Guest guest
Hi Cal, With levels in the 500's for TT I would not have told you to go on TRT. I see your thyroid is off and this might be why you were feeling like this. Men don't go on TRT unless there levels are below 300 and they are dam sick. Now you have a higher level of E2 and this is going to make your worse and kill your sex life. I don't use Labcorp never had good luck back in the day with them and will never use them again. Unless your Dr. did not order the same test # as the first test the range should be the same. You know to get a Thyroid leveled off first you need good Cortisol levels did your Dr. test this. You need cortisol to carry the Thyroid hormones out of your blood into your cells is your cortisol levels are low this will not happen. When I went on meds for my low Adrenals then Thyroid Armour meds it took me a good yr. to get leveled off. And every time we went up on the dose it took 8 weeks to see the change in labs then we went buy how I felt. Now your E2 is up this mess's with your Thyroid you need to get something like Arimidex to get this down now. As it keeps going up it's going to undo any good the Testosterone and Thyroid meds are doing. Talk to your Dr. about trying .25 mgs or 1/4 of a one mgs pill of Arimidex every 3 days. Guest guest
Thanks so much for the thorough explanation. Everything you mention makes total sense. Will visit with the doc this next week. Would DIM help with any of this?? Also, should the T dose be taken back down to 50mg. It's only been four days post the 75mg shot. Only been on the Armour for four days as well. I know it needs time to build up. What do you think about the Dhea...is the high level anything significant? Guest guest
I'm 53 and I would happily give up TRT if I could have your total test level naturally. Estrogen is another matter altogether and appears to be something that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, most docs do not have much experience in dealing with estrogen levels in men... Testosterone is not the fix-all that people often think. Seriously, there are a lot of younger men too who would love to have your test and free test levels. Guest guest
Cal, The Dhea is up are you taking DHEA supplements to much of the will convert into Estradiol. I can't tell you what to do but if I were you I would not have started on TRT. How long have you been on this 50 mgs / week I would talk to your Dr. about stopping this to see if your 500 + levels come back on there own. You need to work with a good Dr. like Dr. to see why your low and if it can be fixed without your being on TRT. Ask your Dr. if he will work with Dr. over the phone to test and treat you. www.allthingsmale.com He does this if your Dr. is welling. Men just don't need TRT with levels in the 500's on labs. To learn about being on Armour go to the site and read up on it. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/natural-thyroid-101/ I am a mod at this forum for Men's only Thyroid. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=5 & t=24 I have this sticky " How I got started treating my Adrenals and Thyroid " but you need to be a member to read it. I will try to cut and paste it here. ================================================== Edit postDelete postReport this postInformationReply with quote How I got started treating my Adrenals and Thyroid. by pmgamer18 » Tue Aug 21, 2007 7:33 pm The ACTH Stim test will show if it's your Adrenals or your Pituitary not sending the message ACTH to your Adrenals to make Cortisol. Here is a link to Chris's Explanation of the ACTH test you need to read this I have seen posts where Dr.'s did it wrong. You need to be sure you understand about this test and how to read it. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/co ... .php?t=288. Most people find out they have low cortisol because they have a low Thyroid Problem one needs cortisol to carry the thyroid hormone from the blood to the cells. If there cortisol is low do to Adrenal Fatigue there is not enough cortisol to do this and as they up there meds they start to feel hyper because the hormone is going to high in the blood and not being carried to the cells. One big cause of Adrenal Fatigue is a low Thyroid the Adrenals work over time to bring up levels of thyroid and become fatigued. Now we are finding a lot of men with low Testosterone have Adrenal Fatigue do to the stress of low Testosterone be it from the fatigue of low Testosterone or the high Estradiol. But it's dam odd that as men hear about this and are not feeling 100% on Testosterone Replacement Therapy that after a blood test there cortisol levels are low. The first thing I did was to try and figure out what stage of Adrenal Fatigue I was at and it looked like stage 3. http://www.chronicfatigue.org/Selye%20large.html Then I went to this site and printed out a chart for tracking your body's temps. I first took my temp under my arm before getting out of bed for 10 min.'s if it is under 97.8 you have a thyroid problem. Took my temps 4 morning and then I did an avg. it was 95.8. So now I for sure I am hypo. http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp#directions Using this to take my temps it is also sold at Wall-Greens and Wal-mart. http://www.wilsonsthyroidsyndrome.com/P ... ometer.htm Then after I was up for 3 hrs I took my temp every 3 hrs 3 times a day and did an avg. My avg. was low between 96.8 to 97.6 and each day was up or down more then 2ths this is Adrenal Fatigue. I then ordered a Saliva Test through this link. