Guest guest
I am 35 years old, obese (although I have lost 120 ponds and counting), I have elevated BP around 140/80 range, low cholesterol normal blood sugar and I have been taking Tae Kwon Do classes for 6 months so I am fairly active. I have had a steadily increasing problem with ED going back 7-8 years to the point that I had lost almost all function. After the weigt loss I have regained some function but not the desire. I recently had a blood test that revealed the following: Testosterone, Serum >3 ng/dl normal range 280 - 800 My doctor said that women produce more testosterone than this and prescribed Androgel that I will get on Monday. I am looking for any advice or tips that anyone can offer me. I am not on any other meds.
Guest guest
Hi bear and Welcome, Before you try that Androgel did your Dr. test you to see why your this low. I must say I never seen a man this low but if your go on any kind of Testosterone meds with out knowing why your low you might not ever know. Going on Testosterone meds will shut down your body from making it yet your not making much if them labs are good. I would need to see your Total Testosterone, Estradiol, SHBG, LH and FSH. If he ran them tests and found your Estradiol is good at 20 pg/ml not higher then 30 with your LH and FSH very low you need an MRI done on your Pituitary Gland in your brain this is what tells your body to make hormones you need this to rule out a tumor don't be upset with what I am saying they are rare to be cancer. If your MRI is good then this could be from other things like a head injury. This is called Secondary. Now if your Estradiol is good with very high levels of LH and FSH this tells me your are Primary and your Testis are not working you need then to see an Uro and be checked out for an infection or even cancer of the testis. Also there are many things that can lower your T levels Stress, fatty Liver, an Infection, bad Thyroid with low Cortisol levels the list is long. Like I said if your go on Testosterone meds without knowing why you will not be able to find out why. If you have a problem and can fix it your Testosterone levels might go back up on there own going on TRT is for life. http://www.aace.com/pub/pdf/guidelines/hypogonadism.pdf Co-Moderator Phil > From: bear19751975 <bear19751975@...> > Subject: Results are in and my testosterone level is >3 > > Date: Saturday, December 11, 2010, 1:21 PM > I am 35 years old, obese (although I > have lost 120 ponds and counting), I have elevated BP around > 140/80 range, low cholesterol normal blood sugar and I have > been taking Tae Kwon Do classes for 6 months so I am fairly > active. Guest guest
I forgot to check back and I only saw your message today. I have been taking the Androgel for a week and a half. If I were to stop the gel could I then figure out why this has happened? I have the labs my doc did in hand and the only tetstosterone tests he did are the ones I listed previously. Should I go back to doc or just go see a uro? Thanks for your help, I feel a little lost. > > > From: bear19751975 <bear19751975@...> > > Subject: Results are in and my testosterone level is >3 > > > > Date: Saturday, December 11, 2010, 1:21 PM > > I am 35 years old, obese (although I > > have lost 120 ponds and counting), I have elevated BP around > > 140/80 range, low cholesterol normal blood sugar and I have > > been taking Tae Kwon Do classes for 6 months so I am fairly > > active. Guest guest
At 35 I am shocked that your doc didn't do anymore tests than a basic T level. Like Phil said,....many things can cause this. I am 49 but my levels are way higher than yours, as in the 350 area last time around. I am working with a 'functional medicine' doc to try and get mine up without going on TRT first. As Phil said, my E2 levels are high, and I have a slightly low thyroid. Going to try and correct this first, and then re-test my T levels. Hang around,.....you will get a lot of good advice here. Unfortunately I am not experienced enough to tell you what to do since you have started. Just guessing, I would tend to think you are primary, or you have some serious issues going on to have T that low at 35. Good luck! > > I forgot to check back and I only saw your message today. Guest guest
I don't feel you would have a problem stopping but a small amount of men have had a problem. This is why I feel you need to check with your Dr. before stopping it. And I feel you should your levels were in the 600's right this is not bad with high Estradiol and like I said getting this down will bring up your Free T levels and can bring up in time your TT levels. I you want to chance it stop but what if you feel like crap it's the Holiday's. Don't worry about this coming off TRT in this short time you should go back to where you were then work on the Estradiol levels then in about 8 weeks redo labs but do the labs that Dr. talks about at his site www.allthingsmale.com read TRT: A Recipe for Success in this are the labs you needed and why. Guest guest
Thank you for the quick response. I will wait until I speak to my doctor on Monday to stop but it shouldn't bother me as the only difference I feel is that I gained weight while exercising and continuing the Atkins diet that allowed me to lose 120 #'s. I will reply agsin when I have more info. > > > > > > > From: bear19751975 <bear19751975@> > > > > Subject: Results are in and my > > testosterone level is >3 > > > > > > > > Date: Saturday, December 11, 2010, 1:21 PM > > > > I am 35 years old, obese (although I > > > > have lost 120 ponds and counting), I have > > elevated BP around > > > > 140/80 range, low cholesterol normal blood sugar > > and I have > > > > been taking Tae Kwon Do classes for 6 months so I > > am fairly > > > > active. Guest guest
I spoke to my doctor this week and he said that he ruled out a primary cause because I was able to impregnate my wife 17 years ago. He says that I should wait 6 weeks and have another blood test and then we can re-evaluate my situation. Does that sound right? > > > > > > > From: bear19751975 <bear19751975@> > > > > Subject: Results are in and my > > testosterone level is >3 > > > > > > > > Date: Saturday, December 11, 2010, 1:21 PM > > > > I am 35 years old, obese (although I > > > > have lost 120 ponds and counting), I have > > elevated BP around > > > > 140/80 range, low cholesterol normal blood sugar > > and I have > > > > been taking Tae Kwon Do classes for 6 months so I > > am fairly > > > > active. Guest guest
No this sounds to me like he does not under stand about low Testosterone in men. What would your making a baby 17 yrs ago have to do with you not being Primary your tested might have worked dam good then but now a lot can go wrong in 17 yrs. Are you still on the Gel if so how are you feeling if better you might as well stay on it. But don't wait 6 more weeks to do labs. If your feeling better and fall back you need to do labs like after your on this 2 weeks to be sure it's working. For some men it dose not get through there skin and they don't get good levels. As for finding out why your low you can try a Clomid or HCG Stim. test later. This will show you if your Testis work or not. Clomid will tell your brain to send more LH and FSH to your testis if your levels go up it can mean your Pituitary is not working and telling your testis to work. Same with HCG this acts like LH and will tell your Testis to make more T if they don't your Testis are not working and your Primary. If this happens you need to have them check out by an Uro.
