Guest guest
Vicky, I don't want to confuse you but Florinef is used in the treatment of 's. Do you have ian symptoms? I don't know but I would check once more if it is applicaple in our case. Also taking DHEA while having high DHEA in the body..What did your doctor say about the diagnosis of your adrenal problems? Do you have adrenal insufficiency or adrenal exhaustion? Take care. Nil Re: low blood pressure | Hi Radha | | The drug Florinef (Fludrocortisone Acetate) can be used for raising low | blood pressure. I have just been prescribed it by my doctor today - so | haven't started it yet. | | As far as I know it's a corticosteroid and it raises BP by increasing | sodium retention. It's also used to treat neurally mediated hypotention. | | Obviously if you can find a more " natural " way to improve your BP that | would be preferable (this is a steroid after all!) but it sounds as | though you've tried the natural route and need some serious help to | improve such low levels! | | Hope this may help. | | Vicky | | | | In message <99.2ddb6f52.2ad74083@...>, radha21@... writes | >do any of you of anything that will raise blood pressure, mine is around | >60/40, i'm bedridden, have tried midodrine, homemade gookinaide and tons of | >salt.....nothing helps, i'm so miserable, and Baschetti licorice, please | >help!!!!!!! | >Radha | | | | This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Dear Radha, I agree with other list members that your blood pressure is extremely low, and you need a physician's advice. My blood pressure was consistantly pretty low - 90/58 or so. Also, my adrenal function was very low. My physician strongly recommended adrenal support. I now take Neutracology desicated adrenal cortex and Chinese herbs to support my adrenals. I can get out of bed and my bp is pretty normal. Guest guest
Not as long as I change my patch every week (the catapres drug is a patch.) If I forget, I start to get dizzy especially when I stand up. But usually now my bp is 100-115 (the top number) which is a huge improvement for me. I have been taking this drug for the past 3 years and other than gaining a few pounds have no side effects that I can determine. Originally I saw an article about this in a CFS newsletter, so I tried it. But it doesn't seem like many people use it. Somehow it just didn't catch on. But recently there was a post from someone in Australia trying a drug that seems similar (lowers high bp, raises low bp) so maybe that drug will catch on. I really don't know why this one didn't, since millions of people take it for high blood pressure so the side effects can't be that bad for most people. I will also mention that my OI / bp improved also when I started taking heparin for my thick blood. I didn't need as much catapres. So I think sometimes our OI is caused or made worse by hypercoagulation. Thanks, Doris Ynt: low blood pressure > Doris! > > Doesn't it drop when you stand up for some time? > Thanks. > Nil
Guest guest
http://www.drjgoldstein.com/ One thing I remember from my Dr Goldstain visits 4 years ago was that he would tinker around with a CFS patient's blood pressure using various medications. Maybe if you emailed him from the website he could offer some advice for you or your doctor for medications to try to get your blood pressure up. Guest guest
I had a lot of problems with low blood pressure, and used a combination of adrenal glandulars and licorice root extract in a somewhat complicated rotational schedule for a couple years, and now my blood pressure is more normal, but I still have occasional days when it drops real low, and now I also have some days when it goes too high. I no longer take the adrenal glandulars and licorice root extract, and stopped when I started having high blood pressure problems. Ironically, having more normal blood pressure hasn't done a thing to alleviate any of the rest of my symptoms, other than that I no longer have problems passing out. lindaj@... Guest guest
Thanks for your experiences and letting me know how you used adrenal glandulars to raise your blood pressure. I intend to take some daily readings (when I get a blood pressure kit) I will probably take pulse rate and hopefully suger level readings (using diabetic urine stick kit) This will hopefully give me a better idea of what is happening. Thanks again A Low blood pressure > > > > Hi All, > > > > Low blood pressure is pretty common amongst patients. Is that low enough for you? LOL!!! Mine varies a lot. When I get to 110/60, I celebrate! Seriously, I don't do well on steroids due to a hiatal hernia. Dr. Klimas had me increase my salt intake. It really works, but can lead to osteoporosis ... and *yes* men can get it! I feel so much better when I eat extra salt. My normal diet is all cooked from scratch, so I don't get a lot of salt like many people do that eat pre-prepared foods. Even if my blood pressure stays low, the salt relieves the dizziness and faint feelings I get. I'm much better able to go out and about. YMMV. Teewinot @>--}-- * --{--<@ Teewinot13@... Guest guest
84/44 here yesterday. But, I don't feel " bad " most of the time. Cheney said I was getting normal tissue oxygenation, despite every indication that I should not be. And I am THE most genetically mutated (for the worse) individual he has seen. Yet, I am better off than many, even after 20 years. This disease is more complex than meets the eye. Zippy

Guest guest
No Doris, I truely don't feel " bad " most of the time, and I can get out and prove it to you, as some of my friends here know. But, too I do mean " bad " in a relative way. I know some PWC's who are basically bed bound I am far from that. And I have seen many days in my history where I was in a tremedous amount of pain, or so weak I could barely shuffle. To me, that is feeling " bad " . So, maybe you are right. On the other hand, I can be fairly functional for brief periods (1/2 a day?). With my blood pressure so low, and my genetics and all, this would seem to be impossible. Cheney says I am having some unidentified compensatory mechanisms working for me. To quote him, " I am very lucky " Again my point, there is a lot here yet to learn. Guest guest
