Guest guest
Welcome to the group...can you tell us the names of the blood tests you have had to diagnose Hashi, any s*x hormone testing, list your results and the lab's values, the thyroid med and strength you were given and if you have had any 24 hour saliva adrenal testing? With that high TSH you are miserable I know...Also, what do you eat on a regular day...thyroid/adrenal and s*x hormones closely tied...EL > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
You need to get proper evaluation of all horomones and other parameters from diagnostic testing. Once data is gathered then you need to get with a qualified health professional to properly analyze the results. When implementing testing I tend to have a comprehensive lists of test to be completed ruling out several different area. When dealing with cases I look at the pathology of the problem by examining biological, structural, emotional, psychological, environmental, hormonal, nutritoinal, and lifestyle imbalances which may be present. Taking an integrative approach will get you the best desired results. > > Hello everyone. I am a lurker, I have been reading the posts on here for a couple weeks. Guest guest
Hi Bruce and Welcome, You need to test your Cortisol levels a fast test is to do a morning fasting blood test is your below 12 then do a 4x's in a day Saliva test to see how your rithum looks. Can you post your labs the Dr.'s did and tell me how much Thyroid med they put you on and the name of it. My wife has hashimotos and when they first tired to treat her they put her on a normal starting dose of Synthroid a day later she felt very bad much like she was having a heart attack it was the meds dose to strong for her. And like you she had very high TSH levels then her TSH would fall to normal. Back in them days some 30 yrs ago she could not take the meds even at a low dose. If here antibodies were attacking her thyroid levels would be low they give here meds. Next thing her antibodies would stop attacking her Thyroid and she would go hyper on the meds. Back then they did RAI (Radio Active Iodine) shots to kill her thyroid so she could take meds all the time. Today what we know about doing this we would not have done it. Here is a link about labs and hashimotos might help you. http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/woliner.htm In your case I would try to get your Thyroid under control the retest your Testosterone levels they might come back up. If you go on TRT it's for life make dam sure you know why your levels are low and they can't be fixed. Here is a cut and paste from this link I pray this helps you. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/hashimotos/ =================================================== HOW DO I TREAT IT? You treat Hashi’s the same way you do just plan hypothyroid–with thyroid medications. Why? Because if raised high enough, they can stop the attack. We have seen those on thyroxine T4-only (aka Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc) have some success in stopping the attack, but patients who switched to desiccated thyroid noticed even better results, especially if they dosed by symptoms rather than labs. Some doctors have unwisely recommended non-treatment until labwork “stabilizesâ€, but that could take months and years, and you continue to suffer. The attack can happen over a few weeks or extend into years. It has been stated that antibodies can be present for years even after you counter the attack with desiccated thyroid hormone. But patients on desiccated thyroid have noted that antibodies greatly fall if they dose high enough. WHY DID MY HASHI’S GET WORSE ON DESICCATED THYROID (and even Synthroid and other T4 meds)? Easy answer: you have stayed on lower doses too long and you haven’t risen high enough, quick enough. Lower doses of desiccated thyroid and other thyroid meds, as well as staying with each raise too long, will FEED the attack, not stop it. You then have further swelling in your throat, or hair loss, or high anxiety, or a raise in your antibodies…and heightened hypo symptoms with a higher TSH. And doctors who aren’t knowledgeable about desiccated thyroid might put you back on synthetics, or take you off your meds completely. The solution is to RAISE THE DESICCATED THYROID faster and according to the elimination of symptoms and NOT labs. Most seem to end up in the 3-5 grains area to stop that attack, with a few lower and a few higher. (Also note that some patients with Hashi’s have developed adrenal fatigue, and you may need to treat that before you can raise your thyroid meds high enough to stop the attack) Note: as of 2009, if you are on Armour, it may be the reason you’re not doing well with your Hashi’s. Armour was reformulated, and patients reported a return of symptoms no matter how high they raise it. The solution soon discovered was the thoroughly CHEW UP the tablets to release the desiccated thyroid from the excess cellulose. This may also need to be done with Naturethroid, as it was reformulated, as well. MY DOC SAYS I SHOULDN’T BE ON THYROID MEDS WHEN I’M HYPER FROM HASHI’S. IS HE CORRECT? The hyper when you have Hashi’s is caused by the die-off of thyroid hormones from the attack and their dump in to your blood. You also will swing between hypo and hyper as explained above. But to say you shouldn’t be on thyroid meds is wrong according to the vast experience of Hashimotos patients. You want to stop the attack and the swings, and the only way to do that is to be on thyroid meds, and raise high enough to stop the attack, which in turn will stop the hyper swings. You’ll have to fight your doctor’s tendency to hold you too long on each raise, or to dose you by the TSH or other labs. Guest guest
