Hi Nigel

Thanks again for some useful information. Between you Phil, HAN and others I am

learning every time.

Stool test sound a whole lot less invasive than intestinal biopsies.

That sounds like a major type procedure under full anesthetic. I will seek out

info from our labs here re celiac testing first but good too know there is an

overseas option. What are the common celiac symptoms that might suggest that I

should be suspecting the possibility of celiac? You indicated I think that it

made a big difference for you, in what way?

As for iodine testing/ supplementation I will have to dig a bit deeper first as

I don't want to supplement when the only test I have had so far (urine spot test

for iodine suggests that at least I don't seem to have a deficiency)

Thank you

Kind regards

Wayne

, why would I add another pharmaceutical to the mix? I am now in-range

for SHBG. Now that I got more iron in me I can take less thyroid, 'cause I

actually respond to it. Latest labs:

IGF-1 279 (116-358) Up from 179 two separate times. I take lots of zinc now,

which dramatically impacts how well I sleep and feel waking up (GH

connection?!).

DHEA 296 (31-701)

DHEA-S 101.4 (211-492) 30 mg transdermal DHEA, split 15 mg twice a day (took

last 15 mg DHEA close to bedtime before doing labs in the morning)

Pregnenolone 89 ng/dL (<151) wasn't on pregnenolone at the time

SHBG 47.3 (14.5-48.4)

Estradiol, sensitive 11 (3-70)

25-OH vitamin D 194.4 (32-100) gonna lower D3 dose! lol

FT4 1.28 (.82-1.77)

FT3 4.3 (2-4.4)

RT3 242 (90-350)

Ratio 17.7

Ferritin 90

Iron 127 (40-155)

TIBC 355 (250-450)

UIBC 228 (150-375)

Saturation 36 % (15-55)

Still taking iron as it makes me feel better, use thyroid better and I've

got the capacity for more. I didn't taken any iron for almost a week before

testing.

On 3 grains Nature-Throid and 25 mcg T3 (Paddock, USA generic) sublingual,

split into two doses. I take a couple grams vitamin C and a Candex capsule

(had cellulase enzyme to destroy cellulose) with each of my two doses. Last

thyroid dose was taken 22 hours before testing.

I don't believe I had my estradiol too low. I actually hadn't taken any

anastrozole within a good few days of testing and had thrown in some DIM to

get me by (which didn't do that much) and had felt too high, actually. I go

by symptoms and wood anyway.

I do take nettle root drops due to having higher SHBG. I believe those work

by leaving SHBG level the same and by binding to SHBG in place of estrogens

and androgens that would normally be bound to it. They seem to work to some

extent as I feel like a bunch of testosterone and DHT gets dumped into my

blood soon after taking the nettle root and I also need to suppress

excessive estradiol more intensively. They also help with urinary symptoms

as I was loosing my ability to hold that much urine, especially by last year

with a lot of SHBG on high thyroid dose. Now roadtrips aren't such a

problem!

people have that have prostate issues have higher shbg levels as it binds with

dht more then testosterone or estrodial. I be using nettles 1000 mgs a day then

remeasure your shbg levels.

tD dhea needs to be measure in urine. it will reduce serums because it gets

converted to other things not directly dhea-s in the blood.

Mine went down to 80 LOL

Need to look at vitamin a: vitamin D ratio of 10:1

beta carotene is not the same. I got warts because of my multiviamin has 15,000

by since we can not convert was causing immune issues. People are doing them

selfs more harm. Going to try to increae to 100,000 ius a day for a month as MD

suggested.

By doing this it should help thyroid and immune system

Wayne, this list is bang on for a lot of things to look for if you've got

Celiac:

http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=15 & t=12332

Here's my list of improvements:

My acne finally went away that I'd had since I was aged 8 or so (I still can

get one spot on the face here and there, but that's nothing).

I'm not constipated and feel like I generally void all I'm supposed to with

a bowel movement. Before I'd have a bowel movement only to have cramping

till the next bowel movement, which would just restart the whole agony

again.

