 & t=9239 I know this is a lot to take in but if you do testing and treat hormones that are low even low but in rage your going to feel fine. Once your leveled off you will get your energy back and lose weight. Guest guest
My experience with Androgel was positive.  I say 'was " because I switched to shots because of the cost of Androgel. Obvioulsy you will need follow-up blood work to see if the dosage you are using (probably 5G/day is what I'm guessing you are using) is enough. As for the time-to-benefit; it was pretty much immediate for me.  I started feeling better the same or next day (I don't remember exactly). If you aren't feeling better after a day or two, my guess is that you aren't absorbing it well, that the dosage needs to be higher, or both. If this is the case (if you aren't feeling better by now), I suggest you call your doctor and him/her what's happening. They can incraese the dose arbitrarily or run blood tests to confirm what is happening and incraese the dose if needed. My doctor ran some hormone tests recently because I informed him I was feeling like half the man I used to be. I'm only 30 and my Testosterone levels were 116. I was put on the patch first but it left welts on my skin that lasted well over two weeks. Next up was androgel. I have been on the goo for less than a week. My question is to other androgel users. How fast did you see results and what results did you find. I am newly married and have zero libido. Also i have gained a significant amount of weight in the past 15 months. My doctor attributes this to hypopituitary. It wasn't just my testosterone levels that took a dump. Will TST help to get my boyish figure back. Just looking for others on androgel. Thanks... Guest guest
Wow... Thank you. I never expected such a response. My doctor did run an MRI on my pituitary and it came back with no tumor. He thinks there is a chance I have neurosarcoidosis. Chest X-rays came back negative for the granulomas that he figured would indicate I had this disease. As far as other hormones levels, my cortisol was the only one that was normal. HGH was just as low as my testosterone. thyroid was running hypo as well. I think my doctor is using me as a test subject because he can't figure out why my pituitary is hypo. I'm printing out your response so I can ask my doctor a few of the questions you raised. I've been on the gel for a week and i don't wake up with the morning wood i miss so much. I'm thinking because of my weight gain the testosterone isn't sinking in. Then again it could have to do with other hormones as well. I'll be sure to ask about my estradiol levels. Thanks again. > > > From: joshua <cowan_j2002@...> > > Subject: Androgel Results... > > > > Date: Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 7:01 PM > > Hello all. Name is Josh and I'm > > brand new to the group. Guest guest
Thank you Bill. I will be talking to my doctor about dosage and the type of therapy we are going to use. The patch was garbage. The gel isn't working even close to what your saying your results are. I also like to work out in the morning and now feel like I can't because I have to let the T sit on my skin without being interrupted. I am going to beg for the shot. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
Josh, I rubbed it in, I didn't let it sit on my skin. I don't think you're supposed to let it sit in your skin; that seems illogical to me. Guest guest
With Androgel I was rubbing it in until the drug rep. at my Dr.'s told me not to do this he said just spread it around good but let it dry from web. Dr. says if you did not spread it over a big enough area it will look like frost on your skin. My levels doing this were higher then I switched to Testim when it came out with this I am told you need to rub it in well I had high levels on Testim. Guest guest
Hmmm.. interesting. If I ever use Androgel again (if I get insurance), I'll use your technique. Guest guest
Are you guys aware that you can get testosterone cream or gel compounded for WAY cheaper than Androgel/Testim? You can also order a stronger concentration so you don't need to slather your entire body. Women's Intl Pharmacy charges $50+ for a month's supply of the cream, and our insurance reimbursed us half. That was for 25 mg/g; some of you would need a higher concentration and would be charged more accordingly.