Phil, I hear you are a " legend " amongst us. I am going through EXACTLY what your wife went through. I have all my tests. I have gone through this for a year with no avail. Ive had every test known to mankind. Every. Period. There is not a test that was not performed on me. Ive had bone marrow taps, spinal taps, mri's , sonograms, 4 time spit tests, pee tests, poo tests, things going down my throat, things going up my a$$, thyroid, testosterone, biopsies, gallbladder removed, brain scans, stomache scans, cancer work ups, heart tests, vestublar tests, ear exams, eye exams, studies, sleep labs, EEG, EKG, everything and anything@! so the bottom line is this... I cant take any thyroid. Cant even be in the same room as the stuff and it makes me go nuts. My T is low. If your wife didnt have the RAI, what would she of done? Guest guest
Hi Burce, Sorry your going thrugh this at the time we did not know anything about anything. If she went on Thyroid meds Synthroid she would go hyper feel like she was having a heart attack. Her problem was she would be fine suffering from Hashimoto’s Disease. But going on Thyroid meds she would swing from hypo to hyper. When her antibodies were on the attack off meds she would go hypo going on meds the attack would stop she would go hyper. Read this from this link. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/hashimotos/ Her Dr.'s were Endo's and told her they needed to give her RAI to kill her Thyroid so they could treat her. She did this never felt right now she was Hypo all the time. Today we know it was the lack of T3. Now she feels good on Shythroid with a small amount of T3. We know today she did not need this RAI all she need to do was go on Armour work up on the dose until her TSH went down this for most people stop the attack. =================================================== WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW IF I HAVE HASHI’S?? As the attack increases, you will tend to swing between hypo and hyper, making dosing by labs, and especially the TSH, impossible. Your labs will be high one time, and low the next…back and forth. The hyper is caused by the release of thyroid hormones into your blood due to the destruction. The hypo is caused by the lessening function of your thyroid due to the attack. If you do have Hashi’s, you may have to insist to your lab-obsessed doctor to let you raise by the elimination of symptoms, not labs, due to this reality. NOTE: when uninformed doctors fail to do the antibodies test on you, or don’t understand the swings of the attack, you can be wrongly diagnosed as having bi-polar, which is simply the hyper swing of the attack!! Or as on Australian gal called it, the “Yeeha†of her swing. ---------------------------------------------------- HOW DO I TREAT IT? You treat Hashi’s the same way you do just plan hypothyroid–with thyroid medications. Why? Because if raised high enough, they can stop the attack. Guest guest
I've read this post. 6 times now. You are saying if your wife didn't have rai she would of been able to take thyroid then? I'm going through the same exact thing she was. I can not take anything at all. The link you sent me says that I should start with a large amount of synthroid if I am reading correctly? > > > > > > > From: brucergoldberg <brucergoldberg@> > > > > Subject: Bruce First question for > > the group > > > > > > > > Date: Sunday, March 20, 2011, 9:14 PM > > > > Hello everyone. I am a lurker, > > > > I have been reading the posts on here for a > > couple > > > > weeks. My friend told me about this > > board. > > > > > > > > Quick history, I was diagnosed with hashimotos > > about a year > > > > ago. Im not taking any thyroid because it > > makes me > > > > feel like death. My tsh was at 7 or 8, but it > > was just > > > > checked and it went up to about 22. > > > > > > > > My testosterone was at 215 range 400-800 last > > time > > > > checked. I tried taking testosterone both as > > androgel > > > > and as the patch, but it did the same weird crap > > to me as > > > > the thyroid did. > > > > > > > > Whats really odd is, every day around 3 pm I get > > this weird > > > > sensation for about two - three hours as if > > someone kicked > > > > me in the " boys " . I get light headed, > > sweaty, > > > > confused, ears ring, heart palps. Guest guest
