There is no study that shows being on TRT can cause cancer and there are a lot

of men that had prostate cancer here on TRT. If you husband is true Secondary

meaning his Pituitary is bad due to a tumor or head injury he needs all his

hormones checked. Here is a link to a forum that is closed but full of good

info about Hypopituitay problems.

Men as they age end up with higher levels of Estradiol this is said to by why

men get Prostart Cancer.

Phil,

Thanks for your reply. My husband feels less worried about taking the androgel

now. As far as my husband being secondary hypo-- he doesnt have any pituitary

tumor. The Dr checked his T level and it was 288 and a few months later it went

down to 57 now she wants him to start the androgel. She said that the signals

arent being sent from the pituitary... there really is no explanation except

that he had untreated sleep apnea for a long time which may have affected it.

Within the past 3 yrs he has been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and low

thyroid and now low T. The Dr did not test his estradiol levels... can they be

tested after he has started on the androgel? or does it have to be done before

he starts it? also, the dr wants him to come back after 3 months using the

androgel to do blood testing to check his levels...seems kinda long...does that

sound right to you?

Thanks,

I have a file I made about Androgel and starting on it.  I feel men need to be

tested for Estradiol before going on TRT because high levels of Estradiol can

look on labs like it's a Pituitary Problem.  Here is what happens and how you

tell the Total Testosterone is low with a low end of the range for LH and FSH

this is the message sent from the Pituitary to the Testis that tell them to make

more testosterone.  But and this is a big but men with high levels of Estradiol

there labs can look like this because the brain can't tell the diff. between

Estradiol and Testosterone when it sees high levels of Estradiol it thinks it's

Testosterone and slows down sending the messages of LH and FSH to the Testis

this looks to a Dr. like it's a Pituitary Problem.  Estradiol is made from

Testosterone and the brain sees high levels of Estradiol as Testosterone.  Now

how low can men get with high levels of Estradiol.  I have seen man take

Arimidex and get there

levels up

200 to 300 Points getting Estradiol levels down to about 20 pg/ml here is are

some links about this.

http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/89/3/1174

http://www.medibolics.com/ArimidexBoostsTestosterone.htm

http://www.griffinmedical.com/male_hormone_modulation_therapy.html

Now if a man is very low under 250 this might not be the case under 250 is very

low.

====================================================

Starting on Androgel or Testim.

Yes this happens a lot you start on a low starting dose 5 grams when your brain

sees the testosterone in your blood even just a little it slows down even stops

sending the LH and FSH message to your testis to make the Testosterone you were

making. So lets say your labs for Total T were 350 you add this dose of gel

your brain sees this and you lose the base level you had before the gel.

Now lets say you need more then 5 grams most do so now all your left with is

what the gel is doing so lets say it's doing 200 so you lost 150.

The reason you feel good is your levels go up that 200 the gel is doing in the

first 2 weeks so your levels go up to 550 in theory. The brain sees this and

you fall back.

Why can this happen it might be how your putting on the gel with Androgel you

need to spread it over your upper arms and shoulders and down your back as far

as you can reach this is half of your dose then do the other side. Just spread

it over the area but don't rub it in.

The other thing is it's not getting through your skin good so you need more. If

you have a thyroid problem your skin will become thicker and gels and creams

don't get through the skin and you need to switch to shots.

I tell men when they go on Gels to retest in 2 weeks because you can end up

feeling worse. Most men just need more gel. Dr.'s that tell men to go on 5

grams of gel and come back in 8 to 12 weeks for labs don't know much about the

use of gels. Dr.'s that treat a lot of men for low T on gels see this happen

and test them again in 2 weeks.

When you go to do labs get up and shower that morning go do your labs and then

put in the gel after your blood test so you don’t spike up your labs. If you

can’t do labs in the morning shower put on the gel but don’t get any gel on

the spot they take the blood from. Do your labs about 6 hrs later.

Call your Dr. and tell him this and that your not feeling good you were but fell

back.

Phil,

Thanks for your reply and great info,,,,My husbands T level was 57 which is very

low,,,,do you think it would really be an estradiol problem or a real pituitary

problem? The Dr. claims that he isnt getting the signals sent from the pituitary

because of years of untreated sleep apnea. Do you think i should be concerned

about his estradiol level in this case?

Thanks,
