Guest guest
DH votes for shots: 1) way too cold now to have to undress and slather up twice a day with cream, and then wait for it to dry 2) less aromatization to estrogen (which is probably the cause of enlarged prostate, not DHT) 3) more convenient to only have to deal with it every 5 days instead of twice a day 4) doesn't have to worry about not getting any on me for hours after application 5) freedom to sweat, jump in the pool, etc. immediately after a shot 6) actually cheaper! HTH, Barb > > I am considering asking my doctor about going to shots instead of the compounded cream depending on how high my DHT is when I am retested in March. I have read that DHT is not good for an enlarged prostate and I sufffer from this affliction. DHT is not as much of an issue with shots compared to gels according to what I am seeing and hearing. My question is to people that have done both the shots and the gels, " which do you like better, the shots or the gels/cream? Guest guest
Hands down I like shots much better then gels but I also do HCG with my Test C shots this helps to keep me more leveled. Don't let a Dr. put you on shots more then once a week. Most men do better 2x's / wk. but try once a week first. Guest guest
I had prostatitis about 10 years ago - similar to enlarged prostate - doc said mine was the size of a tennis ball! It subsided on it's own, but I had occasional flareups as recently as 2 years ago. I was really worried about TRT causing problems for me with this, but it's actually gotten better. Urine flow is great, no flareups or pain - nothin. I am taking Anastrazole (arimidex) to keep E2 down - so may play into it. > > I am considering asking my doctor about going to shots instead of the compounded cream depending on how high my DHT is when I am retested in March. Guest guest
Gel for me too. I use androgel 5mg packet once in the morning. After I shower put it on my shoulder and/or lower stomach, shave and get dressed. Good results from using gel too. My T level is 550. I used shots for a few years and hated it. It would numb my leg. Guest guest
I just started on the gel, first pack today, and I about died when I had to shell out $250 to the pharmacy. I have insurance, but it is a 'High Deductable' health plan. If the gel works for me, I definitely have to sit down with my Doc and ask how I can get it cheaper. Guest guest
I do not like giving myself shots but will have to for HCG I just ordered. I rather have shots w/o pain for two weeks rather than doing the gel. Its a personal and insurance preference Re: Re: Testosterone shots vs gel Gel for me too. Guest guest
Thank you too everyone who responded. The power of people who have experienced things before me is wonderful to be able to tap into. You've given me things to think about. Will ask my doctor if shots are a good option for me. If he says yes I will try it. I want to give myself the best chance of improving my prostate problem. If no change in my condition after trying the shots I can always to back to compounded cream. > > > > I am considering asking my doctor about going to shots instead of the compounded cream depending on how high my DHT is when I am retested in March. Guest guest
I did Androgel for 6 months and then asked my Dr. to try the shots which I've now been on for about 4 months. Although the gel seemed to work fine, it began to be a problem for me as I travel a lot and also have a women in the house. I have a very approachable Dr. (as is his nurse who gives me the shots on a walk in basis) and his office is but 3 min away from my house making it very convenient to stop in. Also......and even my Dr. doenst know what to think about this but my PSA level almost doubled after starting the gel and yet has now come back to even lower than the original level after switching to the injection. Why??? even my Dr. is puzzled but I've been retested and they really did come back down a lot since starting the shots. Anyway $$ wasnt an issue with the gel as I have great insurance but I for one prefer the injections. I urge all men 40+ to get your T levels checked as treatment has changed my life dramatically for the better. Better self worth, better emotions, better energy and as an extra bonus my physical body is the best I've had in decades. Ive always worked out daily but even so the T made me more toned and fit. IMHO.
