Low SHGB

There was an interesting thread the MESO board about how men with low SHGB do

not respond well to TRT. That is so me. My last SHGB was 12 (18-47). My biggest

complaints are no libido and fair to poor erections. Even with a Total T at the

top of the range and the same for free T, my desire just is non-existent. I try

to keep my E2 in the 20-30 range but maybe it needs to be lower. SHGB prefers T

to E2 as far as what it wants to bind to. Currently taking 0.25mg of arimidex 2

times a week and 90 mg of depo-T every 7 days. Total T is 600-1000 ng/dl. Any

thoughts?

Yes how is our sugar levels are they to high Dr. M says this can lower SHBG. If

this is not your problem try taking .25 mgs every other day see is you get some

wood it should happen in less then week if not stop it for a week see it wood

happens going up.

I respect what Phil is doing for himself.

However, I generally want to maintain SHBG (sex-hormone binding globulin) since

it prolongs the duration of action of testosterone. Most of the time, I find

SHBG too low rather than too high.

Testosterone, itself, will drive SHBG down.

Estrogen will increase SHBG. Thus controlling estradiol will lower SHBG.

Insulin also will drive SHBG down. Insulin has the strongest effect on SHBG,

compared to any other factor.

Low SHBG is a good sign that a person has insulin resistance or diabetes - with

lowers testosterone production. Insulin resistance or diabetes greatly increases

the risk for cardiovascular disease.
