Guest guest
Years ago when I was posting at WebMD a guy posted to the Uro there that after he had a Vasectomy his Testosterone levels fell very low. He said his Family Dr. just told him he need testosterone meds and would not look into why he was low. He said he read on the Web going on TRT is for life and he was sure it was the Vasectomy that did this but his Uro told him it's not possible. Long story shot the Uro told him to get a test and grow a culture on it looking for a type of infection that needs a special Antibiotic to treat it. Turns out it was this infection and after treating it his Testosterone levels came back up. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply Sky, and sorry for the delay - this board is so busy, I just spotted this one!! ...When first diagnosed hypothyroid (1985), TSH was so high that the thyroid was judged 'completely disfunctional'. Uptake-and-Scan led to 'multi-nodular' characterization. Plenty of blood tests, etc., but no other complications identified. ...Docs prescribed synthroid, l-thyroxin, levoxyl and now levothyroxin (generic) ever since - all of which have adquately controlled the TSH reading to mid-range. Dosage has fluctuated a little as my weight has. After 35 years, I've never felt better. ...A subsequent uptake-and-scan (~1998), and a few other more exhaustive blood tests over the years have yielded no additional cause for concern. ...The useless thyroid gland will only be removed if deemed cancerous. ...Some of the symptoms I was aware of during the year before treatment included: uncomfortably chilly all of the time (wore sweater in the summer), puffy hands and face, inexplicably grouchy (quick to fly off-the-handle), hair loss, dry skin, and tired (sleepy) throughout the day (slower metabolism) - even after a good night's sleep. ...Each of these were, and continue to be, alleviated by the daily pill. ......................................... ...Whatever causes diabetes II and hypogonadism is most certainly unrelated to this (will have LH, estradiol, and FSH tested in May - they were all 'okay' previously), but it seems quite coincidental that so many hormones in the same body, which most folks are able to ignore, have gone haywire. CT scan showed no pituitary abnormality. ...Currently on several cardiac meds too, so it'll be a struggle to get some of the docs to agree to simultaneous treatment of the hypo-g condition anyway (because of the interaction concern). > > What meds are you on for your thyroid? > > Sky > > Â > > > > ________________________________ > From: L <lindav1950@...> > > Sent: Sat, 13 February, 2010 1:56:00 AM > Subject: Vasectomy a Factor?? > > Â > ..I..When diagnosed hypothyroid at 35, it was concluded that high-dose raditation from x-rays of the throat (tonsils) in the '50s must've been the cause. Guest guest
L Have you had your cortisol levels checked most of the people on T4 only meds end up low and we need cortisol to carry the Thyroid hormones out of the blood into the cells if your low your not going to get them into the cells and it will build up in your blood. Most of the people I take to about Thyroid at my forum have bad dam bad stories about T4 only meds they were on. When they switched to natural dessicated thyroid like the old Armour we can't get anymore they felt better after yrs. thinking this is the best it will get. My wife was one of them on Synthroid for 15 yrs seeing Endo's one after the other all ways being told your levels are fine and all they tested was TSH you can't tell if someone is doing good on meds testing just TSH this is only the message that tells the thyroid to make more hormones. Read the stories at these sites. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://personal.lig.bellsouth.net/w/u/wurmstei/ Some men when they get there TT3,TT4,FT3,FT4 levels up into or past the mid range find there Testosterone levels come backup. Also check RT3. http://thyroid-rt3.com/ Endo's and Dr.'s that only know about Thyroid do to what the drug reps tell them keep pushing T4 only meds on people and will not try natural dessicated thyroid. " Why " it might be because the Drug Co.'s can get a patten on them they are made for pig thyroids. Read this link about Adrenals and Thyroid. http://livingnetwork.co.za/hormones/adrenal-fatigue/ Most of us now use this because we can't get Armour. http://www.universaldrugstore.com/medications/Thyroid/60mg Co-Moderator Phil > From: L <lindav1950@...> > Subject: Re: Vasectomy a Factor?? > > Date: Monday, February 15, 2010, 6:38 PM > Thanks for the reply Sky, and sorry > for the delay - this board is so busy, I just spotted this > one!! > ..When first diagnosed hypothyroid (1985), TSH was so high > that the thyroid was judged 'completely disfunctional'. > Uptake-and-Scan led to 'multi-nodular' characterization. > Plenty of blood tests, etc., but no other complications > identified. > ..Docs prescribed synthroid, l-thyroxin, levoxyl and now > levothyroxin (generic) ever since - all of which have > adquately controlled the TSH reading to mid-range.
