Guest guest
I don't know if I believe the link between sugar and T is that direct but I do know this: If you do a google search on " low testosterone insulin resistance " you will find many articles linking insulin resistance to low T and insulin resistance is tied to the spare tire many of us have around our waist. Will getting rid of the spare tire raise T? I don't know but insulin resistance is bad all around. There are some good articles on Dr Mirkin's website about this topic and some good ideas about how to deal with it. I have tried his suggestions and they work. Primarily, avoid anything that causes blood sugar to rise suddenly. IE Sugar, alcohol, white flour etc.. If you have insulin resistance this is much more difficult to do than one thinks but once you make the transition the food cravings go away and the pounds come off. It's worth a try and if your T is marginal perhaps it can make a difference. Even if it does not raise T you will feel better anyways. > > In this month's " Alternatives " health newsletter, Dr. says, " researchers have found that eating sugar cuts a man's level of circulating testosterone significantly. Guest guest
Thanks for the tips. I do have a problem with insulin and really am having a hell of a time losing that tire around the middle. I have proven to myself that sugar, wheat and grains in general really can mess me up. I feel much better when I follow a paleo diet. Guest guest
I just looked at Paleo and its just the ticket but even that won't take the tire away unless you walk uphill for an hour each day. If you add that (or an equivalent) exercise the tire will (slowly) come off. I have done it. It is difficult. I keep cooked veggies (especially beets) in the fridge and whenever get hungry I eat some. Hunger goes away and blood sugar stays steady. Beets are my favorite because they also lower blood pressure. This is well documented. It is hard to measure because blood pressure varies so much but I figure I get 5 to 10 points off my blood pressure by eating beets all the time. I don't even have high blood pressure it's just a bonus for me. Good luck with the Paleo. The concept is right on the money. > > > > In this month's " Alternatives " health newsletter, Dr. says, " researchers have found that eating sugar cuts a man's level of circulating testosterone significantly. Guest guest
There is a link between body fat and reduced testosterone as our aging male bodies tend to convert more of its testosterone to estradiol. The estradiol in turn helps to increase body fat, particularly around the abdomen, further increasing conversion of T. A diet eliminating simple carbohydrates benefit men in many ways. > > Thanks for the tips. I do have a problem with insulin and really am having a hell of a time losing that tire around the middle. Guest guest
Yes. Paleo is good. I've been power walking for years, but only for 30 minutes. Guess I should do the hour. Funny you mentioin beets. I just got some today from the Farmers mkt. Guest guest
First off, there is a reason why they take a standard testosterone level in the morning, because it fluctuates wildly through the day. My lowest test has been 287, my highest 345. this is without drinking a sugary drink before. Something that is missing is what happened the next day to the levels of test. AnD why 2 hours? also, the whole idea that simply eliminating all sugar from your diet in order to reduce the risk of a whole slew of diseases is a generalization, not a fact. An atkin's diet makes a similar link really well. If I didn't have so many food allergies, I could probably do an atkins diet again. I can also tell you that as a pre-diabetic, on the edge of diabetes, that the real problem is things that are highly processed flours, sugars, and starches. Many sugars are ok, just in moderation. Of course, going on testosterone has pulled my blood sugars into the normal ranges. I was going to have to start glucophage if my doctor didn't give me testosterone. Modern medicine loves " fixes " and testosterone replacement therapy is not a fix, it is an adjustment that was figured out by people doing illegal activities. I would also like to point out that if you have untreated low T, and go on a calorie restricted diet, that the body will lower your metabolism and decrease muscle mass. Nothing like a skinny person with %25 body fat., > > In this month's " Alternatives " health newsletter, Dr. says, " researchers have found that eating sugar cuts a man's level of circulating testosterone significantly. Guest guest
