Guest guest
He might not be looking for a tumor in your Pituitary Gland. When they did my MRI it was down for the Pituitary with an without contrast. You said you have a dam good health care plain so go with it. And see if there is something other then your pituitary giving you them problems with your eyes and headaches. Then if nothing shows up and your labs for LH and FSH are low with low Testosterone and good Estradiol get an MRI on your pit. Guest guest
,......I am confused. Are you saying you first had a CAT scan, or an MRI as you spelled out? I know that I would prefer the MRI simply due to no radiation per se. I also know for a fact that he is looking for a pituitary growth, or so he told me. I assume you are saying to go forward with the CAT scan, and worry about an MRI later? Either way I have to pay my deductible which will be done very quickly it seems for this year. I just would prefer to have the correct test done the first time, and avoid the radiation if possible. I am going to try and stop by his office tomorrow to straighten all of this out, and I guess I will go with his recommendations. Yes,.....I know I am a PIA. I have never had to have all of these type tests done before. > > > From: marc200134470 <cfs38@...> > > Subject: Re: Advice needed from new member > > > > Date: Monday, May 3, 2010, 4:02 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > I know I am most likely getting annoying with the questions > > at this point,....I'm sorry. > > > > I just got back in, and the testing facility had left a > > message about setting up my head scan. > > > > I could have sworn that he said an MRI, but they are saying > > I am scheduled for a CAT scan with/without contrast. > > I can't get in touch with my doc right now as he is out for > > the rest of the day. > > > > I did a quick search, and what I seem to find is that an > > MRI is better at detecting a pituitary tumor which is what > > he is largely searching for. > > Curious if any of you have had either done, and what your > > feelings are on this. > > > > Contrary to what you may be thinking at this point,.....I > > am not panicking over this. Guest guest
In that case call him if he told you he was looking for something wrong with your Pituitary then it's an MRI that is needed. I just remember you saying something about headaches and Eye problems. But then this can be from a tumor on the Pituitary but it's not the norm. Guest guest
,......thanks much. I know you are not a doctor, but you seem to know a lot about this thing. My doc specifically said that with my headaches, vision issues, combined with my drastically low T levels, that he wanted to check for a pituitary tumor. I am almost certain he mentioned an MRI as well. In this day and age you must be the biggest watcher of your own health IMHO. So many screw-ups take place. Many years ago I was a paramedic, and my step-father that passed away in 2003 was a retired physician. Both have taught me to be my own guardian concerning my health. Guest guest
I haven't read all the posts in this thread - there's a bunch of them! - but I wanted to reassure you that the MRI is standard fare before starting a hormone replacement program. My doctor had an MRI on my pituitary as well. Evidently, in some small cases a change in hormones can be caused by a problem with the pituitary gland. This is seldom the case, however. Once you get started on HRT, you'll likely have much more energy, get rid of the " brain fog " that many men experience, and your lidido should go up. Your gynecomastia (fat under the chest) will likely stop as well. You'll feel like your old self. Hopefully your doctor will prescribe Arimidex or something else to stop the conversion of Testosterone to Estrogen. If not, make sure to read the posts here that talk about DIM and other natural means to suppress the conversion. This is an exciting time for you! You're finally getting answers and getting treated for your problems! Congratulatations! Jim > > ,......thanks much.