Guest guest
I have had similar positive results since starting HRT. Great to hear you are doing so well. It is encouraging to hear that your PSA levels dropped after you began using shots instead of gel. Unless my doctor is dead set against it and has a good reason for not switching shots I will push as hard as I can for at least trying shots. If it wasn't for my problem with frequent urination at night, up about every 90 minutes or so, sometimes less sometimes a little more, I wouldn't even worry about it and probably not move to shots. But until I have tried everything I can think of I won't give up trying to figure out if there is an answer to this problem. johnfromseattle > > I did Androgel for 6 months and then asked my Dr. to try the shots which I've now been on for about 4 months. Guest guest
I speculate: your libido likely has increased, and also the number of ejaculations. That will reduce I think the chronic inflammation so common in the prostate, and in turn reduce the PSA. The inflammation, in my opinion, is a significant feature encouraging prostate cancer. Guest guest
My PSA at times would go up for no reasion the first time I was sent to see a Uro the took a sample of tussue nothing was wrong. We don't get upset about this any more. We found if you have sex it can come in high and if you have a low infection or under a lot of stress it can come in high. Some time your going to have to learn how to do your own shots most of us do there is nothing to it. I shoot my Test C shots every 3 days doing this keeps me more leveled and holds down my Estradiol and helps keep my blood thinner. I use a small 27g 1ml x 1/2 " lg needle and shoot into my Thigh no pain dam good levels. Here is a good link and read the info page. http://spotinjections.com/index3.htm Co-Moderator Phil > From: miguy1962 <miguy1962@...> > Subject: Re: Testosterone shots vs gel > > Date: Saturday, January 29, 2011, 4:43 PM > I did Androgel for 6 months and then > asked my Dr. to try the shots which I've now been on for > about 4 months. Although the gel seemed to work fine, > it began to be a problem for me as I travel a lot and also > have a women in the house. I have a very approachable > Dr. (as is his nurse who gives me the shots on a walk in > basis) and his office is but 3 min away from my house making > it very convenient to stop in. Also......and even my > Dr. doenst know what to think about this but my PSA level > almost doubled after starting the gel and yet has now come > back to even lower than the original level after switching > to the injection. Guest guest
High levels of Estradiol can inflame your prostate and make it swell get this tested if your over 30 take something to get this down. I had this problem from high levels of Estradiol and getting the levels down to 20 pg/ml my being up all night going to the bathroom stopped. Guest guest
I second Tom's opinion. When I had my prostatitis, my urologist gave me one important piece of advice: " Increase sexual activity " . You know I ran home and told the wife what the doctor's orders were! The prostate seems to be " use it or lose it " organ. I remember reading somewhere that men who have > 5 ejaculations per week had a markedly lowered risk of prostate cancer. > > > > I did Androgel for 6 months and then asked my Dr. to try the shots which I've now been on for about 4 months. Guest guest
, I'll second Phil's suggestion you check estradiol to make sure it's not too high. There are also some options to deal with the urinary symptoms. I take nettle root and it really does work. Now I don't have problems holding urine and having to pee all the time. Urine stream is also better. A recent road trip wasn't complete torture either. I recently increased dose and I notice less urine that keeps dribbling out after peeing too. This is what I take: http://www.iherb.com/Eclectic-Institute-Nettle-Root-2-fl-oz-60-ml/2957?at=0 I've also had to lower my estradiol, but with really high SHBG levels it seems that further irritated my prostate than just estradiol. -Nigel On 29 January 2011 18:20, Noe <jnoe9769@...> wrote: > > > I have had similar positive results since starting HRT. Guest guest
Thank you for the support and suggestions everyone. I am currently taking pygeum, saw palmetto, and also went through a bottle of nettle extract, not nettle root. And I take another pill with sitosteral or something in it. It's called Pro Beta Prostate. As of now I am going to attack this problem by going to shots instead of cream if at all possible, and asking my doctor to monitor estradiol and see if it is indeed high. Except for this prostatitis problem and frequent night urination, life is good on HRT. By the way, the initial reason I went to the doctor and got tested was because of prostatitis. It was then that I found out I had almost no testosterone as well as Very low GH and DHEA. It was prosatitis which brought me to the doctor in the first place, so yay prosatitis! (sort of) heh. The quality of my life has increased tremendously because of HRT. > > > > > > > I have had similar positive results since starting HRT. Great to hear you > > are doing so well.
