Re: Low free high total (Warfarin!)

Having looked into possible side effects of both Arimidex and DIM a bit more

today, I am now uncertain whether I could safely take either product in light of

being on warfarin (coumadin).  Whilst most DIM websites warn that people on

anti-coagulants should 'consult a doctor', I did read something earlier (can't

locate it now!) which said something like 'people on warfarin should avoid DIM

or be closely monitored while on it'... which at least suggests that with a

haematologist who knows what they are doing, I could possibly use it.

As for Arimidex, I found some stuff, including this link which suggests that

blood clots are more common when taking this medicine.  Despite other stuff

saying that warfarin and arimidex don't interact, this is obviously a bit dodgy

for someone like me with a history of blood clots.

http://stason.org/TULARC/health/virtual-drugstore/cancer/anastrozole.html

I realize I'm going round in circles a bit at the moment, but I'm seeing a

doctor on Friday and will ask them about this situation and also ask to be

referred to a haematologist.  I saw my endo today and DIM was something new to

him, Arimidex 'something expensive which I tried with one guy a couple of years

ago and it didn't really work'.  His expertise lies elsewhere I think.  In

light

of new worries about arimidex, I didn't try to push for any meds at this

stage...

Does anybody else have any experience of being on warfarin and either of these

two meds?

When you see your Endo ask for the generic to Arimidex (Anastrozole).

it is far less money.

Yes after my heat bypass Surgery I was on coumadin and Arimidex. You need to

understand Arimidex is very strong if your not on TRT and need to lower your

Estradiol E2 levels. Your not going to see the problems women have had taking

1mg. / day men like you might only need 1/4 of the pill every 5 to 7 days not on

TRT that is .25 mgs. And this even keeps the cost down. Plus there is a Generic

(Anastrozole) out for Arimidex that has a lot less cost.

When I was in the ICU after the surgery I was on coumadin the wire to hold my

sternum (breastbone)together got infected and they needed to open me up again

take out the wire and leave me open until the coumadin was out of my body. So

they put me in a coma. I cold not be moved in the coma and when the coumadin

was out of my body they tired the wire again put me back on coumadin and closed

me up. Well it got infected again so they need to repeat the process. I long

story short I had to be opened up 5 x's they tired putting a plate in with

screws to hold my sternum together but one of the screws went into a vessel and

I was bleeding big time so they had to open me up again this time when the

coumadin was out of my body the pulled my Chest muscles over my sternum to hold

it together.

I died 5x's 3 of witch I came back on my own the other two they had to use the

paddles on me and shock me back. I was in out and out of the coma 13 weeks.

All this time I was on .25 mgs of Arimidex to keep my Estraidol levels down

every 3 days.

I am telling this long story because it was the dumb a** heart surgeon taking me

off TRT thinking in his GOD like mind being on Testosterone meds would not work

with this surgery.

It was talked about with my Heart Dr. before he turned me over to the Heart

Surgeon not to take me off TRT. This dam near killed me so if your every need

surgery don't let them take you off your T meds.

They can stop your TRT the day of your surgery but after that they need to put

you back on it.

I was off TRT 13 weeks in and out of a coma until the first Heart Dr. I seen

came to see how I was doing read my chart and flipped out.

Now my first heart Dr. told me I had blockage due to low Growth Hormones all

them yrs. He said my Cholesterol levels over the last 30 yrs were great.

Yet the Heart Surgeon put me on Cholesterol lowering drugs (Stain Drugs) from

the first week I had pain in my joints and muscles and complained about it. All

them Dr.'s told me Statin Drugs are not doing this to me. I need to exercise

follow a heart smart low fat diet.

Yet the damage the statin drugs were doing to my body exercising was making it

worse. Now today I can't stand up or walk with out a walker. And now that this

happened the dam Dr.'s now say it was the Statin Drugs and know how to treat

this so they say.

Hi guys, and thanks again Phil for all the info.