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ From the Canary Club for about $140.00 this is the best way to test cortisol levels and DHEA. Then I bought the book " Adrenal Fatigue The 21st. Century by . This book was a big help in understanding this problem but doing what he said to treat it did nothing to my temp chart. It has this in it Pituitary Extract (Freeze-Dried) 120 mg Adrenal Cortex Extract 33 mg and cortisol but you have no idea how much. http://www.myvitanet.com/adsolfrac50c.html Also he said to do B Vit.s. http://www.myvitanet.com/endfadaenbco.html Vit. C http://www.myvitanet.com/supbiocbuf36.html Everyone with low Cortisol has low DHEA I take this 2 a day. http://www.myvitanet.com/dhea260capph.html I take 3 grams of a good brand of Fish OIL. I buy mine at Coscos (spelling) I get the one that is coated so you don't burp it up. And there is Maca this helps keep your Adrenal hormones leveled. I was off this for 30 days and just went back on it I feel better on this. I do 1/2 tsp 2 x's a day. This is the best price and product on he web. http://www.macaweb.com/view.cfm/hurl/pi ... aca-Powder I dropped the Adrenal cortex http://www.myvitanet.com/adsolfrac50c.html It did nothing. I got some Isocort and started on it it is made from sheep adrenal's and wow the first pill made me feel good you need to start this slow. I did 4 pills = 10mgs. of cortisol first thing in the morning with food and 2 pills = 5mgs. of cortisol at noon and dinner. This changed my chart my temps come up to 98.4 to 99 but still up and down if your avg. is up or down from day to day more then .2 tenths your cortisol is still to low. I followed this to get started. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ad ... w-to-treat My Dr. would not give me Hydrocortisone said it's not safe to use. So I got this book by Dr. Jefferies " Safe Uses of Cortisol " http://members.aol.com/jefferiesw/ http://www.ccthomas.com/details.cfm?P_ISBN=039807500X Showed this to my Dr. and he blew it off and pissed me off. I got up to 120mgs of Armour and could not do more my charting even showed my Adrenals were not right to go higher. So I switched to HC and stated with 10mgs. in the morning wow in less then a week my temps were a straight line across at 98.6 first time in 8 months of charting things were looking good and I was feeling better. So if you need to treat your Adrenals the best place for info is at this link. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/co ... um.php?f=5 Today I am on 3.5 grains of Armour taking it 3x's a day. I am on 25mgs of Cortef starting at 10mgs first thing in the morning at 5am I still wake up at this time now that I am retired. I then go back to bed and when I get up at 8am I feel good. My next dose is 5mgs at 9am, then 5mgs at 1pm and my last dose is at 6pm. I do 70mgs of Testosterone every 3 days and 350 IU's of HCG the 2 days each in between my Testosterone shots I also do this at 5am. I use Arimidex to keep my Estradiol levels down a lot of men over 40 years of age have higher levels then the women. When this gets to high you can kiss your libido good by. I have just started on Floinef because of feeling hot so bad that I would not go out side in the summer heat. I would void every 2 hrs around the clock 24/7 this was due to low Aldosterone levels my body is dumping my sodium. So there you have it after 24 yrs we finely got it right and now I feel good.Men's Thyroid Fourm Moderator and Hypopituitary Co-Moderator, not a medical professional. ------------------------------------------------------ Co-Moderator Phil > From: cibkos22 <no_reply > > Subject: Re: Need opinion of new labs > > Date: Saturday, February 12, 2011, 4:25 PM > Thanks so much for the thorough > explanation. Guest guest
Thanks again Phil, Dhea is 50mg daily so there is possibly more than one factor working against the situation and increasing the Estrodial. Do you suppose stopping the Dhea and cutting back on the Testosterone that the E levels might come down as well as the Testosterone levels? Been on 50mg for about five wks...one wk on 75mg. Little worried about the situation now. I will contact Dr. for conversation. But do feel as though the T has been very helpful within just these past few weeks. Noticed a good change. What range do you keep your T levels?? Don't you think with the current symptoms that the T might have been starting it's decline due to age? Or, Do you see guys in their 50's-60's that maintain a good T level without help? Will also look at thyroid again in a few weeks with the med change. Have not had adrenals tested. Energy is good...go all day but sort of crash at night, but then that's normally bedtime. Guest guest
Cal, First thing I would ask this Dr. is why he put you on TRT with out trying to figure out way you feel like to do. Men with levels from the body in the mid 500's are normal you can't gage levels of T on TRT to what your body makes. Men on TRT some do good at 500 others need to be up near the top of the range. I can't say if you stop the T your body will jump back in but it's worth a try. I am betting it's our thyroid and Cortisol levels making you feel bad. Or something else 50 mgs if DHEA is a lot most men only take 25 mgs problem with taking pills it they go through the liver and we never know what they are going to change into. From what I know about hormones today I would take DHEA cream. You need to talk to your Dr. about this and ask him if he will work with Dr. over the phone to get you jump started and off TRT and to run tests to see whats wrong. I am not a Dr. but I can tell you your Dr. is not doing good by you.
