Guest guest
Can you post your test results in the context of the exact name of the test done, your result + the labs ranges for the test? We have found that *normal* is not always so...did you get hard copies of your labs from the doc? Have you had your adrenals tested by 24 hour saliva testing and thyroid tested as well? If so, can you post the name of the test, your result and the labs ranges? I would worry about a doc pushing this *weight loss protocol* w/o proper attention to the *basics* of your hormonal situation..what type of doc are you seeing? EL > > Now I am really confused. I came here a few months ago when I had a blood test showing an incredibly low total Testosterone level of (44) I am 43 YO now was 42 at the time. > > I went for a follow=up and got a lot of things tested and the low T was verified but not as bad this time. It was still very low (112) on a scale where 260 is the minimum. It also showed very low FSH, LH and TSH as well and GF1 that I had never even heard of. > > With everything being low I had an MRI of my brain and pituiary but it was basically normal. So the doc said he had no idea what was happening or why but since my wife and I are trying to have children and I clearly need testosterone, I can't take any testosterone or it will shut down sperm production (which is actually above normal and makes no sense I realize). He said there is is only one " cure " until we leave child baring ages and that is HCG. I know I need something as I can sleep for 15 hours a day easily, and cold all the time, tied like you can't believe and can't even stand for more than 5 minutes or so without being wiped out (I guess it is all the very low T) My free T was measured at (21). > > So he prescribed 1500 units of HCG twice a week and said within about 10 days I would begin feeling great. I have now been on it for about 6 weeks and have taken 20,000 units of HCG and have blown up like a balloon. I have added almost 15 pounds in a month and my legs and feet look like a pregnant woman's. My wife jokes that I now have " cankles " , a new term for me? I was advised I would begin losing weight and feel great but instead I am so bloated, tired and swoolen I can't believe it. I moved this month, lost the doctor and will have no insurance for another month so any testing or follow-up with a doc is out for about a month or six weeks. Now I wonder if I should just stop the HCG. I don't get it. People take this for weight loss. Has anyone ever found that it causes weight gain? Since the doc said it was my on;y option It sounds like I am scr***ed. Is this normal? Since I seem to have an abnormal motabolism or something maybe HCG will not work or maybe it is just doing the opposite? Is 1500 units per dose normal, I am wondering about trying less. Any thoughts would be appreciated. >
Guest guest
Wow, that is a lot of hCG per week. I read last night on the I think anabolic minds forum that hCG causes the aromatase enzyme level to increase, therefor increasing estradiol (E2) which would cause you to get fat. Are you taking any AI to prevent this? I would definitely have your blood checked for E2 to see where you are with that. I think he could be giving you so much that you are over producing testosterone which get's converted to E2. This is just a guess on my part, so get a blood test to check for this hormone. > > > > Now I am really confused. Guest guest
Low FSH, LH, TSH, IGF-1 with low hormone levels indicate a problem with your pituitary or hypothalamus. Given that those aren't fixable, you're supposed to just replace ALL the hormones. Being cold all the time is low thyroid. Inability to stand for long periods is low aldosterone. These are hormones in addition to testosterone or HCG that you would need to replace. Phil always recommends HCG as 250 IU's every 3 days. You were given 1500, which is 6x the amount, no wonder you ballooned up! I would hold off on your next shot till your swelling goes down, then restart at a lower dose like Phil recommends. Please listen to your body guys. Just cause a doc told you to do it, doesn't make it right. It may be as simple as a dose adjustment, or interval adjustment, or both, but if you feel worse, not better, something needs adjusting! Barb > > Now I am really confused. Guest guest
