Guest guest
Usually they give you a supply of larger needles. It doisn't matter what size as long as they are say double the size you have. If you pull real hard and wait, and wiat, the oil will trickle down. But you have to pull way down on the syringe. I don't bother switching needles, I just use the smaller ones and take my time. Bill From: atlfuzzy@... Date: Mon, 13 Sep 2010 02:44:53 +0000 Subject: needle size/TRT I have been on TRT gels before, and was to begin test cypionate injections today. My doc's assistant phoned in the RX for me, as well as syringes. As caregiver for two cancer patients, I've given many injections of other drugs before, and am not completely ignorant (I hope), but I am not able to draw the liquid into the syringe. The prescription I recieved was for the Testosterone and a pack of 3ml 25g. 1 1/2 inch needles. Those are the only needles provided. Nothing is pulling back into the syringe. I would have assumed what was provided to me would have worked, or been all that I needed. If this is something I am doing wrong, I will feel like an idiot (yes the pull back top is off the vial, and the needle is fully in the liquid, tried holding bottle upside down, pulling back a few times, just a tiny drop will go in). So am I right that 25g will work fine for the injection, but NOT to draw the medicine? I thought I read that the liquid is thick and had to be pulled via a bigger needle. If so, what size should I ask my doc for to draw the liquid? Will I need another RX for other needle size, or can I just go to the pharmacy to get it without prescription? If I need a RX, thats another several days to turn that around, *sigh* Pharmacy closed at this hour, so will have to start next week. Guest guest
Before you insert the needle into the vial, pull out the equivalent amount of your dose of air into the syringe. Insert needle into bottle, push air in, then pull back out. The extra air pressure will help push the solution into your syringe. We were also given 3 ml syringes to start, which ended up WAY too big, since DH's currently doing 28 mg. That is next to impossible to measure on a 3 ml syringe, and looks like nothing. If you switch over to 1 ml syringes, the best combo is BD #329622 which is 1 ml, 25g, 1 " CVS ordered it for me and had it the next day. http://catalog.bd.com/bdCat/viewProduct.doCustomer?productNumber=329622 If you go with a smaller gauge, 26g+, you will have to accept a shorter needle. There is no 1.5 " needle with a 1 ml syringe, but you can do this by buying the different parts and switching detachable needles, etc. You can warm up the vial by holding it for a few minutes; makes it a little less viscous. But DH says that since switching from the 3ml to 1 ml syringe, he doesn't even need to warm it up. You can certainly draw with a smaller gauge needle if you have patience, it comes in drop by drop. Guest guest
You can get the syringes and needles without a prescription - at least I can in Indiana. I buy 1ml syringes with 27gauge, 1/2 " needle. I also buy 22 gauge needles. If you want a needle longer than the 1/2 " 27 guage needle, buy a 25 gauge 1 " needle. Open the syringe and a 22 gauge needle. Take the needle off the syringe and replace it with the 22 gauge. Assuming you are injecting .25 ml: Pull air into the syringe to about .35-.40 ml. Wipe off the top of the vial with alcohol. Insert the needle and push in the air. Draw out more than you need and then push the contents of the syringe (air and fluid) until you reach the .25 ml mark on the syringe and no air in the syringe. Pull the syringe out. Pull the plunger back to bring all the fluid back into the syringe (along with some air). Switch to the needle you want to inject with. Push the plunger until you get all the air out, and shoot yourself. Pull back to make sure don't see any blood and inject. I know you said that you have given shots.. the reason for all the instruction (I assume you already know most of this) is in case someone reads this who needs help and has never injected. When I started I had to find out by trial and error and watching YouTube videos that some guys posted. Guest guest
Yesterday I drew mine with a 29 gage needle because that was the biggest I had left in the house so it can be done but very slow and lots of bubbles to tap out. I have been trying to find the 27 gage but none of my local drugstores have them. I got a box of 30 gage for the hCG. Brett RE: needle size/TRT > > Usually they give you a supply of larger needles. Guest guest
Clint, I didn't like using the 25 gage needles there OK if my wife is here I have her give it to me in the behind but trying to do myself into the leg. Ouch! Smaller may take longer to load but a lot less " Ouch. " When I do mine I find it comes out easier if you over pressure the bottle. That is to inject more air than the liquid you plan to take out. If you get too much air in the bottle it will just burp when you put the need in or out. No harm in that. And yes you do need to do it up side down and I pull the plunger way back as far as you can, more that you want, so it creates a little vacuum in the needle. After you have enough just tap it or thump it to get the bubbles to the top and then push them back into the bottle. Of course make sure the end of the needle in in the liquid. If it is a long one you may have to hold it back some especially when the bottle starts getting low. Guest guest
Hi Clint, I did a google search and found this about GA: " Here in Georgia a prescription is not technically required to purchase syringes, but the wording of the law is so vague that it can be twisted either way. Ultimately, you don't need a prescription to buy syringes, but a pharmacist can refuse to sell them to you if they feel like it. Read more: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/153113#ixzz0zQZY2RMb " Personally, I use luer lock syringes (syringes that the needles screw on/off of), with an 18 gauge 1 " needle. Then I heat it up under hot tap water for 20 seconds (this raises the temperaure to about 96 degrees and makes the liquid thinner. Pfizer has said as long as it is below 106 degrees it will not hurt the medication.) Then I switch to a 25 gauge 1 " needle and inject into my quad. It does not hurt at all. > > I have been on TRT gels before, and was to begin test cypionate injections today. My doc's assistant phoned in the RX for me, as well as syringes. Guest guest
Clint, That is a long needle I use a 27g 1ml. x 1/2 " lg. needle. I pull in air for the amount of my shot then push this air into the vial then I pull the plunger all the way down and just hold it until I get my dose takes a min. or two the oil is very thick and comes out slow and goes into your body slow. I shoot into my thigh. Guest guest
Clint, I used to use 3ml 26g needle/syringes all these days and its takes a couple of minutes to pull the med in and somehow it used to be kind of hurts & painful. Today for the first time I used a 27 g needle that I took off from an insulin syringe and it did not hurt at all. But, I noticed that a small drop of the med came out after the shot. I wanted to ask Phil the same question if I am loosing the med. The length of needle is only 1/2inch. So, Phil: what do you say about loosing the med ? I think its only a small drop or two it doesnt matter but what do you think ? Note: Clint, you may be able to get needles from a local independant pharmacy with out a prescription. Giving a try is bettter. Thanks Joe > > > > I have been on TRT gels before, and was to begin test cypionate injections today. My doc's assistant phoned in the RX for me, as well as syringes. Guest guest
Clint I use 25 gauge 1 1/2 " needles to inject.I am very lean and usually inject in my thigh.Like to give it deep in the muscles.Tried shorter needles but it seemed to seep into the subq tissue and I ate it up faster.I do use a 22 guage needle to pull up the medicine. It will take quite a while pulling it up with the smaller diameter needle. > > I have been on TRT gels before, and was to begin test cypionate injections today.
