Vitamin A can be toxic. It is recommended that you take it in the form of

Beta carotene conversion to Vit A is reduced if you're hypothyroid. Many here

are undiagnosed hypothyroid.

I'd have to disagree about only choosing beta carotene. Vitamin A is toxic

in high doses, but who says we must take megadoses of it? Also, vitamin D

deficiency may account for bone issues when ones significantly up vitamin A

intake. All these nutrients work together but also have to be balanced as

too much of one may worsen another's deficiency. I know getting my vitamin D

up from below lab range caused me to get progresively worse calcification

issues till I started taking vitamin K2. Obviously I worsened a vitamin K

deficiency with D.

Regarding beta carotene, I've read that only a fraction of the amount that

is assumed to convert to actual vitamin A does convert. I don't think this

just happens in hypothyroid people either, but that's just my opinion. So

following the vitamin A " daily value " of foods containing beta carotene or

with supplements could be very misleading compared to getting actual vitamin

A from foods like butter. /HAN posted some weeks ago how trusting in a

beta carotene-heavy multi vitamin allowed him to go vitamin A deficient.

Then I would recommend taking care of that before taking too much vitamin A.

You can take as much Beta-Carotene as you want - so if your conversion is only

10% of what non-hypothyroid people convert, take 10X as much beta-carotene.

But your point is good - everyone should have their T3 and T4 checked regularly.

There must be a reason why Hertoghe told me to take no less than 100.000 iu

Vitamin A daily. He also said beta carotene is bad for me.

unconverted beta carotene!

How could you tell you got worse calcidication? Is there a test for it?

I stopped taking NOW Vitamin K2 from alfafa last summer because I felt it could

make my blood thicker, which is bad when I am on TRT and at a point saw my HCT

as high as 60.

I now have Jarrow's MK-7 and wonder if I should start taking it.

You can't measure K2 in the blood anyway so how do we know we have enough?

Vitamin K in serum is K1! And mine is at 25% of the range. It was like that

before I started taking D3 as well. I take 3000 iu D3.

Hertoghe said nothing about Vitamin K. He also said I can adjust my supplements

on my own.

Umm, you want me to take 10X the normal amount of beta carotene? Then I'd

probably get carotenemia and turn yellow lol!

The point to be made here is that too much or too little of anything can be

toxic. Just like more and more testosterone doesn't make you more of a man (but

actually turns into more estradiol), excessive beta carotene is not good either.

My serum calcium was going higher in the range than the middle (where it had

been before taking vitamin D). I also had stiff muscles and felt the need to

practically take the whole magnesium supplement bottle. By the way, I ruled

out hyperparathyroid as PTH was about the bottom of the range.

I had weird symptoms stopping vitamin D, and besides my level would then

fall, so that didn't seem like the actual problem. I added K2 menatetrenone

(MK4) and kept the vitamin D in and then everything resolved.

Vitamin K2 isn't said to cause overcoagulation. Here's where I read that:

So you recon I can start 90 mcg MK-7 daily without getting any bad sides?

My serum calcium is anywhere from low range 2.15 to high range 2.51. Maybe it

will stay more stable with a stable K2 intake?

Calcium 2.45 2.15-2.5

D3 13.62 <100

after, D3

iodinez calcium 1,29 1.05-1.3

Calcium 2.37 2,10-2,55

D3 51,52 <100

normal calcium in the middle, but iodinez(free) in the top.

Nigel,

Why do they state on all Vitamin K2 brands that one must talk to a doctor before

starting it, especially if one is taking warfarin and other blood thinning meds?

Doesnt that prove Vit K thickens blood?

Well I don't know about needing Vit. A & K I do take a lot of Vit. D3 10,000

IU's to 12,000 per day.

I eat a lot of greens slaids and such and take this Multi. Vit.

You take a lot of stuff Phil! And yes, it adds up. I spend insane amounts every

month too. Ouch!

But back to Vitamin K - It seems to me like it is a Must to take K2 along with

D3, Magnesium, E and also A. To get balance!

You may have explained something for me Nigel.

I took 10,000 IU of D3 for a month, and have been taking 5,000 IU daily since

then.

At first I thought it was making me feel a little better, but now it seems like

my bones hurt worse than before.

I keep taking it, as my level at test time was a paltry 19 which is deficient.

I guess they're protecting themselves because you might have to adjust

warfarin dose if you start supplementing with vitamin K. Same goes for

significantly adjusting vitamin K intake through diet, from what I read.

The point was that vitamin K in higher intakes shouldn't lead to

*over*coagulation, according to that article. I understood that to mean it's

not going to encourage excessive clotting.

Last D3 level was really really high as I was apparently taking too much. I

lowered my dose to 10,000 IU D3 and I also take 5 mg menatetrenone vitamin

K2 daily. I was taking cod liver oil, but haven't been recently. Should

probably add some in here and there. I do feel that taking zinc has allowed

me to use my vitamin A better (it helps its transport).

If you eat enough Veg's you don't need K Vit.s on TRT I would not touch them

with the problems we have with thicker blood.

Well I take more Vit. D then anyone I know and I don't need Vit. A or K but I

get it in my Multi. Vit.

second or tertiary hyperparathyroidism may due to low adrenals, low vitamin D

levels, low tesotsterone, low thyroid.

Hard,

If I take 90 mcg MK-7 daily... How can I test this in serum? The standard Vit K

serum is K1! How does that work? I wanna get tid of any potential calcification!

I Get maybe 1000-1500 mg Calcium daily in my diet and in my compounded hormone

capsules. Wanna make sure calcium goes to the right places.

Right but if one has gut problems even supplements will not help. My blood is

up there for being to thick I can't see taking Vit. K.