I find this hard to believe too. I have low blood sugar and have for a long time. As a result , I cut out all sugar for quite a while. Test was low throughout this time. So basically, I'm the opposite from the diabetic / insulin resistant type, avoided sugar and had no bearing on me whatsoever. > > > From: rjamestemple@... <rjamestemple@...> > > Subject: Testosterone and Blood Sugar > > > > Date: Saturday, February 27, 2010, 12:19 PM > > In this month's " Alternatives " health > > newsletter, Dr. says, " researchers have found > > that eating sugar cuts a man's level of circulating > > testosterone significantly. Guest guest
Phil, Most people's bodies need some carbs to properly metabolize protein. Taking in some complex carbs and a good amount of protein plus exercise and proper rest are the keys to good health, I believe. Do you workout on a regular basis? Since retiring from my job, I've been much more consistent about getting to the gym. Also, I started TRT at the end of summer '09. Looking over my daily gym log, I weighed 200 in early October '09. Presently I weigh 224 @ 5'11 " . Although I have a little more abdominal fat than I'd like, I am much more muscled than I've been in years. I like the way I look. I believe that I look fitter than a lot of fellas do who are half of my 65 years in age. Probably, some of the muscle gain is a result to TRT. For the past three weeks, I have been injecting Testosterone Cyprionate once a week @ 100 mg. For about two months before that I was getting injections at the doctor's office of 300 mg every three weeks. From September through December, I used Androgel @ 5 gr a day. I like the shots better. Do you take anything for sleep? To help with sleep, I take 75 mg of Trazadone each night. It is recommended to take this with some carbs for the best results. This low dose seems to fit the bill for staying asleep all night without feeling groggy in the mornings. I've long had issues with sleeping well. -too many thoughts swirling around my little pea brain tended to keep me from staying asleep through the night. One benefit I've enjoyed is that I no longer need to take an antidepressant since going on TRT. I almost never feel depressed or anxious....I do get anxious feeling the next day if I drink too much alcohol. However, I've cut way back from what I was drinking for the past several years. Do you think this has anything to do with TRT? Anyway, Phil, I really enjoy reading all the posts folks make in this group. Your posts are really very informative and helpful. Although I have not had my " E " levels tested yet. I've monitored this some from what you've written about " morning wood " and sore nipples. When I first started using Androgel, my nipples did become somewhat more sensitive than usual, which is fairly sensitive. As far as them being hard, they've always been that way. With the injections, my nipples are not sore. They are what has been the norm for me. If I had morning wood prior to TRT, I am not aware of it. Now I either wake up with an erection or at least a partial everyday. Years of impotence have probably left a mark on my consciousness regarding perform anxiety and erections. I don't know if adding Arimidex would help with this or not. I found a supplement at GNC that has DIM, Tribulus Terestis, and the trace minerals you've written about. I plan to try this product to see if it ups my libido. Well that's my story today and I am sticking to it! Thanks again for all you do for us guys. You and this group are a godsend! Guest guest
The supplement I purchased today from GNC is called Amidren. It is manufactured by Sera-Pharma Labs in Fairfield, NJ. According to the lable one dose (two tabs) has 11 mg of magnesium, 19 mg of Zinc, 1.5 mg of copper and 1,354 mg of Amidren Hormonal Support Complex, this includes: Tribulus terrestis (standardized to 45% furastanol saponins)(stem and fruit), Fenugreek 4:1 extract (seed), Longjack 20:1 extract (root), chrysin, kudzu root extract (40% isoflavones), DIM (diindolymethane), red clover extract, Avena sativa 10:1 extract, zinc (as zinc aspartate), Pygeum africanum extract (25% total sterol)(bark), stinging nettle leaf 4:1 extract, beta sitosterol, saw palmetto berry extract (90% total sterols & free fatty acids) and Bioperine (black pepper extract). I have no idea if this concoction works or not. Guess I'll be better able to comment on this after I've been on it for awhile. I only purchased a one month supply. > > > > > > > > > > In this month's " Alternatives " health newsletter, Dr. says, " researchers have found that eating sugar cuts a man's level of circulating testosterone significantly.
