Guest guest
How about a stress formula multivitamin like Stesstabs? They have 100mg or 500% of the daily requirement. > > I have mentioned it before but I do see several posts where guys are concerned about taking statins.I was too and sought an alternative.Turns out niacin was used effectivly for many years.Vitamin B3.Of course there is no profit in it so we have the profitable statins. Also referred as nicotinic acid.Unpleasant side effect is a warm flush about 20 mins after taking it.Only lasts for about 5 mins. Can be blunted by taking an baby aspirin about 30 mins before taking the niacin. There are several niacins on the market.Apparently the flush free is not effective in controlling blood lipids.I take the slo niacin 500mg from costco every morning.Less than 10 cents a dose.My lipids are much better than when I was on pravachol. If interested do your research. It can raise blood sugar so diabetics should first consult your dr. >
Guest guest
All niacins are not equally effective in lipid control.I take nicotinic acid 500mg in the slow released formula. My understanding is that is must be the nicotinic acid, not one of it's isomers. So you should look what type is in the vitamins. > > >
Guest guest
After I failed the statin test the doctor put me on Niaspan, a prescription form of niacin. 1. the therapeutic dose is 1000 to 2000 mg per day in divided doses. Less than 1000 mg apparently does nothing for cholesterol. 2. it triggers gout if you are susceptible. I found out the painful way. 3. it can adversely effect the liver. regular blood tests are mandatory. 4. anecdotal evidence reports that the prescription form is not as effective as the regular type. Some have stated that it is the " time release " that both causes the liver damage and lack of effectiveness. Hope this helps.