I had some questions about anastrozole last month, and I've finally got hold of

some after my endo came round to the ideas given here which I relayed to him.

I'd just like to know what you think would be a good starting dose.  The info

you've already given suggests as little as 1/4 of a pill every 3 to 5 days may

be enough for someone (like me) not on TRT - but is this a good level as a

starting dose, or do you need a higher dose to begin with?

The studies I've had a look at in the last couple of days seem to suggest that

at least 1mg every three days is needed to be effective...

http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/89/3/1174)

but as I mentioned before, because I had a blood clot a few years ago and am

on

warfarin, I'd be happier with as low a dose as possible.  No point taking so

little that it's not going to do anything though...

Any ideas?

Sure get a pill cutter cut the one mg. pill in half then stand it on the cut end

and us a single edge razor to cut this in half. Now you your 4 1/4 parts or .25

mgs. Start with 1/4 of a pill every 3 days read the following so you don't go

to low. Keep me posted how your feeling.

==================================================

How To Take Arimdex and not go down on your Estradiol to Low.

What I found is if you go to low taking arimidex, it's the length of time your

to low, if your too low say for 8 weeks it can take your body a longer time to

make more Estradiol. Bottom line is to know how not to go to low. Keep a log on

your dose and how you feel men going to low can't get it up taking Viagra. I

went to low when I first tried Arimidex and did not know about going to low or

how one feels to low, so I was low a good 8 weeks. I did not know I was low

until my next labs.

The best gage I have found to control your Estradiol levels is to gage your

night time and morning wood. At good levels or what I call the sweet spot you

get your night time and morning wood back so strong it will wake you up and you

can hang a coat on it.

Most men do good taking .25 mgs or 1/4 of a 1mg. pill, I use a pill cutter to

cut the small pill in half then I stand it on the cut end and use a single edge

razor to cut this in half. A good way to take arimidex is by how high your

levels are. I tested over 90 pg/ml so we tried doing .5 mgs every other day

after 8 weeks my next set of labs showed it did not move below 90, test said

>90. So we did .5 mgs. every day in about 2 weeks I got some strong night time

and morning wood back after not having them for many yrs.

I kept doing this dose and in 8 weeks my next set of labs said <20 back in the

day labs were like this they did not have to good labs we have today they could

not read lower the 20. My Dr. told me this looks to low to stop taking the

Arimidex. The one thing I noticed was my wood stopped and stopping the Arimidex

my wood came back in about 7 weeks my next test at 8 weeks was 24 pg/ml. So we

went back on the Arimidex but the Dr. told me to take .5 mgs every 3 days I was

on this dose not a week and lost wood. This is when I figured out going to low

you lose wood. And the longer your too low the longer it takes to get levels

back up.

I stopped the arimidex right away and got my wood back in 4 days. I then after

playing with the dose for a time found the best dose is .25mgs every 2 to 3

days.

So lets say your labs are less the 50 pg/ml if your take .5 mgs you can go down

so dam fast your miss the sweet spot of your wood and go to low. It's best with

lower levels 50 and under to do less Arimidex .25mgs every 2 days if later your

lose wood when it comes back go to every 3 days.

I have found estradiol is the hardest hormone to control, it goes up or down

from month to month some times I need .25mgs every 2 days other times I need

..25mgs everyday most of the time I do well on every 3 days.

So between wood and labs I do great and so do most of the men I have told this

to. I keep a log on how much I am taking and how I feel. Doing this and reading

back in my log I was able to tell when I was going to high or to low my Dr. lets

me dose my arimidex by how I feel.

Over the yrs. I have posted this story until I am blue in the face.

Ok, thanks.  I'll start on .25 and see how it goes.

Sure get a pill cutter cut the one mg. pill in half then stand it on the cut end

and us a single edge razor to cut this in half. Now you your 4 1/4 parts or .25

mgs. Start with 1/4 of a pill every 3 days read the following so you don't go to

low. Keep me posted how your feeling.

==================================================