The thing about what your Dr. is doing is wrong you don't do HCG to keep Testosterone levels up at a very high dose like this. Most men do 60 to 100 IU's everyday to get there levels up. What your Dr. is doing will in time make your testis desensitized to the HCG and they will stop working. Men do a dose like this to try to make a baby not keep Testosterone levels up. What is happening to you is your testis can handle that much HCG and it's getting converted into Estradiol and your holding water big time. Dr. was one of the first Dr.'s to give men HCG that have low testosterone and he found anything over 500 IU's a day can desensitize ones testis this means you will become Primary your testis will stop working. Go to Dr. 's site www.allthingsmale.com and read TRT: A Recipe for success and his HCG Update. And this link supports what he dose. http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/90/5/2595 Now I feel you need to do come labs get the following tests done. Here is what I am have done at Quest Labs Estradiol sensitive Code #4021 Testosterone, Free, Bioavailable & Total LC/MS/MS Code # 14966X. If your Estradiol levels are over 30 pg/ml then you need to get this down. If your over 50 you need Arimidex to get this down .5 mgs or 1/2 a pill every other day. Also if your Dr. never tested your Estradiol you might not be Secondary high levels of Estradiol look to your brain like it's Testosterone and your brain will slow down sending LH and FSH to your testis and you end up with low levels of Testosterone. The following link is about older men but I see this in younger. http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/89/3/1174 http://www.medibolics.com/ArimidexBoostsTestosterone.htm You need to cut back on your HCG shots to about 100 IU's / day. One big thing that happens to most men with very high levels of Estradiol is they lose there night time and morning wood and even get some ED problems. Guest guest
I have my test results and will post below. To clarify again, I am on 3,000 Units of HCG per week divided into two doses of 1,500. I am on nothing else. The doc that put me on this is an endocrinologist My super low total T was at quest labs that apear to have different refernce ranges and was in the afternoon so I got these at the Mayo Clinic at 7:00AM to be sure they were early AM numbers. Iron (50-150) 65 Iron % Sat (14-50) 19 Ferritin (24-336) 46 K (3.6-5.2) 4.4 Glucose (70-100) 100 Creatinine (.8-1.3) 1.0 Cortisole AM (7.0-25) 10.9 TSH (.3-5.0) .17L T4 Free (.6-1.6) 1.0 T3 (2.0-3.5) 3.6H ACTH/Adrenal (10.0-60.0) 12.1 GH (.01-.97) <.01L Prolactin (3-13) 5 Ins-Like GF1 (98-261) 75L FSH (1.0-18.0) 1.8 LH (1.8-8.6) 1.3 L Testosterone (240-950) 120L Testoserone Bio A (61-213) 54 TSI (<=1.3) <1.0 That's about it the Quest results were similar but we did less testing. The total T was lower with Quest at it measured 44 total but again that was in the PM. My Thyroid (TSH) has always tested abnormal but since the TSH is low it should mean I am Hyper not Hypo thyroid and I have the symptoms of Hypo so the docs are always confused and just say " we need to monitor " . I have begun taking large doses of Vitamin D3 as I do have chronic pain issues. I understand that D3 can really help with that. Other than that I only take cholesterol meds and have for years. I do think I need to reduce this HCG until I can get in to a new doctor in maybe a month but I can't continue or I may put on 40 pounds. One interesting thing is I think it is mostly water. I have been eating far less than normal while gaining this weight (Maybe half), but I would say I drink 8-12 bottles of water per day so I really think it is water weight but I can't stop drinking I am thirsty all the time. This really stinks. I feel like the Saturday Night Live Character I think it was that used to walk around and shout " Get in my belly " ! Was it the Clumps? I feel like I am wearing a fat suit. > > > From: Bstee <bstee@...> > > Subject: HCG and weight gain??? > > > > Date: Friday, August 13, 2010, 2:29 AM > > Now I am really confused. I > > came here a few months ago when I had a blood test showing > > an incredibly low total Testosterone level of (44) I am 43 > > YO now was 42 at the time. > > > > I went for a follow=up and got a lot of things tested and > > the low T was verified but not as bad this time. Guest guest
