Guest guest
Hi Donna: I had read about AHA while doing some research on JRA. It scared the heck out of me. Now to read this, how scary for you and quite a shock. I am glad to read that you have recovered from that. I will certainly encourage Caitlin to listen to her body. Thank you. Geez, neither of my doctors (my gp nor my endo) told me the anemia could be from my thyroid. I've never been anemic before, and I don't think I terrible anemic now. My blood count is 11. It's usually 13 or 14. My gp told me to take iron. No one told me until yesterday that my trembling could also be thyroid related. I'm going to have to write all this stuff down so I can ask questions next visit. I had blood work done yesterday. My endo has already decreased my Synthroid from 150 to 137. I felt pretty good for a while, but I've really felt lousy now for a couple of weeks. Of course a lot of it is stress. My mom is in a nursing home. Alzheimer's. I'm under tremendous stress. Don't guess that helps at all. And, I take Cortef for adrenalin insufficiency. Don't guess that helps either. Guest guest
Regarding the anemia I also highly recommend getting Hunter an appointment with a hematologist asap. With some of the biolgics there is a risk of blood disorders. I was dx'd with Autoimmune hemolytic anemia and my hemoglobin dropped to a dangerous 6.0 and I was in serious condition. We never found the cause but through faith, hope, prayer and great medical treatment I recovered and tho my hematologist still requires I came in regularly I am in remission. Please keep us posted! Learn to test through the icollege, or it will seem quite overwhelming. Love Going through loads of it... Just a bit overwhelmed by the amount of material.. Guia K. Monti wrote: > Do more homework. Guest guest
My daughter has a blood disorder that causes her crit level to drop when she's sick sometimes. She usually receives blood transfusions when her crit drops below 7 and depending on how she is feeling they will even give it below 8. Just depends on her. Unfortunately whenever she also has a " fever episode " her crit level drops so for awhile she was getting transfusions with every fever. The two conditions are totally unrelated and my daughter, like your son is just amazing enough to have 2 serious problems at the same time. Believe it or not, it gets easier with time. I find myself not dreading the blood transfusions and start looking forward to it for her because I know it will make her feel so much better. It's scary at first but as we all know on here, we are just dealing with what life it bringing us. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, Thanks for writing. It is crazy to want to see his labs to see how his levels. You are right. We are not that as bad as we use to be. His levels drop during a fever also. I have had about 100 different reason why but no fixes yet. We have tried the vitamins but no difference. His ferritin levels are fine. We can always tell just by looking at him where he is at. Hopefully something they will address when we go to NIH in December. I was thinking about you with Hurricane Rita. I hope you guys did okay. I live 1 1/2 hours away South of Houston, 30 minutes from . Tammy, Mother of Clay 3 > > > My son is chronically anemic. Guest guest
Let me know what you find out at NIH. We took Maddie to NIH in March of this year but we didn't really discuss her drop in hemoglobin when she has fevers. I guess because I didn't bring it up because she has the seperate blood disorder. Although I wish I would have. It would be interesting to know why that happens if she's not really sick and it's just another " fever episode " . Maddie had to have her spleen removed and since then she no longer requires the blood transfusions. We did okay with Rita. Missed us. We were very fortunate. Sounds like you guys were pretty close to it too. Tracey Mom to Maddie, age 6 Brent, age 10 League City, TX On Monday, October 10, 2005, at 10:24 PM, rlw_124 wrote: > Hi Tracey, Thanks for writing. Guest guest
I have heard of people getting iron infusions- but my doctor is talking about a blood transfusion because my red blood cells are too small and too few. He said I needed the normal red blood cells. I am taking my iron twice a day and he did more blood work to see if there are any other defiencies- he has been very good. He said they do a transfusion when you hit 7- I am surprised you were at 6 and didn't get a transfusion- was it just low iron? Guest guest
Hi Dr. Rutledge. I'm wondering - have you had the chance to speak with my hemotologist, Dr. Pemberton yet about the additional iron infusions you recommended? I want to follow up on this, so I'm checking. I sent you and email with all of the contact information a few days after the LV picnic. Thanks in advance! Guest guest
Hi , I don't know if this helps, but I am a patient of Dr. R, 9/2000, and doing great ! I too was just recently anemic, my count was down to 8, but my doctor put me on liquid iron, 1700mg a day... and in less than two months I'm back up to 12, im still on it, to build up my reserves and get my red blood cells fattened up... you might want to talk to your Dr. about that. I would try everything else before a blood transfusion...that seems a bit drastic to me. ~Dance like no one is watching~

Guest guest
Hi, My doctor decided to refer me to a hemotologist and he is setting up an iron infusion. I will let you know how it goes. Has anyone had an adverse effects from the iron infusion? I just can't wait to feel better- right now I don't feel like I can even go back to work until something is done, the fatigue and dizziness and breathlessness are really hard to take. Plus I get shakey and I have been running a low grade fever for about a month- don't know if it is all related but it is really taking a toll on me. Any input is appreciated.
