Guest guest
Now this for me is a problem I was on SIMVASTATIN a generic to Zocor. The first month on 40 mgs I suffered from Joint pain Dr. told me it's from being in a coma 17 weeks not the meds. In the next 60 days it got so bad I could not take it and was asking for pain meds. Dr. lower the dose to 20 mgs it got better but never went away. I have for the last 20 months been trying to get exercise to build my muscles back up and I am good going to the gym for about 5 weeks then I end up off for 3 weeks this has been going on like this and I feel I am not getting any stronger fast enough. Now 4 weeks ago my back and hips started hurting so I stopped taking the simvastatin and in about 2 weeks my pain was all most gone. So I called the Heart Dr. he said I had blockages going to my heart and I need to be on them meds so he switched me to Crestor 5mgs so far no pain. I am going to the gym this morning for the first time in 3 weeks. So what am I to do I am in between a rock and a hard place. Dam if I do and Dammed if I don't. Guest guest
Phil, didn't you say your cholesterol levels were fine? Docs only push statins because the pharmaceutical reps give them studies (done by the pharmaceuticals) that say they're wonderful. It is protocol that anyone who had bypass surgery should be on a statin, but if you ask for concrete proof why? You will not got a logical answer. How would it sound if he said because the pharmaceutical selling it said so. Isn't that a huge conflict of interest? You have to make your own decision of whom to listen to regarding your health. I'm a rebel so have chosen meds like Armour/Erfa and testosterone for hubby, which as most here know, you have to fight for. His problems started when he was put on a beta blocker for high BP and started spiraling downhill. Apparently these induce hypothyroidism in some, because they can cause rT3. He was starting to sleep all the time and getting dumber and dumber and I thought he'd burn the house down if I weren't watching him all the time. So I weaned him off and looked for other answers. I do not trust any pharmaceuticals. Guest guest
Yep I hear you louid and clear but I feel as long as I don't have a problem with the sides from them I will take them. This way I am safe not sorry I am mad about having to be on a beta blocker. In the hosp. they gave me an Ablation they put you under and shock your heat to get it to beat right having open heart bypass surgery they have to stop your heart for a time and when they start it up again some times it needs an Ablation to get it to beat right. My Ablation worked great and they took me off beta blocker meds. But dam if when I was put on the theripy ward they miss read my meds and put me back on it. I was on it about a week when my wife cought this and told them I am off this med. They called the Dr. he got dam mad they did this but off it my heart was beating Ok. Now they let me out of the hosp. give my wife a list of meds I needed and they put the beta blocker back on the dam list but the name was a generic and my wife did not see this. Three months later I see my Heart Dr. and he was mad as hell now I have to take this because coming off it my heart beats to fast. And I can't get an Ablation again. Guest guest
I have a question for Barb. My husband had bypass surgery in 2001. He is taking Metoprolol and Toprol. I am ashamed that I never researched this when he started. Personally, I don't think that he needs either. He will listen to me if I tell him to quit taking them, but I feel like I have to give him something to take their place, ie a natural supplement or vitamin. He has never had high blood pressure. His cholesterol seems to be under control w/Low carb diet. Please, your thoughts. Thanks, Pati (sorry, I know that I'm off topic here) > > Phil, didn't you say your cholesterol levels were fine? Guest guest
Wait, he doesn't have high BP? Then why the beta blockers? They are also used for arrhythmias. Then again, that can be caused by low or high thyroid. I would want to know if there was a medical REASON for the drug, so that you could address the cause or use something natural. I would not stop any pharmaceutical cold turkey; everything should be slowly weaned, but you do need to ask the doc WHY he's on the drugs. > > > > Phil, didn't you say your cholesterol levels were fine? Guest guest
Thanks Barb, No he has NEVER had high blood pressure or any arhythmia. Matter of fact, he had to insist on a cath because he passed his stress test with flying colors. Turned out to be a 90% blockage and ended up w/quad bypass. I think drs just do whatever the drug reps tell them! He is due to go back for his annual check up, I am hoping that he will change doctors. Either way, I will go with him. Guest guest
I feel a stress test is a waste for time and money I had my stress test and nothing showed up my Dr. use a bad picture to get BCBS to approve a 24 bit scan this showed I had 2 blockages when the did the bypass surgery they found both were 99% blocked. Now I am going on 2 yrs and what do they order a stress test aging to check my heart. It's called a " Nuclear Imaging Stress Test " I read this is = to 20 some Xrays. Then the next week I do a 2D Echo test. I feel when it comes to my heart I am stock with what the Dr.'s tell me Drug Reps or not.