Looking at your labs I see this. Your Iron levels are low. Your Cortisol am is very low next thing to do is a 4x's in a day Saliva test to see how your rhythm looks. http://livingnetwork.co.za/hormones/adrenal-fatigue/ Your TSH with your labs for thyroid tell me your Pituitary is not telling your Thyroid to make Hormones the right way. If your not feeling hyper I feel your Hypopituitary and this can be from a Head Injury even with out seeing your Estradiol levels. And your Growth Hormones with your IGF-1 levels low tell me it's your Pituitary not working right. And your very low Testosterone levels with the very low LH and FSH you are Hypopituitary. Now about your added weight I feel it's water but don't stop drinking water. Try adding some good Sea Salt to a glass of water first thing in the morning 1/2 tsp. With your Thyroid and Cortisol levels this might help, your body will hold water if your Adrenals are telling your body to dump your sodium. If you lower your HCG shots to 100 IU's a day and add in some Sea Salt you should feel better and dump the water. If not you might need a water pill. Every thing in your labs show you are Hypopituitary I am due to a head injury here is a good link to a forum that is closed but full of dam good info about this problem. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewforum.php?f=12 & sid=5391a1b5c486586a397e260\ 447972569 Co-Moderator Phil > From: Bstee <bstee@...> > Subject: Re: HCG and weight gain??? Guest guest
Glucose high, TSH (are you on thyroid hormone? if not...) low, there is such an animal as *subclinical hypER thyroid*..left untreated can result in cardiac abnormalities leading to more severe cardiac disease and in addition,to problems with bone density...sorry to say, endo's are mostly idiots when it comes to thyroid issues. Or, you could be hypothyroid, secondary to pituitary disease ..you have such low T and growth hormone levels... Doesn't look like he ran Free T3..I'd have that done; Free T4 below mid range..has the doctor ruled out pituitary disease or Graves disease (that is what the TSI is for) or did they run any of the other thyroid antibody tests? Symptoms of hyper and hypo very similiar...chronic pain is difficult, and thyroid issues do cause all over body/muscle/joint aches.. Your comment about being thirsty all the time (and the volume of water you are drinking) concerns me: have you had your aldosterone/renin/sodium/potassium run? That symptom key for other adrenal hormone issues...with all that water you may be losing alot of sodium..do you use unrefined sea salt on your food? Guest guest
As I noted previously the HCG just wasn't working well. Maybe I was overdoing it at 3000 units a week. I cut it down in half but wound up in the Urgent Care with edemia (huge feet) and I had to stop. I tried to get in to an endo but there is a three month wait and with a total tst of between 44 and 120 so I able to get in to a pretty decent GP (I think). I told him my issues and shared my test results. He said anyone with my numbers is really in need of more specialized treatment than he can offer. But he suggested that while I wait for the endo (still three months out) I have to get my tst numbers up just to function. He put me on the higher level patch (5m) he said after 6 weeks we would test and then I would see the endo. Although I don't want to become primary because we would like to have a child I also have to live. Maybe I can do a really small shot of the HCG to keep it all working? Anyway I have faith and hope this works. Something has to. Not sure if it is supposed to hit me today since it is in my blood or if it takes some time. I am wondering though why almost everyone here is on the cream or shots and very few on the patch? Guest guest
Bstee, Way to much HCG Dr. says men should not take more then 500 IU's per day. Most only do on gels 250 IU's every 3 days and on shot once a week they do 250 IU's the 2 days each before there next T shot. I feel what happened to you is the HCG converted into Estradiol and this makes us hold water. If your going to an Endo and live in the USA forget about it they are not good Dr.'s for this problem. If your GP will work with Dr. over the phone to test and treat you he dose this. Go to www.allthingsmale.com and if your GP will do this he or she will learn how to test and treat men for this on your dime. When you go to his site read TRT: A Recipe for Success and His HCG update. He is one of the top hormone Dr.'s in the world. What was the range on your TST and what is TST. It's not hard to get leveled if your talking about low Testosterone all you need to do is get your Total T levels up into the upper 1/3 of your labs range and to keep your Estradiol down to about 20 pg/ml. If your Thyroid and Adrenals are good you should do well on this with them levels. Guest guest