I just came from the chiropractor this morning and my blood pressure was 90/60. This is low considering I use to have high blood pressure. I have had alot of stress the past 2 months and that is when I noticed that my blood pressure started going down. I was instructed to see my doctor so that they can keep a running check on it. I am 2 1/2 years post op and have lost almost 150 lbs. So, I know that that has some play in all of this. It seems that I heard of some other post-ops that had low blood pressure. >From: Jimmy Teague <jimjoyjen@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Low blood pressure >Date: Thu, 08 Jul 2004 11:46:14 -0400 > >Hi Jenna and Joanie, >I saw your problem about dizziness and Joanie's suggestion that it may be >orthostatic hypotension. Guest guest
As I understand it, you need to be careful with low BP just as you would with high BP. I am not a doctor, I'm a PharmD student that is getting a lot of clinical training. Treatment of low blood pressure might include drug therapy, lifestyle changes, and so on, just like it would if you had high BP. What did your doc say when the diagnosis of orthostatic hypotension was made? There are medicines that can cause this (not the MGB stuff we all take) -- are you on other meds right now? I think that you should make sure that you get good medical care for this. 60/40 is a VERY low reading, and should be taken seriously. In the meantime, make sure you are getting in your electrolytes (VERY important for someone with your condition) and eating/drinking regularly. Beyond that, I think it's up to your doc. GOOD LUCK! Joanie PS What drug were you put on for the hypotension? (I know that is a nosey question, but I'd appreciate knowing if you don't mind sharing...) >From: Jimmy Teague <jimjoyjen@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Low blood pressure >Date: Thu, 08 Jul 2004 11:46:14 -0400 > >Hi Jenna and Joanie, >I saw your problem about dizziness and Joanie's suggestion that it may be >orthostatic hypotension. Guest guest
Hi Joanie My doctor said my low blood pressure is probably is a result of the rapid weight loss, 90 lbs in 8 months. But I don't remember seeing this condition discussed on this group before. He gave me Fludrocortisone ACE, whatever that is, and told me to continue eating a lot of salt. He took blood tests. I have taken all my other meds for a long time, except for the Actigall, and I haven't had any problem with that in these 8 months. The diagnosis was 1 week ago. I was eating and drinking well until I started having the popping in my ear, then I gradually got VERY nauseated at the sight, smell, or taste of any food. I am feeling much better and having less dizziness, but the nausea persists. I do drink my Gatorade daily. I have an appointment to go back to the doctor on Monday, so I'll get a better idea of my condition then. Thanks for the feedback. Guest guest
I assume you know to use good sea salt, such as Celtic Sea Salt from the Grain & Salt Society, (http://www.celtic-seasalt.com/ or available in health food stores), in order to get all the minerals that have been removed from refined salt. As far as salt's effect on blood pressure, I'm not really up on that. W. I have low blood pressure and my doctor told me to increase my salt and drink lots of water. Guest guest
I eat lots of whole grains such as couscous, Deboles Pasta, and lots of garden salads with good fats such as extra virgin olive oil (first cold pressing), raw almonds, and lots of good fruits such as pink grapefruits and table grapes. I find grape especially helpful for increasing my energy level as well as elevating my blood pressure level. Also I used to take 2 or 3 capsules of the herb Ginko biloba (walmarts has it ) a few times a day. Sometimes less, because it worked too effectively in elevating my blood pressure, But alot of mental acuity problems can be helped by simply elevating blood pressure to the brain and increasing our intake of healthy fats such as from fish, nuts, olive, corn, flaxseed, evening primrose, etc. This is all , of course, in addition to my three glasses of k-tea per day. Hope you find this helpful, johnd L.Win wrote: > > Is there any info. on what to do if one already has low blood > > pressure? > - > How low is too low to you? > To raise it I would think the opposite protocol of lowering would work. > More salt etc. > > rusty > Low blood pressure > > > > > > > > Hello all, > > > > Is there any info. on what to do if one already has low blood > > pressure? Guest guest
>As far as salt's effect on blood pressure, I'm not really up on that. - The kidney secretes a hormone called renin that synergizes with sodium and increases the tension of the blood vessels. If one has High BP then one does not want excess sodium. If one has low blood pressure a *little bit* of Sodium chloride [table salt] will possibly raise it but it's the renin production which has the most influnce on BP and Excess salt won't bring up low BP very much although it might offset any lowering effects of KT. *** Salt is a preservative. Guest guest
Some general comments on adding herbs to KT Herbs like the following may be brewed along with black or green tea to tweak KT more to one's preferences. Hawthorne (Shan Zha) (50%) oxygenates the heart muscle, regulates blood pressure Cayenne (20%) stimulates and strengthens the circulatory and cardiomusculary system Shepherds Purse (30%) regulates blood pressure or they may be taken simply as a tea. however only Hawthorne has a pleasing taste. or they may be made as full strength and added to the already brewed KT. Diuretics (causes urination, like coffee and lesser so tea) have a tendency to reduce blood pressure due to the loss of water from the blood vessels. Salt also affects the water % causing more retention. As does the potassium/calcium exchange affect the total volume of the blood vessels. Most health guidelines are more focused on less salt and to lower blood pressure which our society is overly aggressive. As they arise from different sources [irregular blood pressure] Traditional Chinese Medicine makes several distinctions (differential diagnosis) as well as modifications to the numerous herbal formulas designed to balance health. With kombucha I recommend drinking the minimum of 1/2 of your body weight in fluid ounces of pure (distilled better) water daily. So if you weigh 100 pounds drink 50 oz of water. Drink 1/2 of that amount before 10 am. Drink an additional 16 fl oz of water for every cup of coffee or carbonated drink.
