Guest guest
No I am Hypopituitary had low cortisol levels for over 23 yrs Dr.'s were stuped about it telling me I am ok in the range. Yet later I learned that any thing below 15 in the morning fasting test is low. When I did this test my Adrenals jumped right in there and the numbers for Cortisol were 9 and went up to the high 30's after the shot in the first 30 min's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACTH_stimulation_test Co-Moderator Phil > From: <chrisjtaylor46@...> > Subject: Hypo pit?? > > Date: Friday, October 1, 2010, 3:31 PM > Hi > > Further to my last post about my synatchen test, i'm > wondering this: > > if i've been hypopituitary for a long time, and therefore > not much acth has been secreted for a long time, could this > have caused my adrenals to waste away because they're not > being stimulated by my body to do much work? > > thanks > > chris > > > > ------------------------------------ > >
Guest guest
Phil, Although your adrenals responded for you, I think has a point. Mine did not shoot up during the test but they did stimulate enough that I passed teh test the FIRST TIME. The second test they not only did not respond but the second value was less than the first value I went from 14 to 9...so even if those numbers were swapped it still does explain much. I have read that when you are experiencing severe adrenal symptoms your adrenals are being damaged. So when I would get so nauseated that I would throw up or just not be able to eat for weeks on end...they were not function well enough to stay healthy. Last summer before I started on bio-identicals and especially testosterone I was having adrenal crisis after adrenal crisis even though I was taking plenty of HC....sure I was exercising and pushing myself to get stronger but looking back I think it highlights how important it is to have all our hormonns balanced or we put to much stress on one system... Once our other systems are not functioning and we are relying on our adrenals to get through the day and they are receiving the ACTH signal then yes I think they can be damaged by both. Guest guest
Judy, There are many things that can cause Adrenals to not work. One like me the brain dose not tell it to work. Two one can have an illness like with some men of low Testosterone the stress on the body of this over works there Adrenals and in time they can't make enough Cortisol. Three you can have 's or Cushings and this is a long list of things that can cause this. The times I felt weak, got shaky and sick to my stomach I ended up in the ER and they had to gave me a big shot of Medrol. They called this Adrenal Insufficiency and at the time I was on HC meds just not enough. Even when I had Heart Bypass surgery they gave me a big shot of Medrol before and after the surgery so I could live through the surgery. Some people have over worked there Adrenals for so long they never come back to normal and need HC meds for life. Anyone on HC meds needs to Carry a medical ID card and wear a bracelet telling emergency workers that you have adrenal insufficiency and need cortisol. http://www.cushings-help.com/911.htm Co-Moderator Phil > From: zashes11 <zashes11@...> > Subject: Re: Hypo pit?? > > Date: Sunday, October 3, 2010, 12:08 AM > Phil, > > Although your adrenals responded for you, I think has > a point. > Mine did not shoot up during the test but they did > stimulate enough that I passed teh test the FIRST TIME.