Thanks. I do think it was all too much HCG. My total TST first tested at 44 and later retested at 120 (240-950). I have now been on the patches for about 5 days and while it is hard to tell because I am in the throws of a serious allergy attck due to something I do think it is working. My feet have not swelled and I can make it through the day. In fact I woke up before the alarm for the first time in maybe a year. I think we just might have something here. I'll post in a few days. > > > > > > > > > > > From: Bstee <bstee@> > > > > > > Subject: HCG and weight > > gain??? > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Friday, August 13, 2010, 2:29 AM > > > > > > Now I am really confused. I > > > > > > came here a few months ago when I had a > > blood test showing > > > > > > an incredibly low total Testosterone > > level of (44) I am 43 > > > > > > YO now was 42 at the time. > > > > > > > > > > > > I went for a follow=up and got a lot of > > things tested and > > > > > > the low T was verified but not as bad > > this time. Guest guest
I don't know why a Dr. would tell a man not trying to make a baby to take this much HCG it will desenatize your Testis to LH and HCG and make you Primary. Stop taking it for a few weeks when you feel better and if all your doing is HCG try 100 IU's everyday. Guest guest
The baby thing is part of the problem. We do want kids and it is getting late in the game for us. The thing is the HCG was not because of those types of issues. I was fine as far as baby making goes (oddly had a great sperm count and am sure I will destroy that now). This doc that gave the the huge HCG (a six month supply so not a single dose) gave it to me to raise the TST and not become primary. But my LH was undetectible in one test and 1.2 in another (really low), so why with everything else wrong I could still make a baby we'll never know. Didnlt know the huge HCG dose was hurting the LH as well. Looks like we'll adopt as I just can't function as I have been. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > From: Bstee <bstee@> > > > > > > > > Subject: HCG > > and weight > > > > gain??? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Friday, August 13, > > 2010, 2:29 AM > > > > > > > > Now I am really confused. > > I > > > > > > > > came here a few months ago > > when I had a > > > > blood test showing > > > > > > > > an incredibly low total > > Testosterone > > > > level of (44) I am 43 > > > > > > > > YO now was 42 at the time. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I went for a follow=up and > > got a lot of > > > > things tested and > > > > > > > > the low T was verified but > > not as bad > > > > this time. Guest guest
When your on HCG it acts and looks to the brain like it's LH so your levels on HCG LH will be very low. Guest guest
That's good to know (Being on HCG will cause low LH readings). The interesting thing is my test (undetectible and later 1.2) were both in the months before I started any treatment. I was not on TST or HCG yet. I tell you I have the most messed up crazy system. I have low LH, Low TST, Low Free TST, Low FSH, Low GF1, low TSH (all untreated) and the fertility doc advised my sperm count was 121M which was like three times normal. How in the world is that possible? So they then put me on the huge levels of HCG I got huge legs and feet and and am now switched to TST patches and will become primary but at least I feel better so far...I tell you I am one crazy mixed up dude. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > From: Bstee > > <bstee@> > > > > > > > > > > Subject: > > HCG > > > > and weight > > > > > > gain??? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Friday, > > August 13, > > > > 2010, 2:29 AM > > > > > > > > > > Now I am really > > confused. > > > > I > > > > > > > > > > came here a few > > months ago > > > > when I had a > > > > > > blood test showing > > > > > > > > > > an incredibly low > > total > > > > Testosterone > > > > > > level of (44) I am 43 > > > > > > > > > > YO now was 42 at > > the time. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I went for a > > follow=up and > > > > got a lot of > > > > > > things tested and > > > > > > > > > > the low T was > > verified but > > > > not as bad > > > > > > this time. Guest guest
No your not messed up your Secondary like myself your Pituitary is not telling your Testis to make Testosterone by sending enough LH to them. My Pituitary is bad from a head injury but yours can be from a tumor so you need to have an MRI on it to rule this out. It's called Hypopituitary.