Bruce I am not a Dr. but I will try to tell you how to do this. As in the bottom link I gave you start taking your Temps. ================================================== “Though active thyroid hormone is needed to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, to raise blood sugar when hypoglycemic, and to convert beta-carotene into Vitamin A, there is no specific blood test to show whether thyroid hormone is working properly or not. Dr. Broda , MD, PhD, who wrote one of the first books on hypothyroidism, ‘Hypothyroidism: the unsuspected illness,' described a simple temperature test using a mercury thermometer.11 Mercury thermometers are more accurate than digital ones, and because they are hard to find nowadays, I’ll sell one to you for a dollar (that’s all they cost me). Here is a handout to describe how to do the test. ---------------------------------------------------- Here is a link to how to do this you start with your up 3 hrs. then you sit in the same spot rest a little and take your temp. In the following link tells you how to do this and chart your avg. Temp on a chart. So you do this every 3 hrs. 3x's / day. add them up div. by 3 this is your avg. As you start on NTH Thyroid best one I feel to try is called NP Thyroid sold at WallGreens. Start with 30 mgs or one half a grain you will see your temp avg. go up then by the end of 2 weeks fall back a little when this happens add 30 mgs more and repeat up to 120 mgs or 60 mgs 2x's / day. Print the chart out in this link. http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph http://www.drrind.com/forms.html#tempgraph I use this to take my temps I find the digital oral thermometers don't work well for this so get this they sell them at WallGreens. http://www.wilsonssyndrome.com/Products/Thermometer.htm And like the link at the bottom of my last post to you make a 10 top things list on who your feeling and keep track everyday. ================================================== “Lastly, I want you to take this sheet of paper that has ten, 10-point scales on it. I want you to write down the ten things most important to you. For the first line, fill in ‘Energy Level.' Zero will be where you can’t get out of bed, ten being where you are excited about travel and are planning a fun trip. If you are spending money you don’t have, you might be at a twelve. Please call me before they take away your credit cards.†smiled. “Fill in the other nine items with the things most important to you: weight, skin, and mood are three things you’ve already mentioned. Many people also put down constipation, hair growth/loss, nail quality, and cold/heat intolerance, menstrual periods, and libido. Lastly, there are checkboxes at the bottom for ‘Palpitations’ (sensations of your heartbeat) and ‘Anxiety.' If you feel like you have too much coffee or caffeine in your system, you might be getting too much medication. Every so often, scale yourself. If you are getting better – then we know you are on the right track.†---------------------------------------------------- For my wife more was not better when she was on Armour she did 105 mgs / day just 15 mgs more she felt Hyper 15 mgs less she felt Hypo. When the FDA took Armour off the market she went on Synthyroid she is up to 127 mgs with a very low dose of Cytomel (T3)1/2 of a 5 mcg. pill 2x's a week she feels good on this. I feel you need to work your way up slow keeping track of the 10 things about how your feeling and following your Temp Avg. chart. As you get leveled off your Temp avg. will go up mine topped out at 98.4 from 96. something. If you feel your heart beating hard and fast with your temps going up past 98.6 on the upper dose your going hyper. Labs are not much help with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis you need to dose by how your feeling and how your chart looks. Most people when they get leveled off the thyroid antibodies stop attacking. Guest guest
I hope you didnt take my post the wrong way. I was actually fixated on the post because your wife was going through the same exact thing i have been struggling with for a year. I was hoping that you were able to share her experience with me to supply me with a logical explanation that I could apply towards my own situation. The problem i have is that even with the tinyest bit of thyroid, my body and mind rejects it. I get very irritable, testy, anxious, agitated, cant think, sweat my butt off and cant function. I have tried all amounts of thyroid and every type of thyroid, both dessicated and synthetic. The only thing I have not tried is jumping right in feet first and running with .50 or higher. The most ive ever taken is 37.5 of tirosint. At the point i was taking 37.5, i was unfunctionable. I was able to stay on that dose for about 5 weeks. thank you > > > > > > > > > > > From: brucergoldberg > > <brucergoldberg@> > > > > > > Subject: Bruce First > > question for > > > > the group > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Sunday, March 20, 2011, 9:14 PM > > > > > > Hello everyone. I am a > > lurker, > > > > > > I have been reading the posts on here > > for a > > > > couple > > > > > > weeks. My friend told > > me about this > > > > board. > > > > > > > > > > > > Quick history, I was diagnosed with > > hashimotos > > > > about a year > > > > > > ago. Im not taking any thyroid > > because it > > > > makes me > > > > > > feel like death. My tsh was at > > 7 or 8, but it > > > > was just > > > > > > checked and it went up to about > > 22. > > > > > > > > > > > > My testosterone was at 215 range > > 400-800 last > > > > time > > > > > > checked. I tried taking > > testosterone both as > > > > androgel > > > > > > and as the patch, but it did the same > > weird crap > > > > to me as > > > > > > the thyroid did. > > > > > > > > > > > > Whats really odd is, every day around 3 > > pm I get > > > > this weird > > > > > > sensation for about two - three hours > > as if > > > > someone kicked > > > > > > me in the " boys " . I get light > > headed, > > > > sweaty, > > > > > > confused, ears ring, heart palps. Guest guest
No I tried to tell you how you can try going on NTH Thyroid meds the med is called NP Thyroid try as low as 15 mgs 1/4 of a pill.
