Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm 27 just diagnosed with low t. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to find the cause. Doctors seem to think it's stress I really don't think it is. I have been on androgel for three weeks and I am still very depressed. Are there and men on his forum who are my age who may have some insight into what might be causing my low t? They did the standard secondary hypogonadism bloodwork and my MRI was negative. Also blood test for celiac was negative and no HIV. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shaun.
Guest guest
Hey Shaun, I'm 25 and have low testosterone..I'm sure it has been low for a long time too. Have you ever had any head injuries (concussions, etc)? Ever use drugs for an extended period of time (6+ months--marijuana, opiates, stimulants)? From what I've heard, these are some of the more common reasons for younger guys. > > Hi everyone, > I'm 27 just diagnosed with low t. Guest guest
Hi Shaun Some people have more energy on testosterone, but some don't. Make sure your total testosterone is above 500 nanograms (and below 1000) Sometimes we have depression that needs to be addressed and that cannot be lifted even with testosterone. Have you gone through loss in the past few months? Sometimes we are unaware that we are grieving about something. Unresolved grieving can make us tired and depressed. Sleep apnea can also affect energy levels and eventually make people depressed. A study also showed that sleep apnea can lower testosterone blood levels. Guys that are depressed and tired sometimes also take antidepressants like Wellbutrin or even ADHD drugs like Ritalyn or Adderral. Only a good psychiatrist can find out what is good for you in this regard. I have taken all of those with some success during episodes of horrible fatigue and depression that did not respond to testosterone. Have you also had your thyroid and estradiol checked? Low thyroid function can make people tired and depressed. Anyway, there are many factors that can cause depression and fatigue. I wish it was that simple to just start testosterone and make everything better, but we need to be aware that there are way too many cofounding factors that may make us feel like we are not getting any benefit from this hormone. Guest guest
Has your thyroid been checked out? Free T3 and Free T4, NOT just TSH? Did they run FSH and LH in addition to your total and free testosterone levels? Check cortisol levels and ACTH? > > Hi everyone, > I'm 27 just diagnosed with low t. Guest guest
Shaun if you could get copies of your labs and post them we can see if we can figure this out add in the units and ranges. Now lets talk about getting you to feel better on this Androgel. Some Dr.'s put men on a starter dose of this gel 5 grams and tell them to come back in 8 weeks or longer this is dead wrong. You need to redo your labs 2 weeks after starting on Androgel or Testim so you know it's working. Some men feel better the first week on it then fall back. Read this cut and paste of a file I made about this. ============================== Starting on Androgel or Testim. Yes this happens a lot you start on a low starting dose 5 grams when your brain sees the testosterone in your blood even just a little it slows down even stops sending the LH and FSH message to your testis to make the Testosterone you were making. So lets say your labs for Total T were 350 you add this dose of gel your brain sees this and you lose the base level you had before the gel. Now lets say you need more then 5 grams most do so now all your left with is what the gel is doing so lets say it's doing 200 so you lost 150. The reason you feel good is your levels go up that 200 the gel is doing in the first 2 weeks so your levels go up to 550 in theory. The brain sees this and you fall back. Why can this happen it might be how your putting on the gel with Androgel you need to spread it over your upper arms and shoulders and down your back as far as you can reach this is half of your dose then do the other side. Just spread it over the area but don't rub it in. The other thing is it's not getting through your skin good so you need more. If you have a thyroid problem your skin will become thicker and gels and creams don't get through the skin and you need to switch to shots. I tell men when they go on Gels to retest in 2 weeks because you can end up feeling worse. Most men just need more gel. Dr.'s that tell men to go on 5 grams of gel and come back in 8 to 12 weeks for labs don't know much about the use of gels. Dr.'s that treat a lot of men for low T on gels see this happen and test them again in 2 weeks. When you go to do labs get up and shower that morning go do your labs and then put in the gel after your blood test so you don’t spike up your labs. If you can’t do labs in the morning shower put on the gel but don’t get any gel on the spot they take the blood from. Do your labs about 6 hrs later. Call your Dr. and tell him this and that your not feeling good you were but fell back. Guest guest
I agree with . I haven't been 25 in a while but have low T, low thyroid function and low adrenals. My doc came to the conclusion that I'm probably hypopituitary. Even if you're not, sometimes these endocrine things go together, and you may have another issue like low adrenals which can be caused by stress. Find a good endocrinologist, THEN, find another and get a second opinion. > > Hi Shaun > > Some people have more energy on testosterone, but some don't. > > Make sure your total testosterone is above 500 nanograms (and below 1000) > > Sometimes we have depression that needs to be addressed and that cannot be lifted even with testosterone. > > Have you gone through loss in the past few months?