I can now eat dairy with no bowel discomfort (but don't expect me to

tolerate plain milk in high quantities yet).

Acid reflux is almost nonexistent now, although I had more from hypo as

well.

I also absorb my supplements and food so much better as they're not running

through me. Spicy foods don't burn my behind either on the way out!

I have way less flatulence now.

Stools don't float or look green, although those two things were rare when I

was eating gluten.

I personally believe gluten assisted in the destruction of my thyroid gland

and may have contributed to having such messed up adrenals at a very young

age.

Hi Nigel

Thanks for that. I read the article and it is interesting. I can't really say

yes to many of those symptoms. Possibly 1 or 2, maybe?

I will probably have another blood test at some time just for ressurance. But I

have saved the list for future reference just in case I have cause to revisit

this possibility.

With my fairly clean diet as it is now I don't think I actually would consume

very much gluten anyhow but definitely there would be some.

I actually thought I would have a quick look at a couple of lists of foods with

gluten content. before posting this.

I was surprised to see the only one was a SPELT curried lentil pie I eat and

maybe the Heinz BAKED BEANS with no added salt might contain some in the tomato

sauce, maybe.

I am actually going to have that spelt pie with salad tonight and will take

particular notice of how I feel afterwards.

It would be very easy for me to be 100% gluten free if I needed to be instead of

the 98% I currently am.

Kind regards

Wayne

Not sure about my supplements though???

This increase in progesterone production results in progesterone deficincy.

Again t3 status is a major indicate in stroke and mortaility rate.

Hi Barb

That is a very interesting post, thank you.

As you may recall I was one of those from the RT3 forum.

I have never been on any medication at all until I started Tertroxin T3 only on

29th September 2010.

My original labs before starting T3 only were

TSH 0.9 (0.4 - 4.0)

FT4 19 (10 - 20)

FT3 4.8 (2.8 - 6.8)

ATGab 42 <60

ATPab 43 <60

RT3 540 (170 - 450)

Ok so the problem was too much FT4 converting to RT3 instead of to FT3

I started on T3 only at 20 mcg p/d in split doses and worked my way up to 40mcg

in split doses until Jan 14th when I decided to wean myself off T3 and address

the underlining cause. Thanks to all here for contributing to that decision.

Prior to then I was already unsure that I was doing the right thing with T3

which is why I did not push to the higher dose which was recommended that most

people get to. Just playing it safe I guess.

My last labs in mid December at about 10 weeks were

TSH 0.07 (0.4 - 4.0)

FT4 11 (10 - 20)

FT3 6.8 (2.8 - 6.8)

I have not remeasured RT3 or the antibodies as yet.

These labs bear out what you advised, not just as radical but certainly would

have been if my dose had been higher and or a longer period of time.

As a footnote my BPs are a little low but that is because of my low aldosterone

I think.

Hope that helps Marc as well.

Hi Nigel

Just for the record I ate that spelt pie last night with no adverse effects

noted over the next 24 hours. In fact I felt pretty damn good.

Don't know if this proves anything though as I came across this today.

Re Celiac Disease different forms

Classic Form Symptomatic intestinal malabsorption. Chronic diarrhea, abdominal

pain, abdominal distention, weight loss, and flatulence may occur.

Atypical Form Occasional diagnosis, histological or serological, in asymptomatic

individuals.

Silent Form Patients with previous CD diagnosis who responded to gluten-free

diet and presented a normal histology or only intraepithelial lymphocytes

increase.

Latent Form Absence or few gastrointestinal symptoms, presence of a typical

symptoms, such as anemia due to iron deficiency, osteoporosis or osteopenia,

infertility, low stature. lt is the most common presentation.

Individuals with normal intestinal mucosa, underdiet including gluten, who will

subsequently develop CD.

Refractory Form Patients with CD who do not respond to gluten-free diet

HiPhil

I just stumbled across this which says the Natures Way DIMPlus that I am taking

is Indolplex just by another name. Both are same as the Pure Rip that you are

taking.

