Guest guest
I have leg and foot cramps a lot.No weakness though.Just had some labs drawn.Actually potassium was on the high side.BUN and hematocrit was elevated which indicate dehydration.Seems like I am drinking water all the time but two lab checks don't lie.Have really pushed my water intake and cramps have subsided.See those football players who cramp up early in the season. They are young and healthy and potassium levels are probably perfect. They dehydrate in the heat and cramp up.Next time you do labs, have a BUN drawn, blood urea nitrogen, should be 10-20.Much over that and you are dehydrated. Phil > > I am having a lot of pain and my legs are very weak. I take a lot of water pills and think it's my Potassium levels doing this. I got some Pill 550 mgs but looking at the pills my Heart Dr. had me on when I got out of the hosp. from heart surgery they had me on what looks like 20 mgs. > > Any way I hope taking this helps I can't stand for very long and walking is not so bad but hurts. Guest guest
Was your potassium actually low or did he just speculate? Hydration will help cramps but leg pain is a different issue. Also have you considered slo niacin to improve lipids. An old drug that is effective.A baby aspirin taken 30 mins before taking niacin will blunt the flush you feel.No profit in it so we have statins, which IMO are very questionable if not dangerous.I don't have leg pain, only night cramps, so exercise and walking is not a problem. My feet hurt when I was obese but now I have no pain. Can't emphazize enough how getting excess weight off has made be feel so much better.Wishing that leg pain leaves you. Guest guest
Better be careful with potassium supplements when on a lot of heart meds. You are far better off getting it from natural sources like bananas, etc.
Guest guest
I was up most of the night in pain my back and legs hurt bad. My wife is begging me to stop the Growth Hormone she says that I have been going down hill sense starting on it. The Heart Dr. scared her when he was telling me I need to walk or I will end up in a wheel chair. I can't see how GH can cause this pain yesterday morning I felt better and did what the Dr. said I walked around the house every time I got up to go to the bathroom or eat. I think something in my back is pinching a nerve and doing this to my legs. The pain is the worst just standing still not moving. I stopped the GH but I can't see how GH can cause back and leg pain. > > > From: marc200134470 <cfs38@...> > > Subject: Re: low potassium and leg pain. > > > > Date: Saturday, September 4, 2010, 3:33 PM > > Better be careful with potassium > > supplements when on a lot of heart meds. > > > > You are far better off getting it from natural sources like > > bananas, etc. > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > >
Guest guest
Listen to your wife, if she says you started going downhill only since starting the GH, then it could be the culprit. We see you everyday and know what's normal and isn't. I know not everyone can take GH. I had sciatica and the pain was worst going from a sitting to standing position. Once standing and walking, no problem. You should have a sharp, shooting pain running from the middle of your butt down through your leg. And you feel the pain actually move down in an instant, because it is traveling along a nerve. Low thyroid can cause aching back and joints, worse in morning, and then better as the day goes on. It's from poor circulation while sleeping. High rT3 will give the same effect as hypo. Have you tried physical therapy? I was extremely fortunate that one pred pack plus physical therapy got rid of the sciatic pain for me. Barb > > I was up most of the night in pain my back and legs hurt bad. Guest guest
Phil check one of these out for your bad back. A friend of mine has had one for years, and swears it has saved him from surgery. Thinking of getting one myself. http://www.a3bs.com/lumbar-home-traction-devices/comfortrac-lumbar-traction-devi\ ce-w53115l,p_863_918_1005_1071_15713.html?jkId=8a8ae4cc29dc2ada0129ece33b3837ef & \ jt=1 & jadid=5686859287 & js=1 & jk=ComforTrac & jsid=12097 & jmt=1 & & gclid=CJv_ht2t86MCFc5\ i2god8xZ31w
Guest guest
> > Thanks marc I saved this will show it to my Dr. > Co-Moderator > Phil No problem Phil,.....you can find them without a scrip needed. I just pulled up the first one I could find. My friend researched all of the home traction methods, and decided this was the gentlest as he has some other health issues, plus is too large to even think about hanging upside down. His doc agreed and I think he actually got his insurance to cover a good amount of the cost,.....I would have to ask him to be sure. I used to have an inversion table, but I sold it to my chiropractor as it is not recommended that folks with hypertension hang upside down. It also started to hurt my back more than it helped. I HAVE tried his, and the good thing about these is you can do very gentle traction to start out, and work your way up. Once again he swears by it. Obviously look for the best price should you decide to get one.
Guest guest
My answer to everything: did you know low thyroid causes that? > > I have had a bunch of night leg cramps recently... seems that how I move my > legs at night would effect them somehow. Guest guest
Yes Phil, This was and can be my most severe symptom of low cortisol... especially at night....if I do not take a small dose before bed then I will awake with in an hour with leg pain... When I first started on HC I had to take it every three hours or the pain returned...once my body built up some reserves then the time between doses lengthened. Minerals and potassium had no effect on this symptom....belive me I tried it all. If you get too dehydrated, a state I can get into due to high blood glucose then it will do better to drink gatoraid or pedialyte the baby stuff...it works really well...I have not had to get rehydrated in the hospital for a more than a few years. The fact that statins cause so many problems muscle and joints aches it is hard to know if it is related... So the GH can be causing this in that most people need to increase their thyroid and HC after they start growth hormone.... My husband said recently that he has trouble separating the E2 symptoms form his low cortisol symptoms...of course you have had a lot more time to sort your symptoms out....but HC can be tricky...