QUOTE (from Earthdog's e-mail received from BioResponse):

We license our trademarks including the names Indolplex , BioDIM, DIM, DIM-Plus,

DIM Pro to different companies. They sell the identical product. You can tell on

bottles if it is our patented formulation if it says, " licensed by BioResponse

LLC. " ... Tyler/Enzymatic Therapy for instance sells Indolplex with capsules that

each contains 15 mgs of the active ingredient (contained in 60mg formulated

product). The patented formulation contains a minimum of 25% of the active in

the formulation... (Nature's Ways product) Dim-Plus contains 50mg per capsule, a

third less per capsule than ours... We sell directly to individuals, capsules

that have 150mg per capsule (37.5mg active diindolylmethane) or more than twice

the amount per cap compared to Indolplex... We sell under our name BioResponse

DIM... "

END QUOTE

This now means I am now not that confident that my E2 will be lowered with

DIMPlus as I actually took both Indolplex and Estro Sense back in 2009 with no

success. The 4 caps of DIMPlus I am taking now delivers a lower dose than what I

took in 2009 so we will see. Maybe I need to increase the dose to 6 or 8 P/D

I have not used DIM for some yrs now when I did use it there was no BioResponse

LLC. If your DIM was on said to be Indolplex/DIM right on the bottle and from

what I have been told it only comes in tables and this is good you can cut them

in half.

I have posted about the use of Indolplex/DIM for yrs. And every time some one

posted back to me that it did not work it was the BioResponse LLC they were

using in caps. I would tell them the same thing I told you try this with oil it

might work. The oil gets it passed your stomach so it does not get killed.

They might say BioResponse LLC is the same as Indolplex but if this were true

why is it men posting to me using BioResponse LLC that it's not working.

I have been down this road talked this into the ground if you want to use it.

Go for it I am just telling men what I know works.

Perhaps is taking about desiccated liver tablets. Those are another

way to raise ferritin as there's lots of heme iron in them.

I've tried NOW Foods liver powder. It wasn't too bad to get down, but did

constipate me. I'll stick with the iron tablets for now.

By the way, milk thistle is said to LOWER iron stores here:

http://www.acu-cell.com/femn.html

" On the other hand, taking higher amounts of Milk Thistle will in time

decrease manganese and iron stores, which can be an advantage with

hemochromatosis (excess iron storage disease), where regular consumption of

milk thistle, RNA / DNA, magnesium and Vitamin B2 - as individually matched

- will return iron levels closer to normal, and frequently eliminate the

need for phlebotomies. "

Wayne, unfortunately you can't rely on how you react to eating gluten if you

still occasionally eat it. Many don't notice any difference.

6 weeks minimum off gluten 100% is what's suggested to then see if there's

positive improvement. If there is, then continuing it eat gluten-free would

be the way to go.

Right, some don't manifest many or any gut symptoms. If you're unsure about

all this, then you may want to look into further testing. It's just that the

trial diet can be so convincing when ones start to have symptoms disappear.

Thanks Nigel I need to digest all of that now...so to speak.

I guess my next step would be to actually identify what if any symptoms I have,

record them and go from there.

Looks like it is only the spelt pie and maybe the baked beans sauce that have

gluten but is there anything sneaky I should look out for?

I am having a set of blood tests soon is is worth adding in the celiac test

again?

Kind regards

Wayne, medications and supplements can have gluten in them. You can usually

Google the meds to see if the manufacturer says it's gluten-free or if

others have called the company to verify and posted this on a forum. Other

times you can at least find what the inactive ingredients are and see if any

ingredients are potentially a source of gluten (there are lists of safe and

unsafe ingredients on celiac sites). Good supplement companies label what

allergens are not to be found in their products.

Maybe I already posted it, but here's a very comprehensive list of things to

do to go gluten-free:

http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=15 & t=12054

Do you know the specific celiac blood tests you had done before?

Wayne, tissue transglutaminase (tTG) antibodies is another one that's

comonly on the celiac blood testing panels that you could add.
